For many years, I badly abused my skin by spending time in the sun (unprotected most of the time in the early years) and in tanning beds. When my late husband was diagnosed with malignant melanoma, I finally became "smart" and stopped all tanning even though I know the damage had been done. For many years, I had wanted to have the sun damage on my face removed but was afraid of the pain and what I would have to do after the procedure had been done. The downtime frightened me. I had talked to several dermatologists about this but none of them made me feel confident about it except Dr. Jordan Rihani, who, of course, is a plastic surgeon. He didn't even have to talk me into it. I offhandedly asked him what procedure he would recommend for me when I was in his office having my Botox injections one day, and he merely explained what he felt would be the best option for my skin problems. I booked the appointment for the following week with no hesitation. Dr. Rihani explains everything in such great detail, yet in laymen's terms, that there is no way a patient can possibly misunderstand. And, at no point was I nervous, much less afraid. The procedure is a bit lengthy (mine took about an hour and a half but each patent is different; I was very badly sun damaged). Dr. Rihani numbs the entire face before doing anything so there isn't much felt at all during the procedure. He explains what he is doing every step of the way, while asking if everything is going okay on your end. You leave the clinic after the procedure is finished. Dr. Rihani follows up daily and I had follow up appointments almost every two to three days. I also sent him selfies every morning so that he could see my progress. I will admit that the pictures were not pretty! Some were downright scary. However, the progression is very fast. I am very, very fair skinned so I think my downtime was a little longer than most. I didn't feel comfortable being out and about for about two weeks. I think most people are good to go within a week or so. But the results far outweigh any minor inconveniences. My skin is so clear now that I can actually go out in public with only sunscreen on, but feel better wearing mineral makeup as well. It's such a blessing to no longer be applying concealers and liquid or cream foundation, without hiding the sun damage after applying everything. Those days are over! Anyone who is even remotely considering this procedure should not delay. You will not be sorry. And Dr. Jordan Rihani is THE best. He's very thorough and has done this procedure many times. He will gladly answer any and all of your questions.

I just had fractional co2 laser done 2 days ago and I must say it was not nearly as bad as I expected. I just hope I get good results. I still see deep wrinkles and I hope they dissipate over the next few months as collagen builds. Did you have immediate good results or did it take a period of time to notice a difference? Would love to see your before and after pictures.

First of all, congratulations! I put this procedure off for a few years. I was really afraid to have it done and even though looking in the mirror the next day was scary, my only regret was that I didn't do it sooner. Then again, I know for a fact that I wouldn't have gotten the great results that I received from Dr Rihani. Secondly, I'm still working on the photos. Dr Rihani has joined a practice in Dallas and is no longer here in Gulf Shores.
To answer your question, I had more sun damage (really, really bad sun damage) than deep wrinkles. However, that being said, I definitely had MANY fine lines and wrinkles and those were gone as soon as the layers of skin peeled off and the new "fresh pink" skin was visible. I would say that took about 10 days. And, as I stated in another post, my healing process took a bit longer than the norm because my skin is very fair.
I hope this helps you out. It does take patience but it's well worth it. Best wishes to you and happy holidays!
PS The plastic surgeon who I am seeing following up since Dr Rihani is no longer here, Dr Fred Fedok, has me continuing to use Retin-A which is keeping the collagen build up going.

Welcome to the community, I'm so glad that you took the time to share your experience and that you're happy with your results. Do you have any photos to share?
That sounds great - thank you! And don't worry about scaring anyone with your progress photos, I hope you will reconsider and add them as they give others an idea on what to expect.
Have a great weekend!
