Glycolic Peel to even out my skin tone and texture

ORIGINAL POST

Glycolic Peel

WORTH IT
I wanted to have a peel that would have minimal visual peeling. This glycolic peel was 30% to start off with.
It will even out my skin tone and texture to give it a beautiful complexion.
I’m going for round 2 in 6 weeks and my esthetician, Kelly, will increase the percentage to 60%.

Would this be doable for someone with sensitive skin? Thanks
User Avatar

YES! I have THE MOST sensitive skin. My esthetician first dabbed a little cotton swab full of the weakest strength glycolic acid to test my sensitivity. She then went on from there. I was shocked that there was no reaction to it!! Next time we are going stronger!! Good luck. Let me know if you venture into doing it.
May 20, 2019
Good to know! I think I will start with the hydra facial. I, too, see Dr. Sweis. I’m starting to get jowly but will not cut into my face. My husband has put the kybosh on that!! I need to try something less invasive.
User Avatar
May 20, 2019
How long have you been her patient? Have you had any procedure with her? Obviously not any surgery, if hubby says no cutting! I did microneedling too and PRP. Are you using Sweis for the hydra facial? I’m sure I’m older than you, and require an arsenal of tools to look good!!
May 20, 2019
Well you look amazing. I see her for Botox and filler. But I am very conservative about it. I know I should use more Botox but I don’t want the frozen look. Luckily, she doesn’t make me feel bad about it. However, at my last appointment she suggested 3 syringes of juvaderm in my cheeks to lift my sagging jawline. I have to think about it. I just picture Jenny McCarthy, who looks like a cartoon figure of herself with all that juvaderm and I get nervous that will be me!!!
User Avatar
May 20, 2019
So funny, she did the exact same thing with me. I only wanted two syringes of Juvederm in my cheeks, and she said I need three. I felt that two would suffice. I detest that “done look” on ladies. It’s so obvious that they went haywire with the Juvederm. Have you been going to her for a long time? I’m curious if we know each other! I live in Highland Park!!
May 20, 2019
Yes. I’ve been going to her for about 9 years. But I’m out in the crystal lake area.

Wow, you travel far for Botox! Tell her that we’ve “connected “! She’ll love to hear that. I too have been going to her for awhile. Have you met Kelly, her esthetician?

I know it’s premature to evaluate my complexion at only two days after, but it seriously feels AND looks glowing and more of an even tone in the color of my skin!

I had glycolic peels from age 45 to 58. They were great. Now, in my late 60’s I get bbl laser.
User Avatar
May 19, 2019
Did you experience any peeling at all on your face? I actually don’t see any , yet. I am in my 60’s too and just recently had Erbium laser. What’s bbl laser? How often do you get it ?
User Avatar

Any photos of your glycolic peel?
May 20, 2019
One more question. Have you done juvaderm under the eyes? I’ve gotten hollow. I bruise a lot when we do it in the chin and nose to mouth area. Is there a lot of bruising under the eye? I have a lot of tiny veins.
User Avatar
May 20, 2019
I’ve done Juvederm under my eyes awhile ago. Yes, I looked like a prize fighter !! Not pretty.
May 22, 2019
If you choose juvederm, PLEASE go to someone who specializes in eyes, but honestly check out my reviews. It was the biggest mistake of my life!

Ok Ms. Rainy! I read your portfolio on Juvederm. It sure is enough information to ward off the usage of this product in your TTs Those beautiful baby blues went through HELL and then bock!! This review is from almost two years ago, would you still say that The hollowness has dissipated a little? Any updated pix so we all can see how things went awry?

You are such an awesome accessory to the real self site! As far as glycolic peels, the 30% never made me actually peel..i did get a couple of weeks of a glowy complexion. Looking forward to your upcoming review on the 60%.
User Avatar
May 22, 2019
Hi kindred spirit! Yes, the 30% peel did add a lovely glow to my skin, but hence the peeling action was missing . Round two is in five weeks and we’re upping it to 60%. I’m hoping it won’t burn too much, since my skin is sensitive. But, like the saying goes,,, more bang for your buck!’ Thx for ALWAYS being my biggest support and hero here on RealSelf. Hugs. Hugs. Hugs. Love and light. Randi

