Poor density, unnatural hairline, bad scar - avoid

I came to Medispa Jaipur in January 2017 for a hair transplant surgery to move my naturally high hairline forward, I can’t remember the exact date but I think it was around 18/01/2017. I am East Asian female who lives in the UK and wanted to find affordable surgery that was still good quality and came across Dr Suneet Soni who seemed to have good reviews on Google (however looking at it again now I am not sure if all these reviews are real or not).

I had asked for my hairline to be moved around half an inch forward and trusted Dr Soni to draw a new hairline as he is supposed to be the expert, he said I will need around 2200 grafts. The surgery was very painful and I had experienced extreme swelling to forehead and eyes which made me look like an alien. After the surgery was done I remember being very upset and crying as I was worried the hairline had been transplanted too low, I had only wanted the hairline done a little lower so that it wouldn’t be hugely noticeable to my friends and family that my forehead was suddenly smaller. I was reassured by Dr Soni that that it would be natural which gave me hope at the time but he was wrong, it was definitely done too low. He tried to cover a large area with not enough grafts which later led to poor density. A year after surgery and I was in a worse place than I was in before surgery, I looked like I was a balding woman. For several years I had to use makeup and hair fibres cover up sparse areas. I also have an FUT scar very low down my scalp which is still very big and red.

I contacted Dr Soni 20 months after surgery on 3rd August 2018 by email (I still have the email) to let him know the results were unsatisfactory, there was poor density and the hairline looked very unnatural. He was very slow to reply back to me, first reply was 11th August 2018 and then I did not hear back again for many weeks 4th September 2018. Dr Soni told me that I will need another 2000 more grafts to improve density. So essentially, he underestimated the number of grafts I needed by almost 50% which is shocking! I paid a lot of money for this surgery and was not given any compassion or offered any refund/compensation of any kind and instead he wanted more money. I eventually did not reply back to Dr Soni’s email as I did not trust him to do a second surgery on me, I thought the best thing was to try and move on and forget about it.

Three years after surgery with Dr Soni, I found a reputable surgeon in the UK to fix my bad hair transplant. I showed him the photos of before and after the surgery with Dr Soni and the surgeon agreed it was done poorly. Dr Soni had underestimated the number of grafts needed and he had also used thick coarse hairs on the hairline which made it look unnatural. The surgeon also agreed with me that the the FUT scar was done in a poor area low on the scalp where there is little laxity hence why it stretched so badly. When I had my second surgery in the UK, the surgery was almost painless, I had only minor swelling and I had much better growth even though I only had 1500 grafts. With surgery in the UK I was given ATP solution as part of the aftercare in order to help the grafts survive. I did not receive this sort of aftercare with Dr Soni which is probably why some of the grafts did not take properly. Also another thing to note is that the second FUT scar almost virtually undetectable compared to the one from my first transplant.

Even though my hair transplant was fixed by a much better surgeon in the UK, I had many wasted grafts from my transplant with Dr Soni and now my hair is thinner than before because once the grafts are gone then they are gone forever, even the best surgeon in the world can’t bring them back. It has now been 5 years since surgery with Dr Soni, I have a huge FUT scar, thinner hair and have lost a lot of money to Medispa and also more money to fix a bad transplant. I still think about this mistake I made every day for the past 5 years and have suffered depression from it. I was never planning on writing a review because I realise this was my choice and my mistake to go with a bad surgeon, I had wanted to try my best to move on but decided to write this review now so that other people don’t make the same bad decisions I did.

This is not an update on my review, I wasn't sure how to add more than two photos onto my original review so here they are. Some more photos from before my operation and 20 months post operation showing the bad result
