Fabulous! I am so happy for you and your skin looks incredible. Thank you for keeping us updated on your progress, your results are encouraging for others looking for an acne solution.

I too, teach teens and my skin is worst than most of theirs! Lol. Im 44 an have been dealing with cystic acne my whole life. It's recently gotten a lot worse, and I've just been put on this med. I must be having the initial flare-up. I just Googled how long it until it becomes effective and saw your post. Glad to see its working for you! Decrease in facial hair?
Awesome! I started two weeks ago and i'm going through a nasty initial breakout but hoping it works. I'm a teacher too.

UPDATE - I've been on Spiro for four months now and I have notice big changes and improvements!

I have an occasional zit, but not at all like it was four months ago. I did have the initial outburst of acne, but about two weeks, it went away. Weight gain is minimal, but I think that comes from the holidays!

Hi, thanks for your review. I just started this meducation today and am terrified of weight gain! I'm 47 and lost 45 pounds not long ago. B is rather have acne than be fat again! How's the weight gain issue for you at this point?
It's been a struggle a little keeping it off. Haven't gained it all back, but I've gained about 15 pounds. Ugh
ORIGINAL POST

I had no clue what was going on with my 41-year...

I had no clue what was going on with my 41-year old skin. I've never suffered from acne. I inherited great genes from my mother. Her and her sisters are beautiful, hardly wrinkle, and flawless skin. I always received compliments about my skin. I didn't need make-up/foundation (I was told that by a make-up artist with her own make-up line!!!) Until, the last year!!!!! I'm sure my acne is not as bad as most, because I don't feel like staying in the house like I hear most say, but it was still embarrassing. Here I am 41, walking around, teaching 13 and 14 year old students with acne, and I have two or three big zits too!!!! I finally decided to go to the dermatologist....my appointment was today. She was explaining to me, all about high testosterone. She also noticed my hair on my chin. She prescribe Spiro. She told me to research it when I got home and explained it is used for HBP, but can also be used for this type of acne. The acne has left scars on my cheeks and chin so I now wear plenty of foundation everyday to help cover the scars... (I just went out and purchase various kinds)! I am excited about finally getting some help! I'm anxious about the weigh gain though, because I've fought so hard to lose 35 pounds over the course of two years!!!! And I don't want to gain any weight. I also am afraid of the "initial shock" acne outburst, so I am hoping and praying, those side effects won't affect me! (join me in prayer, lol). My derm has me on 50 Mg for the first week and then 100 Mg after that. She told me to give it about two months, but hopefully, I will see positive results quicker than that. I'm not on BCP, but I do have a Mirena IUD, which I read can cause acne (but I've had it for several years without the problem). I will post my updates!

Thanks for taking the time to share, I look forward to your updates - good luck!
Thank you for sharing this and for the update! I am 40 years old and have never had acne (mostly cystic acne) problems until the last 2.5 years, which started about 3-4 months after I had the Mirena inserted. I had it removed in January, but I am still dealing with acne issues. I was considering going back on the pill to help correct this but was afraid of gaining weight. I read about Spironolactone and googled it to get more information, and stumbled upon your post. You wrote that you were concerned about gaining weight, and so I was wondering if that ever became an issue? Do you still get an occasional breakout or are you pretty much all cleared up now? Thanks!
Just started this medication bur unsure on what all the side effects are Weight GAIN?? I just lost right @ 40lbs due to getting off other drugs and the side effects of those!!!
