It's hard to say what my main motivation for...

It's hard to say what my main motivation for having the procedure was, I am an active guy (when not at work), I love to walk everywhere, I regularly do high intensity interval training but I have never been defined or muscular. I was always the bigger kid, while it seemed all of my friends never seemed to put on weight. I trained at the gym and while they got the more muscular look I just got bigger and stronger but not more defined. Now this is likely to have been diet related mixed in with a hormone imbalance but the results stuck with me all through my teenage years and have always been self-conscious because of it. At my biggest, I was 16.5 stone after my first year of uni and knew I needed a change as I was so unfit and hated how I looked. I took up boxing, stuck to a very strict diet and lost over 3.5 stone in 8 months.
Now while this was partly a success, my drastic weight loss plateaued and I couldn't shift the pockets of fat around my abdomen, chest and flanks.
I'm not a lazy guy, but I want a life. I am a trainee accountant which means I am constantly studying for exams, I have a girlfriend and a big circle of friends. If I wanted to look how I wanted to look I wouldn't have time for anything else. Maybe in that way I'm lazy, but I never saw this as a quick fix like I think a lot of people do. My motivation for having the procedure was that I saw it as a kickstart, in order to skip the usually long and protracted journey of weight loss and be in a position to gain a more muscular look. Once I have recovered I will be going straight back to the gym, as I know I need to earn the look.

Anyway, I decided to go with Dr Mike Comins for the procedure. His track record is extremely good and he is an extremely talented plastic surgeon. The procedure was £6000 plus £800 for the optional IV sedation (happy I chose that) and £85 for the compression garment.
Obviously you have to factor in the cost of antibiotics, extra bandages, MLD sessions which means its probably closer to £7500.
Mike is a lovely guy as is his secretary Vicky who made me feel comfortable at all times, answered all my questions, everything and more importantly he made sure I understood what the procedure was, how it would impact my body and the recovery time.

Now whereas I know choosing the right surgeon is important, I really really cannot stress how important the post-op MLD sessions are and that it really pays to be prepared in terms of having enough plasters, gauze, micro dermal tape etc to change the dressings regularly.
I opted to go to Susan Levine in Highgate UK who is amazing! She is extremely knowledgeable and who has really gone out of her way to aid my recovery (I found her on a website www.mld.org.uk). I am now 4 days post op and feel great, no real pain or discomfort other than the surgically inserted drainage tubes and compression garment being really annoying. The tubes come out after 5-7 days, but you have to wear the garment for 4 weeks...yay.
Also just an fyi, the garment should not be to tight, I have a MaCom garment without the foam and it perfectly fits my body.

Am I happy I've had it done? Difficult to say as I still have swelling and have not really noticed my body shape change but then again I knew this was not a quick fix. It can take 4 weeks for the swelling to go down and up to to 3-6 months to see real improvement.
