Absolute BEST Surgeon and Staff! Totally Worth It!

WORTH IT
Dr. Daugherty and her staff are so AMAZING! Never have I felt so loved and cared for by any doctor’s office. They all truly care about me and want me to feel and look my best and to live my best life. Dr. Daugherty will literally sit directly in front of you, intentionally listen to your questions, and answer each question. I am so glad I chose her for my procedure. Dr. Daugherty is the absolute BEST surgeon!

I am going to post my entire story below in hopes that it can help someone else who may be struggling to decide on a surgeon or whether they should do whatever procedure is on their mind.

On 12/30/22, I had gynecomastia surgery with Dr. Daugherty.

My story with Dr. Daugherty’s office began by viewing her website. I noticed how great the before and after pictures looked on all her patients. I didn’t just look at the gynecomastia patients, I looked at every single picture of every procedure. The one theme amongst all the pictures is that Dr. Daugherty delivers GREAT and natural looking results. I also read her story of how she persevered through so many challenges during her surgical training and came out victorious. My thought process in choosing Dr. Daugherty is that, if she would fight that hard to become such an amazing surgeon, how much harder would she fight for me to get the results I wanted? I now know the answer to my question. She will do whatever is necessary to deliver the best results for her patients. She is a perfectionist and holds herself to a high standard of excellence. I knew I needed to call and schedule an appt with her.

I filled out the contact form on the website and figured someone would reach out to me soon. Mrs. Katie, the patient coordinator, set up a call with me the very next day. I remember Mrs. Katie calling me at our scheduled time and I was debating whether I should answer. Every other patient coordinator I had spoken to previously, just wanted my credit card info so they could check their box for the day and go on to the next patient. I answered the phone and was pleasantly surprised by the kindness and honesty of Mrs. Katie. She is like your personal cheerleader, life coach, and guidance counselor all in one. She was so open and honest about everything involved with my procedure. She explained pre/post op info and all costs. I remember her saying, “we don’t like surprising our patients”. I can confirm that is true. I have been told everything up front. There were no hidden costs or fees. Mrs. Katie took the time to listen to my story and to get to know me personally. I wasn’t just her 2:30 nuisance. I am forever indebted to Mrs. Katie, as I never would have booked my consult if she had not been so caring and kind to me.

I had my consult on 11/14/22. As I walk into Dr. Daugherty’s office, I was greeted by the brightest and friendliest smile of anyone in the south. Mrs. Abby is so welcoming at the front desk. She made all the check in and paperwork process so easy. Also, once they know your name, they actually call you by your name. They want to know you personally. This isn’t one of those offices where you write your name on a piece of paper and drop it into a basket until they call you by your last name because they don’t know who you are, they will know your name. You are somebody to them. You matter and your story matters.

The office is beautiful, and the waiting area has a beautiful couch to sit on while you have brief waiting period. Grab you a cup of coffee, but you won’t be waiting long so drink it fast.

From the very moment you hear the soft, heartwarming voice of Mrs. Mary, you know everything is going to be ok and that you are in the best of care. She is such an amazing and caring nurse. Mrs. Mary is so gentle and kind when speaking with you and reviewing all medical info and history. She is very thorough in explaining all pre/post op requirements and planning. I am a very nervous patient at any doctor’s office, but Mrs. Mary helped me to remain calm. Trust her when she says, “we are going to take good care of you”. At my consult, Mrs. Mary recorded all my medical history and vitals. She cares so much about her patients and just makes everything so easy.

When Dr. Daugherty enters a room, her smile immediately lights up the room. As I said above, she actually let me ask questions and intentionally listened to my questions. I have been to doctors appts where they ask you if you have any questions as they are opening the door to leave and only give you seconds to respond. Dr. Daugherty doesn’t do that, she wants you to ask questions. Your consult is your time to ask anything. She will make time for you. I am an extremely nervous patient, and I am always nervous around doctors. I struggled a bit at my consult just because I was so nervous. I skipped lunch that day because I was so nervous. Dr. Daugherty was so kind though. She explained everything about my procedure and answered all my questions. I knew I had made the right choice and was ready to book my surgery.

Mrs. Katie reviewed all the pricing with me for my procedure. We went ahead and booked my procedure for 12/30/22 at the Baton Rouge General Center for Health. I had my Pre-op appt 3 weeks prior to surgery and reviewed the whole surgical plan with Dr. Daugherty. Mrs. Mary ensured I understood all post-op care. Everything was set to go. Mrs. Mary stayed in contact with me leading up to my surgery day to make sure I had all my information and prescriptions. She didn’t leave out a single detail.

