Hair transplant turkey

I always felt I had a really high forehead and wanted to have a hairline reduction since I was 13. I finally decided to go for it in July 2020, especially when we were in lockdown and I could hide and work from home.
I went to turkey - I know it’s sometimes slammed but I’d researched for years, spoke to actual patients who were not endorsed and basically asked the clinic a million and one questions. My package included hotel, transfers + treatment so all pressure was taken off, I just needed to pay extra for my flights. I arrived at night time, then the next day was my treatment. For the transfer from hotel to clinic we spoke to a lovely guy who had, had the treatment before and he reassured my the entire way (treatment and follow up were the same times). It was really nice to be able to bug someone before the treatment with more questions as I was SO scared!
On the day I was given forms to sign, a blood sample was taken (They use the good stuff in your blood for plasma treatment at the end of surgery) and I was taken for my consultation. During this I chose the hairline and was given advice by the English speaking doctor who was lovely. The surgery itself was absolutely fine. The injections in the front of my head didn’t hurt really (I had around 10 in the front). The back injections were HORRIFIC at the donor site. I’ve felt pain like it. I was ready to leave there and then. I think it’s something like 12 in the back, I truly can’t even explain the pain of it.
I was really anxious so I was given a sedative IV which made me pretty much fall asleep through the entire surgery. There was an English speaker who came in throughout and checked on me but aside from that most of the technicians/ nurses/ doctors in the room spoke Turkish. I didn’t have a problem with this as I could communicate with the English speaker and all of them were absolutely lovely and friendly despite the language barrier. After my surgery I was taken to the hotel by taxi (all included as was the hotel in the package I bought, made life so much easier). During the night my head bled quite a lot, I was given a towel to put on the pillow. I didn’t really feel much pain but had to sit upright which is actually quite difficult! During the night I also felt swelling and woke up like a potato. The next day I was taken to the clinic to wash my hair and given advice on how to care for my hair (really descriptive and helpful) and what vitamins to take to promote growth.
I’m one of these that hare people staring at me so the airport was really difficult. I felt really anxious and clammy because obviously my head was quite swollen and bloody alongside a big plaster on the donor site and you can’t wear a hat/headbands etc until 10 days after surgery. When I got home I noticed over the next few days a lot of swelling. My boyfriend said I looked like a completely different person with the swelling.
When I was home, I had to wash my hair every day for a month but it took around an hour to wash as you had to first put spray on for x amount of time (can't quite remember how long but think it was about 25 mins) then wash this out and dry it, then you had to shampoo the graphs. As a man I think it would be easy but as a woman with long hair it was a nightmare as you had to be so delicate for the first month too but I got help from my boyfriend esp for the back of my hair. You also had to apply ointment to the back of your hair (donor site). It was really a tedious process but I think I was extra cautious of graphs so I took my time.
My recovery was definitely hard. I really won't lie to you. This has been really hard. Recovery wasn't painful for me at all but mentally it was awful. Having the back of my hair shaved was traumatic, especially having long hair. My hair at the back is slowly growing and I’ve since got extensions in the back to hide the growing hair from the donor site and make my hair it’s normal full self at the back.
I’ve found it really difficult wearing headbands on my forehead as it just looks silly and I don’t want to affect the graphs wearing it too long but again, covid is useful for one thing allowing me to stay in more. I’m now six months post op and my hairs are finally growing!
However please note - around 2 weeks in ALL my hairs fell out until the 3rd month. This is normal but I was told you will think it’s not worked (I definitely thought this despite being told what would happen) and my hairs didn’t start growing for a good two months after. I regretted my transplant so much after but now it’s growing I’m starting to feel better. I just can’t wait until it’s grown enough so I can pin it back / not have to wear hats / ribbons etc. When hairs fall out there’s also bumps/ spots and my hairline went like memory foam it was really bizarre but then hairs started growing back especially at the side, the front is taking a bit longer mins.
PLEASE DO NOT UNDERESTIMATE THE RECOVERY!! It is hard waiting for the donor and new site to grow back. It is a SLOW process!
Sorry for the long post, I’m thinking of making a YouTube video on my treatment to go through each step!
My clinic: Smile Hair Turkey
Booked through Quomedical.
Surgery 4th July 2020 > currently 21st January 2021. I'd say 1/4 growth currently
