From my very first consultation, Dr. Cardenas provided exemplary care. She was honest, transparent, and incredibly knowledgeable. The recovery was difficult (as expected), but the pain was well managed given the extent of surgery. Dr. Cardenas continued to go above and beyond, personally visiting the recovery house every other day to monitor my incisions and overall well-being. By day five, I felt noticeably more at ease.

When I returned home after 10 days, I unfortunately developed a small opening in my buttocks incision. This is a known risk of major surgery, and Dr. Cardenas and her team guided me through the entire process with care and compassion. She gave me her personal cell phone number and checked in with me almost daily. How many surgeons do you know who provide that level of access and follow-up care? It’s unheard of. A wound-care specialist in Seattle even told me, “Your surgeon has truly done a beautiful job on your incisions,” which meant a lot coming from someone who sees thousands of surgical cases.

We ultimately determined that the best course of action was for me to return to Mexico for a quick procedure to close the opening and prevent complications. Her team handled every arrangement. I traveled alone and asked if someone could update my mom before and after the procedure—Dr. Cardenas personally called her both times. Even typing that brings tears to my eyes.