On my surgery day, everyone at BRG Center for Health was so nice to me. My pre-op nurses were Mrs. Carly and Mrs. Lucy. They helped me get into the gown and get comfortable. I was extremely nervous the IV start was going to hurt, but it was easy and very quick. I met with the CRNA, Mrs. Emily and went over several things regarding general anesthesia. Dr. Daugherty came in the pre-op area to make her surgical markings and make sure I was good to go. It wasn’t very long after that I was getting my “margarita”, as Mrs. Emily called it, in my IV. I remember them wheeling me down the hallway, through a double door and then paused for what seemed like a few seconds. I am not sure what happened for the next few hours after that. I woke up in the PACU with Mrs. Mia checking on me. She was a very nice nurse and really made sure I was comfortable. I guess you could say my first date with an anesthesiologist was not a very memorable one. But would you want it to be memorable? That’s something for you to ponder.

Dr. Daugherty cares so much about me that she met me at her office along with Mrs. Mary on the Saturday of New Year’s Eve to remove my surgical drains and ensure everything was doing well before I headed back home. They truly care about their patients. Another doctor may have just had me send a picture or wait until the next week to see a nurse, but not Dr. Daugherty. I have seen Dr. Daugherty at every single appt I have had. I can’t wait for my next follow up to check on my progress.

As I said previously, I am such a nervous patient. My procedure was so easy. For nearly 10 years, I put off having my surgery because I was afraid. I feared the pain I might feel. I feared going under anesthesia. I feared talking to a doctor about it. I feared having to remove my shirt for a doctor to see and feel the breast tissue. For 10 years, I wreaked havoc on my mind over the image I had of myself in my head. For 10 years, I let gynecomastia win the battle over my mind and I let it steal my confidence. From the way I would sit to the way I would walk to the clothes I would wear; I was letting gynecomastia win in every aspect of my life and was letting it steal my joy. After a very short procedure, its all over with. All the worry is GONE! The gynecomastia is GONE and will never return. I am not even a week from having my surgery at the time I am writing this review, but there is such a significant change in my chest size and shape. Even with the post-surgical swelling, its still so much smaller and flatter than it ever has been. I am so grateful for Dr. Daugherty. The before and after pics on her website do not even compare to how I look and feel at this point early into the healing process. The pain has really been very minimal following the procedure. Mrs. Mary explained the aftercare so well that I have not had any issues.

My friend, if you are reading this review, chances are you are in the same boat I was in out in the middle of the sea of uncertainty. You have probably researched dozens of surgeons and websites just like I did, and you are wondering how you can trust someone to do what you want them to do. I can’t promise you that Dr. Daugherty will make your wildest dreams come true, but I can promise you she will listen to everything you have to say. I can promise your story matters to Dr. Daugherty and everyone on her staff. You MATTER! I have personally experienced the artistic perfection of Dr. Daugherty and can tell you she will fight with all her might to provide you the best result for you. You deserve to call Dr. Daugherty’s office and set up a consult. That’s the first step in freeing your mind from whatever is holding you back from being the best version of yourself.

You can call your local butcher or taxidermist and they can definitely change your appearance, but if you want true life changing results from a doctor and staff who truly care, you owe it to yourself to call Dr. Daugherty’s office. I have done a lot of research on plastic/cosmetic surgeons, and I will tell you, you will not find another like Dr. Daugherty. Don’t delay, give Mrs. Katie a call today. Don’t keep putting things off and beating yourself up. Waiting will cost you more than any surgical procedure. Waiting costs, you your joy, happiness, and peace of mind. Dr. Daugherty and her staff are going to make everything so easy for you. All you must do is trust them and relax. Calling Mrs. Katie is like hitting the “EASY” button. I also believe you will be pleasantly surprised at their procedure costs; I know I was.

I hope my story can help someone struggling in the same way I was. Before and after pictures do not even begin to describe how I feel at only 1 week post op. I can't wait to see how I progress over the next several weeks and months. Dr. Daugherty is truly an artist and I am glad I got to be one of her canvases.

To Dr. Daugherty, Mrs. Mary, Mrs. Katie, and Mrs. Abby, thank you all for impacting my life in so many positive ways. Thanks for making a difference in my life. You all are unequivocally THE BEST!

Thank you for sharing such a detailed review! It's super helpful to read about experiences like yours in so much depth. How's the recovery coming along since you posted this? Is the swelling coming letting up yet or is that a longer-term process?

January 12, 2023
Roger, I am by no means an expert, but my own opinion is that I have very minimal swelling at this point. I am less than 2 weeks since surgery and I think my recovery is going very well. I am still very early in the healing process and my chest area still feels a little strange, but I know that will resolve with time. Pain has been very minimal and has been managed by Tylenol alone. I would equate the pain immediately after surgery to feeling as if you spent 4 hours in the gym doing every possible chest exercise with as heavy of weights as possible. That is to say, a lot of soreness and some discomfort with movement. At this point in the recovery process, I would compare things to maybe doing 3-4 chest exercises and having that little bit of soreness the next day. Nothing to complain about, but noticeable at times.