How often do you get your glycolic peels? I don’t want to entrench myself in glycolic acid!!
May 22, 2019
Thank you Angel!! I have been extremely depressed and your spiritually uplifting response above put a smike on my face. I absolutely love seeing women, and men here on Real Self, making positive change in their lives, and their esteem, through procedures that allow them to put their best faces and bodies forward ( or backsides for the booty gals .. :) )... Real Self is an integral part of my daily life. And... I love seeing your quite successful youthification and beautification! You are a true inspiration!
May 22, 2019
I just saw this in my email. So Icame back to post a 2nd response. I dont do glycolic peels anymore. I dont feel that they do much beyond a very temporary glow. I do TCA at home 3 to 4 times a year, but I have loads of experience with peels. I also like Tazorac creme ( a strong retinoid) by prescription. Tazorac was developed for psoriasis but a derm in Miami wrote me a scriot for skin revitilization and pimple clearing. It is essentially Retin-A on steroids. I can use it 2 nights in a row or 3 times in a week, before bed, and the results are just like a medium depth peel as far as wrinkle, line and dark spot eradication, but with very little actual peeling. It seems to remodel the skin somehow.
May 22, 2019
Rand: i want to add that you should not do TCA soon after erbium yag lasering. If you decide to try the tazorac creme please be vigilant with the sunblock. But by the looks of your exceptionally youthful face and arms, I believe you already are a sunscreen disciple. But I want to make sure I let you know that.
User Avatar
May 22, 2019
Hi My Love! TCA peel is more aggressive than a glycolic peel, yes!???! Is it ok to up my percentage of glycolic to 60% in six weeks from now? I am very vigilant with my sunscreen. I purchased EltaMD for my face and I also got sunscreen for my upper eye lids bc of the recent blep. I religiously apply sunscreen to my body as well. Thx for your concern. Geez, I can use you in my daily life, just to remind me of being pro active in shunning the sun! Thx for the mention of my youthful arms, I’ve noticed that they are not quite what they used to be... like the rest of me. ;(
User Avatar
May 22, 2019
Interesting what you said, the peels don’t do much for you than just a temporary glow! I kind of felt that way immediately following my peel. Then I read on RS that many women do it at home, at a fraction of the price. So, that being said, should I ask my esthetician if she’s educated on TCA ? I’ve never heard of Tazorac cream, but I’ll google it now! I’m in awe reading your descriptions of all these peels and creams. You can certainly write a book on aesthetic self care!!
May 22, 2019
I cannot answer with medical knowledge or experience at to the 60%. I assume Doc Sweis is saying it is ok to do.
User Avatar
May 22, 2019
Let me say that you evoke a strong sense of kindness and caring, like no other!! You are extremely articulate in your messages. I can tell that you are very very educated in all areas! I’m sorry to hear of your depression! I deal with it too, but with the help of meds. I’m a habitual RealSelf follower, and love reading other reviews! I’ve met some awesome people, like yourself, that have helped me spiritually and emotionally! You are a gift that keeps on giving!!
User Avatar
May 22, 2019
Ok, so personally speaking, would you go with the 60% if you were in my situation
May 22, 2019
Lol.. Cute. Very cute! I went the laser route for full face (actually plasma) and had enormous fat loss at a cost if thousands. I went to the PS at that time for vertical lip line abatement and was pressured into a full face plasma resurfacing. Down time was exactly like CO 2. But within 18 months, maybe less, the fat loss was ghastly. So I am very apprehensive now. These home peels are not the best way to go, but merely a quick and temporary fix. I just wish there was an intensive skin renewal procedure without caveats... I really need to find a truly caring, competent PS or derm and a procedure needs to be developed for skin and face renewal without side effects that age the face in other ways.
May 22, 2019
I would wait to have the 60%. You look so lovely right now, so why tempt fate? Your skin is still in a virgin like state from the erbium.
User Avatar
May 22, 2019
So your plasma resurfacing results went awry. There should be warning signs with blinking lights illuminating saying proceed with caution!! If we only knew of these things hindsight! You, with all your medical knowledge, need to be a pioneer in face renewal without adverse effects.

May 22, 2019
I do have 2 ideas that could revolutionize facial/ body fillers and skin resurfacing without ablation. But I wont make them public just yet.

