WORTH IT$2,100
Hi all.
Just recovering from my Hair Transplant at Maral Clinic today. Have to say I found the Clinic superb in all respects and so relieved I chose it over the huge choice available, especially in Turkey!
If you want a five star Hotel and all the trimmings then you pay the price and go elsewhere...BUT if you want a proper, professional hair transplant then Maral Clinic is the one. Its a jewel of the industry and there's no need to hesitate you're in top hands.
For background, I researched Turkey for the past year before I finally came across Maral, I even paid a deposit (which I lost) for another Clinic but I'm so glad I made this choice...Dr Maral's team are AMAZING!
I actually met a Physician from the USA undertaking his HT at Maral on the same day and also a fellow Brit from Bournemouth and JC from Phoenix Arizona. In fact there were guys from all across Europe, US and beyond either pre or post surgery at the Levent Hotel. The physician later told me that from his experience he found the Clinic to be very professional and they know their work. That is some compliment from a person who knows all about medicine and surgery.
As for Doctor Maral, well you simply couldn't find a more jolly, friendly and honest person in the business. Forget what people say about his emails or his no-nonsense approach, I found him personable, honest and upfront, he was straight to the point and gave me oodles of reassurance at his approach. It was clear he led from the front and his team showed huge respect to him.
If you're wondering, no, he doesn't do the surgery himself and frankly he doesn't need to. If you're hung up about making sure a Doctor performs all your HT then trust me you will miss out on being operated by one of THE most experienced Techs probably in Europe if not the world. They are top-class and know their business! I also say this because their results are consistently superb, their post-surgery pics on Realself speak for themself.
One of the most helpful I also looked at were the results of Derek Lucan here on Realself (go check him out). His end result actually inspired me to go for Maral Clinic.
As for the procedure, I must admit the first 3/4 injections do sting and are painful, no doubt about it! You even wonder what you are doing there - but just a little patience and it dies down very suddenly. Then its just a matter of waiting and allowing the team to do their magic.
Personally, I was extremely fortunate in having really good donor hair and Dr Maral's team managed to extract 5,000 grafts which they was so happy about. It shows they try the best for each patient. Now fingers crossed I get the results I want.
The 1st night is hard as I you allow anything to touch the grafts but you can wear a hat the next day provided at the clinic.
The hotel I stayed was the Levent Hotel, way off the tourist trail and about 3 stars but was spotlessly clean and had a very comfortable bed and great bathroom facilities. Also its very close to the Clinic but you were transported to and from by his transport guys who are well known to the Hotel staff and have a friendly demenour.
So I'm posting this review to help others in a similar situation to what I was in. Take care and I hope this review will help you, whether you choose Maral or someone else.
Happy to answer questions. Bye..
BTW its 2100 Euros. I couldn't set out the euros price at the top. And I manged to get a couple.of hours sleep without damaging the grafts.
Also will post more post and pre op-pics shortly

how long before you can sleep normally(without the neck pillow)?
and shower normally?

In reality I would say you can start sleeping without the neck pillow on the sixth night. I personally had to sleep face down and lie on my front on the first night only and then on my back thereafter. I tended to sleep on the side and kept my own pillow in such a way that it supported my neck only (rolled a small pillow and placed under neck). I kept it like that for the first 5 nights and then took it away. After that I was careful but in reality the grafts can't be dislodged after 5 days so you can be a bit more relaxed.

As for showering, you have your first wash after 3 nights have passed. You wash the head separately and rinse off as advised and use the products given by the clinic. You then wash your body separately. You keep to this routine until day 10. After that it's impossible to lose any grafts even if you try to use brute force. So you're able to shower everything together and use shampoos etc as you please with as much force as you want. You can also rub off any remainig scabs and you're much more at ease.

Hope that answers your question. Any more then please do ask.

Great review, wow 5000 grafts!!, dude you'll have more hair than Elvis in 9 months! can you tell me if the Levent Hotel has Air-con in the rooms? I'll be flying out later this month, am worried the temperatures are going to be scorching and my scalp will I'll be sweating loads if there's no air-con in the room lol

Yes Gazza. They have full A/C and the rooms are basic but very, very nice. The showeroom is spotlessly clean and the bed is super comfortable. You'll enjoy meeting the other guys coming for a HT.

On a serious note.. Its only after the HT that you'll have to be careful and that only for the first night. The next day, you go for your meds and advice. After that enjoy yourself, go sightseeing, shopping and go for a meal for some lovely authentic Turkish food. I did just that with some guys who had a HT that same day.

Take care and best of luck... I'm sure you won't need it.

Here are some pics pre-surgery. I will post some pics post surgery shortly to show exactly how the Clinic's work was done. I can state that my hair loss was very pronounced and much more than is visible from a full frontal shot.

Here are some photos immediately after the surgery. If you notice the patterning of the implants is very structured and consistent with other Realself users that used Maral Clinic. I understand this pattern helps to maximise the coverage of the scalp by the donor hair.
I will post more photos shortly.

Glad to hear you're happy with it. How's the scabbing? Any tips on taking care of it?

At day 6 and the scabs are still there. Daily washing is a must from day 4 though the scalp still feels very heavy and donor area is increasingly painful.

I am sleeping well but am taking Ibuprofen to relieve the pain. I'm advised these symptoms are normal as the nerves rejuvinate in the donor regions. Also told that from day 7 the scabs should start falling away naturally by running fingers gently over scalp.

So apart from the pain, its getting better. Redness in donor area has disappeared so hopefully my scabs will fall out now especially as I'm about to go on a long haul trip from Sunday. will post some latest pics.

I am sorry but I am afraid that the donor area for harvesting grafts is significantly beyond the permanent zone and there is a strong possibility that some of the transplanted hair will fall off in the future. As it is, the longetivity of FUE hair is in doubt and you not have all your transplanted hair survive for too long

How do you know? Why is that?