I will try to remember to update things as I have follow up appointments with my EPIC doctor and her staff. If the results already look this good, I can only imagine how AWESOME it will be once fully healed.

In my honest opinion, the hardest part of recovery has been keeping my mind occupied while I am limited as to what physical activities I can do during the recovery process. I am typically a very active person and can usually be found in my wood shop working on a project or in my gym trying to maintain a healthy lifestyle. I am trying this totally new concept of being a "compliant" patient. It's a little more on the boring side, but it should keep my doctor happy. LOL!

3 week post-op update:

If I am dreaming, please don’t wake me up! Dr. Daugherty has absolutely made my dream come true.

At this point, I still have some swelling, though not too bad, in my opinion. Incisions have healed nicely.

I am still so amazed at the kindness of Dr. Daugherty at every appointment. I am amazed at how much time she spends with me and even allowing me to ask questions so I get the absolute best post-op advice/care I can.

After removing my compression vest to shower every evening, I am almost in tears while looking into the mirror. I still have some healing ahead, but it’s already so amazing, it can only get better. Dr. Daugherty far surpassed all my expectations and wildest dreams.

There are not enough words in this world to truly describe how grateful I am for Dr. Daugherty!

6 week post-op update:

Physically, I am doing really well. I am healing great and loving the results.

Mentally, this has been one of the toughest times of my life. I did not realize how much I relied upon the gym to help me with stress. I am getting back into it, but the time off has done some damage. If I could give one piece of advice to anyone else considering surgery, I would tell them to find 1 person who will be your biggest supporter throughout recovery. You don't want to go it alone. Find someone who will encourage you when you are down. That is the one mistake that I made. A better support system would have made recovery a lot easier. Hindsight is always 20/20. I still love the results and would do it all over again, but I would have a better support person. Don't do life alone!

Can't wait to follow up with my EPIC surgeon and staff really soon.

3 month post-op update:

Words cannot even begin to describe how I feel right now. Dr. Daugherty has completely changed my life.

Prior to gynecomastia surgery, I was embarrassed to remove my shirt outside of the privacy of my home. Over the last 3 months, I have gained so much confidence in myself. I am not self conscious of my chest anymore. I can put a t-shirt on without having to stretch it out to avoid accentuating my breasts. I am actually proud to poke my chest out and walk with my head held high. I don't slump over anymore in an attempt to conceal my chest.

I am still healing and am definitely not at my final result, but the swelling is minimal at this point. Still some mild tenderness depending on what I do. Dr. Daugherty did such a great job with the incisions, you can't see them without really having to look and study the areola area.

I am so pleased and forever grateful for Dr. Daugherty and her staff. This has been so lifechanging. I would recommend anyone struggling with gynecomastia to not put off getting the surgery. It is so worth it. And if you want a kick ass surgeon that truly loves and cares about her patients, give Daugherty Plastic Surgery a call and speak with one of the lovely ladies there and set up an appointment. You will not be disappointed. Your life will be changed forever in the most positive way!

ps. If anyone from Dr. Daugherty's office happens to read this, please know, I absolutely love you all and I am so thankful for everything you have done for me. Thank you for always being so kind, positive, and encouraging. You have impacted my life in a HUGE way and I am forever grateful for each of you.

Life-Changing Results from an AMAZING Surgeon! The BEST!

KalanPSmith
Not really sure how to begin this update, so I will just give it to you straight and raw. I am just over 3 months post-op. Last week I entered a meeting room with several executives from 3 different companies. I was by far the youngest person in the room and the least experienced from the management side of things. I was able to walk into the room with my head held high, chest up, and full of confidence. I was able to command the respect and attention of everyone in the room. Typically, I would have at back in my seat and tried my best to go unnoticed. I probably would have been hunched over trying to avoid having my large breasts showing through my shirt.

I attribute this improved confidence to Dr. Daugherty and everything she did to help me. I absolutely love my results. I am so glad I chose Dr. Daugherty. I am still noticing changes in my chest as I continue to maintain a healthy diet and exercise. I am so excited to see what the future holds.

I am so thankful for Dr. Daugherty and her amazing staff. They have treated me so well at every single appt. Every office visit, phone call, and text message has been so positive and encouraging from day one. I have loved so many things about my visits before and after surgery, but one thing that stands out is how available Dr. Daugherty has been throughout. She was at every single appt I had before and after surgery. The kindness she has shown me is overwhelming. Dr. Daugherty is a highly skilled surgeon who truly cares about her patients and seeks to deliver the very best results. I am well on my way to being the best version of myself thanks to Dr. Daugherty. I hope other people get to experience the one of a kind care at Daugherty Plastic Surgery! . Please do yourself a favor and give them a call.