May 21, 2019
Your skin looks radiant and amazingly soomth-- like you are in your 30's!! I love glycolic peels when done correctly - meaning not to much at once just like you're doing it. I use obagi products and suppliment with a glycolic peel about once every 12-18 months.
User Avatar
May 21, 2019
Hi Debbie! Do you get your glycolic peel at your ps’ office? What percentage acid do you use? I’m not experiencing any “peeling “ yet, is this normal? Do you like Obagi products? How’s your beautiful face after a couple of months? Are you looking in a mirror, and saying...OMG!!! THAT’s ME!!?? I remember after my fl I was in total disbelief that I looked so much younger. Thx, for your amazing kindness!!! Hugs. Hugs. Hugs.
May 22, 2019
I loooovvvve Obagi - being using it for probably 10+ years. I do go off it for about 6 months every 3-4 yrs just to try something different but always come back. People seem to notice and comment how nice my skin looks when I'm using it religiously. I'll see if I can upload a new pic to my site tomorrow - not real savvy with the site yet. It's been 8 mos. since my FL and yes still very happy although I do feel my jowls have dropped a little and the FL was a deeper SMAS lift. Going to talk with PS in 2 weeks about that.
User Avatar
May 22, 2019
I’m going to see my ps next week for Juvederm so I’ll ask her about Obaji. Is there a special line of Obaji that you recommend? My jowls are not where I want them to be either. I’m holding off until the end of this year to make a “leap of faith “.
May 21, 2019
My PS office is 2 hrs away so I use my local dermatologist office — their esthetician. Skin medica is the line they prefer. I am using 65% as the areas around my mouth are to sensitive to go higher- I always take Valtrex a couple days before so the mouth area doesn’t break out. Yes, I get lots of peeling in “sheets” after day 2 that last about 4 days total. Not public ready til after that because it just doesn’t look shall I say sanitary? Heavy shedding.
User Avatar
May 21, 2019
I also take Valtrex before any procedure on my face. I had shingles a couple of years ago. It was horrific!! Did you start at a lower percentage and then work up to 65%? I think I’m ready for a higher percentage. My face didn’t peel at all, and I didn’t feel anything when she applied the peel. I have sensitive skin, so I thought I’d feel it! She said I’d experience “ erasure dust”!! But, there’s no dust!!!
User Avatar
May 21, 2019
Can I ask you how much you paid?
May 22, 2019
oh wow, I wish I could remember entirely because it seems I always have a freckle here and there zapped or a vein zapped so it's lumped together -- If I remember correctly just for the glycolic around $125. I've also had a VI (trademark) Peel - that is a really nice deep rejuvenation peel - $295.
User Avatar
May 22, 2019
I was just wondering if things are more expensive here in Chicago, but I paid $135. What exactly is a VI peel and what is the difference in your skin post treatment?
User Avatar
May 22, 2019
How often do you “dab” into these peels?
May 23, 2019
I was thinking, perhaps you didn't have must peel because your skin is so new and refreshed already from the laser treatment???
User Avatar
May 23, 2019
I was hoping to see some peeling, its just the feeling of knowing it’s “working “! But, like you mentioned, the skin is quite new and not ready to shed! I did notice some “erasure dust” on my chin today. Hooooray!! Thx for messaging me, how kind of you to think of me!! Have a great Memorial Day!!! Hugs!!!!

Hi beautiful lady. You look great. I had glycolic peel a few years ago. I am thinking to have it again. How much did it cost? I wonder if doing it at a spa would be okay or should I go to a cosmetic surgeon' office. Thanks dear.
User Avatar
May 27, 2019
Hi Romansica! I just looked at your current profile pix and left you a comment on your facelift. You certainly look like you did 30 years ago!!!! Talk about turning back time!!! I’d do a glycolic peel only on my cosmetic surgeons office, but that’s just my personal preference. I feel more comfortable in any aesthetics procedure to have a very skilled doc or aesthetician do it. But, it’s up to you. I paid $130. She was amazing and spent time on my face! It was almost like a spa morning!!! Let me know if you decide on the surgeon performing it Good luck sweet kind lady. Hugs. Hugs. Hugs. Happy Memorial Day!!
