Do NOT Go to for Gyno Surgery

I waited 9 months to write this, because I wanted to be fair and give every chance I could, but things never got any better, but worse. My experience with my Gynecomastia surgery by Dr. Ditesheim was awful. I would not recommend anyone with gyno to go there simply based on everything I had went through. This is a long explanation, but I want to cover everything so people will know what can and would go wrong. I never once felt like a cared for patient. I felt I wasted $7,000! Yes 7k. And you’ll see from this long list of issues, why I felt my money was wasted, the results could be way better other places for the same or less money and that money could have been spent somewhere that truly cares about the patient and backs their word.

Never having experienced surgery before, I was very nervous. Especially since this was something that had bothered me since I was 18, getting gyno from supplements, now being 26 and still dealing with the results. This had been something I wanted to do and saved for, for a very long time.

It started last year when I went in for the consultation. Nice office, warm welcoming so forth and so on. Once you get back there, you get all the hopes, dreams, and promises given to you right away. Dr. Ditesheim tells you everything he will do for you and says ‘itll look great’ ‘it’ll look great’ over and over. You go through his book that he has, showing you various results and past surgeries in the past and then telling you what yours will look like based on the surgery. He also explains how its painless, you’ll be back to yourself in a few days, and also, not having any noticeable scars. All my scars are noticeable and none of this was true. I was out of work for at least a week, twice!

At first all of this seemed great! But, being in sales my entire life, I started to get that ‘salesman feel’ but trusted his word at the time based on reviews, his video he shows that features him on a medical show, his background, and where his office is located in a very nice area of Charlotte etc. I tried to take everything into account.

I decided to think on it, and compare my options with other doctors in the area. Before I did (mistake on my part) I was contacted with a ‘limited time’ discount. Which, knowing the surgery was going to be expensive, $500 off wasn’t too bad, so I setup the appointment to move forward to take advantage of this offer.

Once I got there for the consultation, the mood was definitely different. The sale had been made.

I ask a lot of questions and I am always a curious person, especially when it comes to my body and someone performing surgery on me. Dr Diteshiem never seemed very warm or welcoming or even interested in my questions. It felt more like a sale, rather than an actual doctors office. All of my questions seemed to almost annoy him. He seriously seemed he did not care. Which, I get it. Surgeons have a certain way about them, but this guy really does not care. At least for me he didn’t. I guess I should have paid more attention to the amount of gyno reviews vs some of the other types of surgeries that are more popular.

But those are the small details. Once we start talking about the surgery, I then get sold on anesthesia. Both him and the nurse promised me everything under the sun if I got the anesthesia. They mentioned it would be better for my anxiety. They said the doctor would have more time to preform, he could ‘sculpt’ the area better, and when people got anesthesia, he goes above and beyond to make sure everything is perfect since he has extra time and can truly ‘sculpt’ the chest. The anesthesia was an extra $1,000 but again, I got sold and I admit to that.

So between then and the surgery I had a lot of questions that never seemed to get directly answered, or answered in a very round or vague way. I should have trusted my gut, but the process had started and I was this far in.

The surgery roles around, it gets preformed, I get home and notice, wait, the gyno is still there. Come to find out, Dr Diteshiem did NOT remove the glands with a direct incision. Which he charged for. We had spoke about this countless times in person and in email. As most of you know, if you ask any doctor, or do a tad bit of research, lipo alone does not remove gyno directly. The knots have to be directly taken out. Especially in my case where they were so large.  Again, which I paid to have removed.

Once I find this out and ask was there an incision done, he says no, the lipo removed the glands. So now I have been charged money, promised a service and then literally lied to.


After going in person and explaining I still had pain and showing him the knots were still there that can easily be seen and touched, he agreed to go back in and remove the gland as discussed and paid for (also like any other doctor would do or should have done the first time). Yet, never admitted being wrong, nor apologizing for any of this. He also made it seem he was doing me a favor for actually preforming the full surgery by reminding me how much it normally is for surgery and how I wasn’t being charged that again…..

So now I am having to go in surgery AGAIN less then two months after the first, with no anesthesia. So basically the money spent on anesthesia was wasted, because I ended up having surgery without it.

So post surgery, I take the bandages off. One side of my chest, around my nipple is caved in, the other side, my nipple is puffing out, but only half of the nipple is doing this.

With the incision, it went directly though my nipple, not underneath the areola (like almost all Doctors do, besides him I suppose. Research it)

So for months my chest and nipple stayed like that. The Dr promised it would get better and it did not.

My right side now caves in whenever I flex my chest. On the left side, the puffy nipple did reduce puffiness, but remains wonkey because the incision is in the middle of the nipple and doesn’t go all the way through to the other side. And also isn’t straight. So now that nipple has a small fold in it.



But wait, there is more.

3 months ago or so, as im dieting and continuing to get back in my normal shape, I notice a line like, roll of fat/tissue directly under my armpit near the scar where the surgery was preformed.

I decided to push back my follow up appointment in an effort to continue loosing more weight and seeing if it went away on its on. Well, months later, weighing 180lbs, the roll is still there. So now, I have this random line of fat, that sits underneath my armpit below my pec that was never there before.

I go in for my follow up and point this out. His response is ‘its your lymphatic system’……..

Knowing this doesn’t sound right, I then continue to research and even start asking other doctors. Which I had already done for the other mistakes and they agreed a lot was done poorly, the knots should have been removed the first time, the second time too much was taken out in my chest, the incision was in the middle of my nipple and not even a straight line, and now this!

Other doctors have said that it appears to be fat that was missed during lipo.

At the follow up, after checking the notes, the Dr says ‘we did not preform lipo in that area, so its just trauma to the body’. ‘It will go away on its on’.

Remind you this is almost 9months post surgery, on top of everything else that was not done as promised and lied to me about.

And so that, it was broke it for me. After the last lie, I knew I needed to post a review for everyone to know the experience I had and they can avoid having the same experience when it comes to gyno surgery.

Please go somewhere else for your gyno surgery guys, trust me. Save your money and make sure you find a doctor that truly cares about your results, is honest with you cares about you as a person and their patient.
