1 Week of Accutane

Hi all

So my first appointment was actually just an examination of my skin and the derm gave me a form to get some blood tests done at my local GP. I had a follow up appointment 2 weeks later (7 days ago) and was prescribed 1 month worth of 35mg per day of Accutane.

I have definitely noticed the slight effects. My lips are the main part. I did already have quite bad lips which would peel a lot and this has just become daily. My lips are not cracked or sore at all they just almost shed their skin and I peel it off and then they're smooth again. I do have to apply lip balm constantly though as they feel tight and dry if I don't. The winter weather definitely doesn't help.

The skin on my cheeks and chin also is a tiny tiny bit flaky. It's nothing bad and it's only where a spot used to be and it's healed and the dead skin sort of flakes off much quicker now.

I have noticed that my eyes are dry so I have to blink a lot but if I forget to blink for a while it stings when I do close them. I am going to have to buy some eye drops.

I would normally get about 4-6 small pimples/break outs a week and this week I've had about the same.

So overall nothing horrendous to report. Face still is oily.

Products used:-
On my first day of Accutane I went shopping to be super prepared.
I spent £110 on Decleor skincare:-

- Hydra-Radiance Smoothing & Cleansing Mousse - tube of 100ml
This is used as a face wash and it is the best face wash I've ever had. You can feel how clean your skin is and you only need a tiny tiny amount.

- Phytopeel Exfoliating Cream - tube of 50ml
I got this because my skin is sensitive and it's going to be even more so after a couple of weeks/months of Accutane. Normal exfoliators have little beads in them which will irritate the skin and won't be ideal for flaky and dry patches. This exfoliator dries on your skin like a mask and then you sort of roll it off with your fingers.

- Aroma Cleanse - Fresh Purifying Gel - bottle of 200ml
I have recently realised that it is so essential to use toner after cleanser. Cleanser opens up your pores and cleans and toner then closes your pores and soothes your skin. I feel like for my age I have quite visible pores and since using this I have definitely noticed a difference. I am not getting black/white heads at the top of my cheeks/under my eyes anymore.

- Aromessence Neroli Oil Serum - bottle of 5ml
I got this as a free gift but I've been dabbing it around any particularly dry areas and it seems to soak in and hydrate the area very well. Wouldn't say it's a compulsory buy.

- Hydra Floral 24hr Hydrating Rich Cream - jar of 50ml
This is amazing. It smells gorgeous and goes really far. It intensely moisturises your skin but it's not really greasy and it doesn't clog pores. I use it in the mornings after cleansing and toning. It sits well under make up primer too.

-Aromessence Neroli Night Balm - Jar of 15ml
I am not sure about whether this is a miracle or not. It is a very thick balm that you have to warm between your palms before applying. I have found that it can make my sensitive areas quite red when applying (my neck).. but I feel like without it I would have a lot more flaky areas on my cheeks.

I have attached 2 pictures of my face as it is now, 1 week into Accutane.

Sorry for the rambling. Let me know if you have any questions!

I have my first appointment to be prescribed...

I have my first appointment to be prescribed accuntane on Monday. I am excited to get it over and done with and start the course.

I am 20 years old and suffer with moderate acne. I do not have big cystic spots, I have loads of pimples and white heads dotted around my whole face. The colouring is easy to hide with makeup however my face is never ever smooth to run my fingers over and in bright lighting the texture of my skin looks awful.

I started getting spots at age 14 and they've just got worse since. I am now in my twenties, I've tried every lotion and potion under the sun and I've had enough.

I've read just about every Accutane blog/post/review out there and so it's only fair that I blog my own experience. I will post a couple times during my first month on Accutane and then about once a month.

Do comment with any questions and I will be happy to answer as best I can!!
