After months of jumping through hoops for...

After months of jumping through hoops for insurance to cover, I finally had my breast reduction on 8/11/16. I couldn't have imagined this new body and life. While the recovery is anything but mild, it is 100% worth it! I would encourage anyone interested to pursue this option for a better life.

They surgery is outpatient. I went in at 5am. Went into the procedure room by 7:40 and was out by 10:40 am. I was in recovery room for about 40 minutes and then in my hospital room until 3pm.

The first 3-4 days of recovery will be brutal. I was able to manage pain with Tylenol and avoided taking prescription pain meds for fear of vomiting (past experiences). I had drains and an ace bandage for those first three days. If you can, please have your care taker tend to the drains. You will be weak and unable to move quickly to get them emptied and set. After four days the ace bandages and drains were removed. I caution you to not get too much anxiety about getting the drains removed. You take a deep breath and they are pulled out. I would recommend timing your pain meds just right for this process. A weird burning session happens after removal but only lasts seconds. I am now over 10 days post -op and feeling pretty good!

Things to do before surgery:

Work on your abs and back muscles! You will be so weak and need help shifting around after surgery. A strong core and back will help this :)

Make sure you have a million and one pillows of different sizes. It will be hard to get comfortable and if your experience is like mine, you will also be dealing with some back pain ( whatever position i was in during surgery must have been uncomfortable and made my back sore in one spot).

have multiple ice packs-- also different sizes!

Random things that happened during my surgery/after:

1. After coming out of the surgery and into the recovery room, I woke up SO ITCHY. I wanted to itch my face off but was so tired and out of it, i had trouble communicating that. They finally gave me bendryl and I felt much better.

2. About 8 days post op i start experiencing a redness around my stitches. This creeped up towards my mid breast by sunday. Mildly concerned, I called my doctor and was seen on Monday .They suspect a possible reaction to the tape that covered my stitches and removed this right away. I was given a steroid to remedy this issues. (Imagine poison ivy looking symptom on the boobs!).

3. My stomach after surgery was HUGE. It was so full of air and pressure. It took about a week to go away. It honestly looked like i was three months pregnant!
