Specialist Registered Plastic Surgeon

Overall rating

To give a little bit of background, I originally had my SRS (I believe GCS/GRS are now also commonly used terms) at the age of 19, approximately 8 years ago. I am choosing not to name my original surgeon, as I feel he did an absolutely amazing job and I will forever be in debt to him for changing my life. The recovery from my original procedure was faultless, but I was quite conscious of the fact that my vagina was quite 'open' looking; the introitus (vaginal opening) in particular was quite wide. I returned to my original surgeon just over a year after my initial procedure to seek a revision and correct my concerns. Unfortunately, after several months of healing my vaginal opening still appeared quite exposed and open, and I was now left with a new (and quite bad) scar down my perineum, which if anything left me even more conscious than I was in the first place. I just want to emphasis that this is no criticism of my original surgeon, I truly feel that he did his best to correct my concerns but, perhaps in this case, this 'fine tuning' revisionary work was a little out of his expertise. Several years later, I had almost tried to accept the fact that this was the way my genitals were going to look, try to be happy and accept myself the way I am, get on with life etc. That is, until I first saw Mr Inglefield on the TV show 'Celebrity Botched Up Bodies' where he revised a young woman's GCS surgery that had been completed on the NHS (to clarify, my surgery was not completed on the NHS). I was quite impressed with the results of this revision and subsequently went on to do some research on Mr Inglefield and his clinic. On further investigation I found that Mr Inglefield was actually very experienced in GCS revision and actually completed GCS surgery himself! At the age of 27 and fast approaching 28, I decided that life was too short to waste time worrying about such silly things, so I made the decision to book a consultation. The clinic itself is absolutely beautiful, and a short (5-10 min walk) from either Oxford Circus or Bond Street tube stations, very conveniently located. On arrival I was greeted very sweetly by a receptionist named Lucy, who asked me to fill out some registration forms and made me a coffee. The warm welcome was very gladly received, as I already felt quite embarrassed to be here about my bits and pieces and knew I would inevitably be showing them to the surgeon in due course! Once my forms were completed, a nurse named Phyllis greeted me and escorted me to my consultation. I think she could sense that I was nervous, as she was very chatty, asking me whether I found the clinic OK, am I prepared for xmas etc. It sounds silly but these little touches are very reassuring, as it broke down the formality of the whole thing and made me feel like a friend rather than a patient. On entering Mr Inglefield's office, he stood up and came to greet me personally. We had a chat about my previous surgeries, my transition in general, basically getting him up to speed, and he asked if he could please examine me. Phyllis, the nurse guided me to a partitioned area and directed me to take off the lower half of my clothing, and provided a towel to cover myself up. It is worth mentioning that I am a healthcare professional myself, so I am well aware that all these embarrassing bits where you have to expose parts of your body can feel a bit like your dignity has gone out the window, but that was far from the case in this instance. Mr Inglefield examined me and agreed that my introitus was very wide, which gave a very exposed appearance to my overall vulva. A great touch was that I was actually handed a mirror and he was physically showing me where any planned incisions would be, how it could potentially look following a revision etc. Having a visual reference as we were discussing potential changes was very beneficial for my own reference. To summarise my consultation, Mr Inglefield concluded that my concerns were valid, that he felt they could certainly be improved, but would I REALLY appreciated was that he said we could expect about an 80% improvement. I loved his honest approach and the fact that my expectations were realistically managed. I was told to expect a quotation via email the following day (I actually received it the same day; efficient!) and if I had any further queries or concerns, Phyllis would be my patient coordinator and would be in touch. After some discussion with a close friend I have decided to bite the bullet and go for it! I called the clinic the next day to pay a 25% deposit in order to secure my surgery date. Lucky for me, a patient had cancelled and so I managed to get a slot within 2-3 weeks, but was made aware at the time of my consultation that usual waiting times are normally 6-8 weeks in advance.
