A little history...

enedwards
Most of my original post was lost due to connection issues so just a little background:
I developed very early and suspect that I have sensitivity to hormones. I believe the last time I was a DD was when I was 16. I had my first pregnancy at 17, which ended in a stillbirth. My breast grew during this pregnancy and afterwards while I was lactating. I was told that they would reduce in size after I "dried up" but that never happened. I was first fitted for a bra in college at the age of 22, at Lane Bryant, and left completely embarrassed when the rep told me I looked like a [RS bleep] star and they had nothing that would fit me. I ended up measuring at home and ordering a 36HH/I online. It fit with only a little spilling from the top, but was extremely pointy! I wore several bras to try to exercise to lose weight. In 2009, attempting high impact exercise came to a halt as I began experiencing shooting pains and numbness in my legs that would cause me to collapse when I walked. Following the advise of the neurologist (who determined that me being fat was the problem) I increased the intensity of my aerobic exercise, and ended up with loss of function in my legs; this landed me in a wheelchair. I ended up seeing a chiropractor, neurologist, and an orthopedic surgeon. After an MRI it was revealed that I have slight herniations at L5 and S1. The exercise that I was doing exacerbated my nerve inflammation, so I was told to discontinue. All of the specialists agreed that the best course of action would be a breast reduction, so I applied to get one through my student health insurance. I was pretty excited, considering I had wanted a BR since I was 17. I ended up being denied because the only way that insurance would cover it would be if a person had breast cancer, had a mastectomy, and needed the other breast reduced! I was devastated! After 3 months of bedrest, and working with my professors to complete my work online, I was able to graduate with my BA in psychology. (with honors!) I was able to use a walker to cross the stage, and eventually I was able to walk again without assistance. I had already decided that I would become a psychiatric nurse, so I ended up getting into an ADN program, but not before having 2 miscarriages. Again, with each pregnancy my breast grew, and never reduced in size. I ended up pregnant in the first semester of nursing school, everything was going well and I was moved down to low risk. The day after Christmas (2012) at 20 weeks and 1 day, my water broke, my placenta separated and I nearly lost my life. My son did not survive and I delivered him stillborn. I continued nursing school and in my last semester NuvaRing decided to shake things up and I became pregnant with my daughter. After holding my breath I gave birth to a beautiful tiny firecracker at 36 weeks and 5 days. (5lbs 2oz 14 1/2in !) I breastfed and for the first time I didn't feel like my breast were totally useless! 6 months into breastfeeding, I was sized at a 38N! I felt completely defeated. I applied for a BR through the insurance at my job, and was initially denied due to "Not enough evidence of Physician supervised weight loss" I appealed, because I found that all of my information was not faxed from my Dr. I called the insurance company persistently, knowing that they had all the information they needed. To be honest, I really think there was a bit of discrimination on the part of the insurance company because when I would call, I was told "Well, we have 30 days" and "Its a cosmetic procedure". I kept telling them about the issues I was having including having to call out of work, not being able to clean my home, and having days where I could not pick up my now 14 month old daughter. One of the last phone calls I made I was told, "Well...we still have 3 days, 5 hours and 23 minutes to make a decision". I thought that was pretty crazy. But they finally approved me, and my surgery is scheduled for January 15, 2016. My boobs have literally gotten in the way of EVERY aspect of my life, to the point were I am unable to enjoy most things. I can't even imagine what waking up with DD's will feel like. I am just glad that this is FINALLY happening after 11 years.

It's crazy that BR would be considered "cosmetic" - those people should try walking around with 5-10 extra pounds strapped to their chests. And chronic neck and back pain for 40 years! Good luck with everything-my BR really changed my life. I'm excited for you!!

Thank you so much! And yes, it was infuriating at the time! "cosmetic" my ass. I don't think medically necessary shouldn't be "cosmetic". I would even feel less insulted by "elective". People have no idea!

Lumbar Epidural for shooting pains and weight loss attempts

enedwards
I ended up getting a steroid injection in my back to decrease the shooting pains in my legs on Dec 4th at the pain clinic I go to. It hurt pretty bad, and I was surprised I wasn't given anything to help with pain or anxiety. I do have slightly increase range of motion, and the shooting pains are dull instead of sharp and occur less often. I still have shooting pains in my arms, hands and elbows so I'm hoping that the BR will help with this. I am also going to check out a chiropractor to see if I can be adjusted in the weeks leading up to my surgery, because I know my posture will change drastically after surgery. I will keep everyone updated.
