so grateful!

I'm so grateful I met Dr. Pekar and his lovely staff.
I've been wanting a gum lift since I was in my early 20s, but I didn't realize such a thing existed, moreover, I would have never been able to afford it. I HATED my gummy smile. I had braces in my youth for 6 years, bit it did nothing to correct my large gums. It's not just that my smile was gummy, it was that I had short teeth, especially my lateral incisors. My front 4 teeth were tiny little squares, and I had zero confidence in my smile, especially after people like my mother and so-called friends would criticise my gums.
Fast forward to the beginning of 2013 when I started taking a real stand at bettering my body. I researched gum contouring, but after a few consults, I was informed that my issue was too much bone growth, that the teeth were "normal" sized, but it was in fact my gums that were too large in the front. The ONLY option to fix this issue was crown lengthening - a procedure where they cut your gums, flap them back, and literally carve the jaw bone down around each individual tooth (exposing more tooth), sanding down the bone, and sewing/gluing the gums back into place.
I knew I wanted this. Despite the fact I'd be awake during my bones bring hacked away,(they can sedate you) I just knew that the pain would be worth the reward of having a smile I could be proud of. So I chose Dr. Pekar to help me meet my smile goal.
The surgery was uncomfortable. It took about an hour, the majority of the time was carving the bone, and then sanding the bones smooth. I could feel it and hear it, but there was no real pain. Dr. Pekar did everything to ensure I was as comfortable as possible. He used one small stitch, and medical grade super glue to holds the gums into place. I was in mega pain after the surgery was over. I felt like an elephant had sat on my face, but Dr. Pekar's staff made sure to give me 3 days worth of pain killers which did help.
The next day, the glue came off my teeth and gums in one big strip. I was concerned, so Dr. Pekar told me to come back in and looked at me. He didn't charge me, which I thought was super mind especially since he was really busy that day.
I was in love with my results right away, but the gums were VERY bruised, which is totally normal, and I had a TON of pain. My left front tooth hurt so bad that I'd wake up and feel like crying. It was so bad, and my stomach was getting sore from all the Advil. That evening, I called the office to leave a message, and I was surprised to hear them provide his cell phone number for after hours emergency. I texted Dr. Pekar, and he called me no more than an hour later. He told me to take more pain pills and that he'd help me the next day.
At noon the next day I went in, and he realigned my bite. The problem was that the tooth was sensitive due to the surgical pressure of removing bone, and when I'd bite, my bottom tooth would exclusively smash that tooth. He ground it down, took his time, and told me that it would help the tooth acclimate. Boy was he right! Two days later and I'm in significantly less pain, but it'll be some time before I bite into an apple again. He was so kind, again, he didn't charge me for the emergency appointment.
I'm super happy with my results, and I can honestly say this procedure has helped me feel like a beautiful person, proud to smile, just days after the surgery! I need to go to an ears, nose, throat specialist because I was informed that the extra bone/gum growth is from "mouth breathing" during sleep, from my deviated septum. I have a consult in October to get that fixed.
I can't express my gratitude enough towards Dr. Pekar, Erica, and Kristen for being so wonderful and great through all my questions and a painful procedure.
They direct billed to my insurance, a very smooth exchange, and like I said, I couldn't be happier. A very painful procedure. Anytime we deal with hard tissue a.k.a. bone it's generally very painful, but the results are beautiful!
I can't say enough of how wonderful I think Dr. Pekar is. He's a very intelligent, interesting, well learned man, a true master of his craft, and super duper caring. He's the perfect doctor for what I needed, and I'll be happy to suggest him and see his hygienists for cleanings every 6 months. Again, thank you so so so so much!!!!!
