After having 2 caesarians (we don't always get the peaceful water birth we were dreaming of!) I was left with a horrible bulge of skin/fat/scar tissue which wouldn't budge, even though I've had a personal trainer for 2 years and have managed to tone and change the rest of my body pretty well. Before the op I was 13st12lb and although that sounds a lot, I carry my weight fairly evenly and I know I've become strong and toned, so some of the weight is muscle. In an ideal world I would like to weigh less, but I wasn't seeing a tummy tuck as a weight-loss option, I just wanted the shape of my tummy to change because clothes weren't comfortable and although my husband is wonderful and affectionate, it still affected my self-confidence when we were having sex and in life in general. So, I went along to a free 10 min consultation at The Spire in Harpenden at one of their open-evenings and had chosen to see Mr Sojitra (based on his glowing profile) and I immediately liked him. He's a man of few words in that old-fashioned quietly-confident and reassuring way, although he was also very happy to answer questions. I just knew he was down-to-earth and straight-forward which is what I like, because I am prone to panic and worry!
I booked a full consultation soon after the brief one and again Mr Sojitra quickly settled my nerves with his confident demeanour and he didn't once try to up-sell me any other procedures, but just had a look at my tummy and said he could achieve what I wanted, which is basically all you need to hear! Also at the consultation was his specialist nurse Teresa Jelis who was also very lovely and reassuring.
After the consultation I booked the operation with Mr Sojitra's secretary (also very nice and friendly!) and waited with building excitement and nerves for the day to come! The Spire Harpenden was a very pleasant place to be and the nurses were all excellent and extremely kind and patient with my constant worried questions, even though had absolutely nothing to be worried about! Mr Sojitra and Teresa Jelis and the anaesthetist Dev Acharya (also very kind!) came to see me the day after the procedure and again reassured me that everything went well and to plan. Mr Sojitra also let me know that they had removed 3.5lbs of fat/skin/scar tissue from my tummy.
I wasn't in any pain after the operation, although I obviously felt tender and really it just felt sore like a bruise. The scar itself never bothered me once although after a few weeks it was sometimes a bit itchy. I found that putting the binder over a soft vest helped reduced the itching. The only discomfort I felt was when I stood up for too long during the first week or two and my back would ache because I wasn't totally upright. I was very glad I had built up strong core/back muscles because as soon as I would sit down, my back would stop aching, so it wasn't an ongoing problem. I was upright fairly quickly so the back discomfort was soon over. I have been rubbing bio-oil on my scars every day and they are healing really well.
Now that I am 6.5 weeks post-op, I feel almost completely normal and have returned (slowly) to exercise with my personal trainer this week. I had a wonderful time shopping last weekend because all the trousers I tried on looked so brilliant with my newly flatter tummy. I am so happy I found the courage to have a tummy tuck and I wouldn't have wanted any other surgeon than Mr Sojitra to do it, because I am so pleased with the results. I will post some photos soon. The cost of the procedure in sterling which included paying Mr Sojitra, the anaesthetist and the hospital stay was £5763, amount above is USD.

Mr Sojitra's profile and experience speaks for itself, but he backs this up with a calm and confident demeanour and is very reassuring. I am prone to worry, but he's one of those people that makes it impossible to feel anxious because he's politely direct and doesn't complicate things with too much talking. He even graciously responded to my tweets when I had questions. I am so grateful to him for the results of my tummy tuck, I really felt like hugging him at my follow-up appointment (but managed to contain myself so as not to cause embarrassment! LOL)
