Not Great for Male Hairlines
I had a so-so experience with this doctor.
The actual day of experience was great - Dr. Huebner was a total professional, listened carefully to my concerns, and him and the staff had a wonderful bedside manner.
I'm about 8 months out now, and it's clear that some of the decisions made during the procedure were subpar. I'm a norwood 2/3 male in my early 40s. By most standards, I did not have serious hair loss, but wanted to regain some of the thickness and the hairline that I had from a few years earlier. My main concern was that the hairline not look 'pluggy' or unnatural. I was assured that this would not be the case, and Dr H described in great detail why some hairlines look that way, and how the procedure would be done in such a way to avoid this look. Unfortunately, many of the outlined steps were not completed:
1. A giveaway for a hair transplant is multi-hair grafts in the visible hairline. Dr. H said that they only use multi-hair graft further back to add volume. There are a lot of multi-hair grafts in the front row of my hairline.
2. In order provide a natural looking hairline, you have to use softer hairs from the edges of the hairline that still exist (near the neck or ears). This wasn't done and it shows.
3. Dr H was very patient in drawing the sharpie line for my new hairline, working with me to revise it a couple times until I was satisfied. I wanted a more mature slightly receding hairline that matched my age. He followed the drawn line on one side and went well below it (closer to my eyes) on the other side. The result is one side that is lower than my natural hairline has been at any point in my life. I noticed this immediately after the procedure, and was told it looked that way due to swelling. It's not swollen anymore, and it looks the same.
4. There is an angling technique for the individual grafts on the hairline to make sure the hairs fall in the right direction. This wasn't done, and the hair have a natural tendency to shoot out.
5. In the places where there was zero hair (where the hairline was moved up), it's not very dense. Dr. H cited that we could only get to 35% density with one procedure, but my estimate is that we are at about 10% density. There is very noticeable space between each follicle. After comparing 100s of post procedure photos to my own, it's clear that the graphs were not packed in close enough.
Overall, the places on my head that were supplemented with hair look good, but the hairline - the thing I was most concerned about - looks unnatural.
If you look at his posted photos, and zoom in on male hairlines, it's clear that he's not particularly good at these. I wish I would have looked closer before I booked.
