2 Years Post Chin Implant Removal + Genioplasty, 1 Year 2 Months Post Revision

Now that it's been about 2 years since my original procedure, and a little over 1 year since my revision I wanted to share some of my thoughts.

Overall has there been improvement from my natural face or even the chin implant? Definitely. My projection is a lot better and I'd say the length of my chin was marginally improved. So in that sense I'd say the procedure was "worth it."

However, I'm still not in love with my chin. Like I said, in terms of chin height, the improvement was marginal at best. I still have a weird lump/step off that's especially prominent on the right side of my chin (I've tried reaching out to my doctor about this but unfortunately haven't gotten a response). $13k is a hard pill to swallow for a chin I'm not all that happy with.

That being said, as someone who has now had a few surgeries, here are the things I wish I knew beforehand:

1. Make sure the surgery you want is actually the surgery you need. The majority of the surgeries I have had have been to address what I now know is an issue with the development of my jaw. I should have had jaw surgery years ago. Instead I've put thousands of dollars towards essentially masking the issue and, to be frank, I still don't look great because at the end of the day it's my jaw that's the problem and that's never been addressed.

2. Be very clear with your surgeon about what you want. I kind of just assumed my surgeon had the same vision as me. Ideally I would have spent more time discussing the specifics of what I was looking for and making sure I was on the same page as my surgeon.

3. Be realistic about what's possible. Like I said, I was seeking results that I probably needed jaw surgery to actually achieve. Plastic surgery doesn't necessarily mean you're going to have a whole new face, results can be more subtle than you'd expect.

4. Recovery takes time. When you google "genioplasty recovery time" you'll get sources telling you it takes 2 weeks. You might be ready to renter the world in 2 weeks but it takes much, much longer to be fully healed. I was still crazy swollen at the 1 month mark and it probably wasn't until the 3 month mark that things really settled. Some people say they've seen subtle changes out to a year and beyond.

4. Surgery is not just physically difficult, it's mentally difficult too. It's weird and anxiety-provoking to see your face massively swollen and bruised. It's easy to obsess over every little change or get freaked out that what you look like 2 weeks out is what you're going to look like forever. Be prepared to have ups and downs and try to take your mind off things as much as possible.

Hopefully this helps someone else out there and well wishes to anyone currently recovering from their surgery!

As you can see things still look very similar to what they have the past couple months, and even to the before. Still really hard for me to see a difference, personally, so at this point I sort of question what was even done during the revision. I'm holding out hope that there's still swelling/scar tissue, but I know from last time that the changes after the 2.5 month mark were pretty minimal.

Some progress pics. I'm still unsure what to think of my results at this point. My chin still seems very large and round to me, and it's hard for me to see any difference compared to before the revision. Some days at some angles things seem somewhat improved but as you can see from my wish pic I'm still nowhere close to what I was hoping to achieve getting the bone shaved down further. Feeling pretty bummed right now :(
