I’ve had quite a few consultations with various surgeons, with a view to sorting out the problems I have in the eye, brow and temple areas of my face. I had previous botched surgeries that had resulted in paresis of my right brow area causing excessive eyelid hooding. Previous brow lift surgery has resulted in the hollowing of my temples. I also had ptosis of my left eyelid, giving me a droopy eyed “drunken” look, especially when tired.

When I first met with Mrs Shah-Desai, I was impressed with her knowledge and honesty about what she could and could not do to improve my looks. She has a natural, friendly and very polite way of dealing with prospective patients. She is undoubtedly a lovely person, unlike a lot of other “arrogant” surgeons with whom I have had consultations.

She, and her team, are superbly efficient. From consultation to surgery and recovery, it all worked like a well-oiled machine. They even suggested hiring a car to transport me home from London to Bristol, after surgery. The price was not prohibitive, and a lot cheap cheaper than the cost of the average London hotel room.

There was not a lot she could do about the badly placed and obvious scars from a previous lower bleph job, done by a bad surgeon. But, after testing my left eye with Phenylephrine drops, she noted an improvement of my eyelid ptosis, and concluded that she could shorten the levitator muscle from the inside of my eyelid, hence, there would be no external scarring. She also suggested a bilateral upper lid blepharoplasty to improve my eyelid hooding. She did suggest fillers for my hollow temples, though I declined this offer, at the time. She also recommended a good aesthetic facial surgeon who might help with my global facial problems, caused by previous bad surgery. I may contact them in the future.

I decided to accept her offer of left eyelid ptosis repair and bilateral upper lid blepharoplasty. The fee was £3000 ($3923). Surgery was arranged about six weeks later. It was to take place at 1300 in a private hospital in Harley St. I elected for local anaesthetic with no sedation. I would be free to travel home from 1600. I would get the train there and taxi back.

The surgery itself was carried out so professionally. I was fully awake throughout, chatting to both Sabrina and her Scrub Nurse (Who was fab too) and I felt no pain whatsoever, just a little tugging here and there – and the smell of pork scratchings from the diathermy. The surgery took about 40 Minutes, to the sound track of The Bee Gees - there is now a whole new memory attached to that music (Not an unpleasant one either).

Mrs Shah-Desai is a fine surgeon, her workmanship is top notch. The finest scar free stitching I have seen. I was bandaged after surgery but could just about see – it was like looking out through a letter box. The journey home took about 2.5hrs and was uneventful. At home I slept upright in an armchair and removed the bandage next day, as instructed. I followed all the post-op instructions given meticulously and Sabrina texted me every few days to see how I was doing. I sent back selfies of my swollen recovering eyes. Permanent sutures were removed 10 days after surgery, I travelled by train wearing sunglasses – film star stylie. I returned to a week later.

I would highly recommend Mrs Sabrina Shah-Disai as first choice for any Ocular surgery you might be considering. She is now my Oculoplastic Surgeon, for life! And she is lovely!!
