43 Year Old Male - Short Scar Facelift with Chin Liposuction. - Glasgow, GB

ORIGINAL POST

Hi all, I wrote a journal last year on my eye...

Hi all,
I wrote a journal last year on my eye surgery and it helped keep me sane so I thought I`d write another for my short scar facelift and chin liposuction.
I have always had quite loose saggy skin, main reason I had my eyes done, and when I lost weight I noticed that my chin and jowls were still sagging. It wasn`t that noticeable to anyone but I knew in the future I`d want it fixed.
I thought, as with the eyes, I would do it now when it won`t be very noticeable more for prevention than a big change.
So I will update with pics and how I feel from day to day as I had read so many stories which have helped me.

Good job journaling the changes each day makes. I don't really understand the term "short scar" surgery. Your incisions look like they were placed very typically.

Hi, yeah its not that far from a full facelift, only difference is that my scar only goes up half way behind the ear where as in a full facelift the scar goes across into the back of the hair.

Hi.. Your stitches are neat... And fit in the correct places.. Can I ask you? Did you do any research before having your operation...
December 26, 2014
Yes I researched this website extensively. I also researched the plastic surgeon and had various consultations till I was happy to go ahead. It is important to look at pictures of the surgeon`s work to see if its what you would like.

I wanted t do a quick update.
The surgery went very easily, the sorest thing was the injections before the surgery. I was awake throughout and chatting to the surgeon at times.
When I went home on first night I never really slept because of the pain around my ears, thankfully this eased slightly the next morning as the swelling started to reduce.
I slept better last night and noticed the swelling has decreased today. I am still having some pain and discomfort around my ears but it is gradually easing.
Hopefully tomorrow, third day, I will feel less pain and less swelling.

Personally I wouldn't have thought you needed anything done, you looked great!! But wow your jaw line looks like it's going to be fantastic now!!! And I don't even see any bruising!! Did you take anything prior to surgery? Thanks!

Hi, thanks for the kind words. I had some sagging skin and jowls, nothing too serious but I wanted to do it before it would be noticeable. I never took anything before it, although after it I have took a lot of arnica and pineapple juice, icing the area regularly and eating very healthy with low salt. Thanks

Someone told me it felt like they cut her ears off and sewed them back on. Many people are very sore around the ears for a few months. It has to hurt! But you look like you are healing very nicely and quickly.

That actually sounds about right, it does feel like that, very uncomfortable pain at times, mainly if I`ve been sitting not moving for a while and then move, that's when the pain comes.

I have to give you kudos for being "awake" during the surgery - don't know how you did that. I can't imagine talking to my PS while he works on me - visions of me sneezing, coughing, etc. Kind of like when I go to the dentist when I always have a belching fit before I walk into the office. Guess it must be mind over matter. Congrats on your successful SX.

Thank you. It is surprisingly relaxing once you are lying there. The surgeon was telling me that the woman he operated on in the morning fell asleep lol.

Christmas update(3 days post surgery)

mark41glasgow
Just a quick update with 3 pics. I had a decent sleep last night. What I am finding is when I get up in the morning I am very sore and stiff. I have noticed this morning that the swelling is slowly decreasing and that I`m not getting too much bruising.
Merry Christmas to all :)

You look fabulous! More men should be doing this!
December 25, 2014
Thanks, most men probably aren`t that keen on doing it but you only live once so why not :)

Excellent work and you have beautiful thick hair to cover any scars. Natural and makes you have a more gentle look. Happier. Great price and excellent results. Thanks for sharing.

If you look close up... The stitches are done very good.. There Will be very minimal scares .. So he could have a very short hair cut..
December 27, 2014
Thanks, my only concern is the scars behind the ear, they don`t seem to be healing as well as the ones in front of the ear.

No one can see behind your ears anyway. Unless your ears stick out which apparently they do not.
December 25, 2014
You look great! How do you not swell and bruise? You are a crazy good healer! Did you take any supplements to speed the healing process?
December 25, 2014
Hi, thanks! I have little bruising under one ear which is hard to see in the pics. My face is actually still very swollen under my ears and my cheeks too. The swelling has gotten better since the first day though, hopefully I wont get anymore bruising now? I have been taking arnica tablets, antibiotics and painkillers. I have not been eating too much as its sore on the muscles, I`ve been mainly taking protein shakes and soup, and low salt helps with swelling.
December 26, 2014
Well you are doing great! When I get my mini lift someday I will mirror what you are doing. Good luck with the rest of your healing my friend.
December 26, 2014
Thanks midlife73. Are you going to get a mini lift in the near future?
December 26, 2014
I want to because I have developed premature jowling at the age of 41 which is depressing and infuriating. I am scared though so it will probably take me a few years to work up the courage.
December 26, 2014
I was the same, but I thought I`d do it early so that people wouldn`t notice, if you leave it too late it is more obvious. It has only been a few days but I don't have any regrets, don't be scared the worst part is the anaesthetic injections before the op, the actual op is pain free :)

The operation is pain free but what about the healing? Is that pain free? Doing it as young as you are is surprising to me, but then I see so many people that are very young on this website doing the same. It would never have occurred to me at that age but I did not have anything to repair at that tender young age :-) Now in my 60's I could REALLY use a lower face left and upper lid bleph. It makes perfect sense that the sooner it's done the less obvious it will be but I am so afraid of the recovery time and the pain associated with it. I've seen some pretty bad pictures on this website of people recovering and they look like a truck hit their face. Within just days you look normal in your pictures. That is probably because you did it so young and there was so much less cutting and muscle work needed. The more a person needs the more surgery involved.
December 26, 2014
Hi, The recovery isn`t pain free to be honest. I am only taking paracetamol pain killers so maybe taking something stronger would help. When I`m not moving about its fine, its just moving about when it gets sore which is understandable due to cutting of muscle etc. I am on day 4 and I went out to the shops today with a beanie hat on and my ears were sore and throbbing at the time but as soon as I got home my face felt a little less tight if that makes sense. If the pain of the recovery is putting you off then in my limited experience of it I would say it gets easier and I don`t regret it so far. It is certainly a pain I can cope with, hope this helps.

Someone said you look young and you do. That's because you are young! Oh, to be 43 again!!! :-)
December 26, 2014
Haha sometimes I don`t feel young, but thanks, time flies by doesn`t it.

What if the person does not have a thick head of hair? Then what?
December 26, 2014
Most men have enough hair to grow decent sideburns. I`m sure the plastic surgeon and yourself could discuss different options of where to place the scars, maybe at the crease along the ear!
User Avatar
December 26, 2014
Most men? I don't think so. The stitches are put along the ear regardless though. Aren't they.
December 26, 2014
I think most men are capable growing of growing sideburns lol. They can be put along the ear and also part of it can go slighty in the ear, and in my case along the sideburn. Maybe there are more options, I`m no expert.

Sideburns become closer to ear. Problematic for some as the sideburns grow towards ear. Give and take. Need the short scar and most men no scars in hairline.
December 27, 2014
I agree, its all about your preference of where you want the scars placed.
