Concerning cost of this procedure, I am just...

Concerning cost of this procedure, I am just guessing, since my health insurance actually paid for the whole surgery, but this website form required that I insert a figure. At 66 years old, my upper eyelids were starting to sag down and sort of sit on my eyelash area. See before photos. Little did I realize that this was slowly and gradually compromising my peripheral vision. This was proven by the untaped and then taped field of vision test that I had done by my optometrist. A script for this specific type of test was written by my plastic surgeon and I took it to my eye doc. You take the test during which you stare straight ahead into a device focusing on a dot of light. You have a "clicker" in your hand and when you see another dot of light pop up somewhere on the screen, without moving your eyes from the center, you push the clicker button. This test is done first without tape, then they tape your eyelids up as if you had already had the surgery and you do the test again. I was amazed at how much I was actually missing peripherally. The test results are then sent to your insurance company and your plastic surgeon. Most insurance companies will cover this surgery if a certain percentage of your vision is being compromised. Two weeks after the test, I got a call from my PS that my surgery was approved, and I was elated! I had upper blepharoplasty done on both eyes with "twilight sleep" anesthesia. I was amazed that there was only a slight bit of pain on the first day and two tylenol took care of that. That's it! But for the next week & a half I looked like I had lost a boxing match! I was later told that I had much more bruising that people normally do. Not sure why. I had stopped all the supplements as instructed before the surgery and applied ice packs after the surgery. But amazingly no pain! Had to sleep propped up with pillows on the couch for 6 weeks and always sleep on my back so that the symmetry would stay the same in both eyes. Sounds hard to do, but you become very aware of this and it just becomes a habit. Now at six months out, I am very happy I had this surgery done. I look much more refreshed and not tired looking. I still have very tiny lumpy scars but they are hidden in the eye crease and no one can tell, even when I tell them I had the surgery. I am told that those will flatten out completely in a few more months. If your upper eyelids are sagging and you are thinking of having this done, do not hesitate. And be sure to ask your surgeon to write a script for the "taped & untaped field of vision test" I described and your insurance just might cover your procedure. By the way, exactly one year before this surgery, I had another PS procedure that was not covered. I had a lower face lift. Paid for that in interest free installments with CareCredit. After that much more involved surgery, this eyelid surgery was a walk in the park! I'll have to write a review about that later. My 67 year old husband was so impressed with my results that he just made an appointment to have eyelid surgery too!

He is not only a wonderful plastic surgeon but also a very kind and caring person. He never rushes you during consultations and answers all your questions like you are the only patient there. This is why there is sometimes a long wait in the waiting room, but that's Ok because you know he will give you the same special attention. He is very skilled as a board certified plastic surgeon and also has a background as an oral and maxillofacial surgeon. I interviewed 2 other plastic surgeons before deciding on Dr. Johns to do my lower or mini facelift and then also my upper blepharoplasty so I highly recommend him.
