Hi all.
Well its now been 2 weeks since I had my op. I have had ups and downs in that time. I am now relatively pain free and have not took painkillers for 3 or 4 days now. Most of the bruising and swelling has gone but wounds are taking longer to heal than expected. I am taking an extra 3 or 4 days holiday from work to hopefully heal the wounds. The front of right ear and behind my left ear wounds have healed excellently. Unfortunately the left front and behind right ear wounds are taking longer to close up totally. I have been washing and spraying them with an antiseptic wash then applying Vaseline every day. I just have to be patient and they will heal. The only thing that has bothered me is the creasing behind my ears but they are getting less noticeable and I have been told they will disappear within a few months.
I am now at the stage where I am thinking if I actually had anything done as I`m used to what I see in the mirror. Your mind starts playing tricks on you.
I have uploaded before and after pics to compare.

The puckering behind the ear is not normal. I am not a doctor but I am quite certain that issue will not resolve by itself. It looks like the PS pulled to tautly which also may be the reason for 2 weeks of pain meds. I can not see the scaring in front of the other ear in the photo that you posted. BTW, anyone who tucks their chin under the way you have in the before and after photo is going to look like that. If they didn't they would not be able to turn their head.

Thanks for your concern but I had my follow up with doctor and surgeon tonight and he assured me the creases will flatten out over a little while. I have read that this is quite common with the short scar facelift as the incisions go behind the ear but not back into the scalp. If you read online you will be aware of this so I am not panicking. The doctor and surgeon are very happy with my healing so far and I am very happy with the subtle difference in my appearance.

You are correct Mark41. I will do the exact same as you this year and was told exactly what you stated above. Enjoy your impressive jawline.

i am learning a lot from this website. I guess I have never seen the technique you had before this so I have never seen that kind of puckering. But apparently it can and probably will flatten out. I stand corrected. And you should be happy with your results. You did not have much to fix on your young face so the change is subtle as a result. It is better not to have a dramatic change which apparently is the advantage of starting young.

yes Mark, the skin bunching behind ears is a frequent surgical technique plastic surgeons use in order to obtain a greater lifting effect. In most people without thicker skin (e.g. caucasians), this skin bunching flattens a great deal in time. Your incisions are making progress in the right direction, even though you'd prefer them to hurry up!

This is now a full week since my facelift. I had a check up today and the doctor said I am healing well and that the creases at the back of my ear are normal for the type of facelift I had(short scar) and that they will level out over time.
I asked about the pain and stiffness I get when I laugh or smile and I was told to start doing that more often to get the muscle working again and loosen it.
Thanks for all the support on here!

Hi Mark - after the lipo, were you asked to wear a compression bandage/face-neck bra? My partner also had lipo under the chin-neck, and at first the great chin-neck angle was apparent. However, around day 12 or 13 post-op, a double chin appeared! It feels like fluid rather than fat (fat can't appear suddenly). So, he has been told to apply compression by using a bandage or buying those face-neck bras. He is disappointed that this fluid appears now after making good progress over first 12 days postop. You'd expect fluid or swelling during the 1st week but for it to develop at the end of 2nd week suddenly has been disappointing.

No I wasn`t asked to wear anything under my chin. I did notice as my swelling went down my chin got a little more loose which I was told to expect. That seems very odd that has happened to your partner. Hopefully with wearing the compression harness it will clear up the fluid. Let me know how it goes. Good luck.

i heard that bunching behind the ear or folds is normal but go away after 2-3 months. Part of the give and take for makes with short scar. You have beautiful thick hair to hide it.

Yeah I heard that too. I`ve just got to be patient and hopefully they will settle down :)

I feel that I am fully in the healing phase now. As the week has went on pain has increased a little, as has bruising, now I feel bruising, swelling and pain is slowly all decreasing. I also feel that the wounds at the front of my ears are definitely getting better. The wounds at the back of my ears are bit lumpy and creased but I have swelling there and read lots of comments online that this is normal for behind the ears as they take longer to heal.
I will grow my hair longer to cover this and keep my beard for a little while to help hide the wounds and scars.

you have had a spectacular recovery. You don't look at all swollen or bruised. Did you take pain medication and did it help? Thank you so much for sharing.
December 29, 2014
Thanks :) I took paracetamol and diclofenac for pain relief. I am now taking just the paracetamol. just twice a day now, I think it did help, I also feel my pain is getting less now.
