Not Happy at All
I booked to have a hair transplant with Ilker Apaydin. I am a Norwood 6/7 and was unsure if anything could be done for me. I sent my photos via WhatsApp to the doctor and he replied to say that although I was not an ideal candidate he would improve my appearance with a FUT & FUE combination and would be able to cover 2/3 of my baldness with 4000 grafts. He also wanted €3600 in cash (which is possibly when alarm bells should have rung). I agreed, and it was arranged for me to travel to Turkey and stay at the the TZL Suites for 2 nights. Everything was ok until the day of the surgery. Upon inspection the doctor told me that now he could see me in the flesh he would not be able to cover as much of the baldness as he first thought and there would have to be a larger bald patch at the back of my head. I was unhappy with this considering the photos I had sent were very clear and accurate but I had travelled all the way to Turkey for this and so I agreed to continue nonetheless. However once I was in the chair ready to start the surgery the doctor then told me that the skin on the back of my head was very tight and he now believed that he wouldn't be able to cut a wide enough strip of hair for the FUT part of the operation. He said we are now looking at around 2000 grafts (half the original quote). At this point I asked him if he thought it was worth continuing and he said that he still thought he could improve my appearance. He said that I would have to grow my hair at the back longer than it was in order to cover the scar, then there would then be a big bald patch across the top of my head and then I would have a thin hairline at the front. That doesn't sound like an improvement to me - it sounds like an embarrassment! I explained that I couldn't see how this would be a good look and he said maybe we should not proceed after all. I was told that as I had not gone ahead with the surgery I would now have to pay for the hotel.
If the doctor had told me from the start from the photos I'd sent that there is no chance of doing anything (as I suspected), I would have saved myself a lot of money.
This trip cost me the air fare, the hotel bill for 2 nights, my food and drink and the rip-off exchange rate for changing the cash euros back to pounds. In total I have lost nearly £1000 and all for nothing. I am seriously not impressed (and still bald).
The moral of the story is that Norwood 6/7 is a lost cause and it's time to embrace the baldness. I will seek alternative methods of improving my appearance and just have to accept that having hair isn't an option for me.
I hope this helps someone else in my situation and saves them the time and money that I wasted.
