Great results with PRP for hair loss

ORIGINAL POST

Great Results with PRP for Hair Loss.

I’ve had three PRP treatments for hair loss spaced about a month apart. My last treatment was two months ago. I’ve also been using minoxidil twice a day. The combination has really worked to thicken my hair. Dr. Laurel was great to work with. She’s down to earth, very easy to talk to and very informative about the procedure. It was very tolerable. Minimal pain from the injections. She administers nitric oxide during the treatment and uses a cooling wand on the scalp to minimize discomfort.

Thanks for posting-that looks great! I’m curious about the procedure. Does she inject or microneedle? Can I ask about how much this costs? Did she do just the area of interest or more? Thanks for any information.

She injects. I get the whole top of my head done where I’m thinning. Between 40-50 injections I believe. $750 per treatment.

That sounds pretty reasonable. I checked one place around here in the Columbus area and it was over $1000 each, with injections by a physician. There’s another medispa type place which does microneedling with a pen type device by a tech for about $600, so I’m debating. Did it hurt much? How long did it take? Almost ready to take the plunge lol.

It was slightly painful. My doc administers nitrous oxide and uses a cooling wand that blows cold air on your scalp as she injects. That combo minimizes the pain but doesn’t eliminate it 100%. It’s tolerable. The whole procedure from start to finish is about an hour, but the actual injections only take a couple of minutes.

Oh wow, that’s great to know. You did describe initially the pain level sorry, I guess I was worried enough to ask again lol. Thanks for taking the time, it was very helpful.

Do you have to continue using minoxidil forever?

Maybe. Any new hair growth you get from Minoxidil alone will eventually disappear if you stop using it. Possibly the same with PRP. They suggest maintenance treatments about every 6 months.

How do you know if it was the minoxidil on its own that was giving your good results?

Still good

It's been about 8 months since my last treatment and my hair is still doing great. I was supposed to go back for another treatment in June but because of COVID I was out of a job for 2 months so I had to prioritize my spending. However, I discovered micro needling for the scalp and I've been doing that once per week for the last several months and I think that may be helping me also. There are studies that show that micro needling combined with Minoxidil does increase hair growth. I'm keeping a close watch to make sure and if I notice more hair loss I'll get another PRP treatment.

After about a year since my first treatment and a total of 4 treatments, along with Minoxidil and micro needling. Still a bit of thinness in the crown but overall I'm very pleased. This was also right after a short haircut which usually makes it look thinner. I'm able to style my hair so much easier now.
