Gastric Sleeve Surgery

WORTH IT$4,500
I've struggled with maintaining weight loss my entire adult life. I'm 40 this year and have had 2 children in my earlier 30. Both times my weight increased and then I worked hard to loss the extra. But when your body is use to being over weight it becomes harder to keep it off. It's called a set point and once you've increased it for a certain amount of time your body fights you to keep it there. I'm 5'3 and weigh at surgery and most of my 30s was 220. I've been healthy my whole life. I workout I eat a typical Canadian diet, fruits, veggies, meat, carbs about 80% of the time and junk about 20%. I've done restrictive diets that work very well for me. I'm actually very pro Keto and intermittent fasting. I do believe that it works and can be very beneficial. I have had success with the combination however I've gone through some stressful situations and have very little support and the constant brain power it requires for me to maintain my healthy lifestyle is not possible. I feel like most of the day and night is spent on regret and starting over with meal prep, workout plans, water intake and the list goes on. So I've made the decision to have the sleeve done. I'm writing this on day 3 of recovery. I had the procedure done in Antalya Turkey I'm from Canada. My sisters in laws live here and she was able to be here with me. Which was the reason I chose Turkey over Mexico. Flight and cost of procedure was $4500 us which includes 4 nights in a beach side hotel (Mediterranean Sea) and 3 nights in private room hospital. All transportation and drinks for after procedure were also included. You could book the hotel for an extended stay which would be nice if I didn't stay with family. The hardest part was the language barrier. My account manager was able to translate a lot for me and I did use my phone in cases that he was not there. But the test before surgery where all done within 2 hours. Not remotely possible in Canada and if I was approved the cost was $20000.00 Canadian which would have required approximately 1-2 years of meetings with doctors dietitian and I wasn't wasting any more time. If I was to go through insurance it would have been a comparable price to what I paid in Turkey but a wait time of 5 or so years due to meetings and test and diet trials etc. I'm sure I would have been met with so much resistance from the medical community that I would have just given up. The other thing that I assume is that they don't give you very strong pain medication after surgery unless you request it. So I did have a lot of gas pain and pressure once I woke up and was nauseated. But expected. The surgery was at 930 and done at 11 the rest of the day was pretty hellish. I did get morphine but it increased the nausea. I was in a lot of pain I would say an 8-9. It felt like birth contractions but without the release I was also starting my period which was likely why my pain tolerance was much lower. I did feel like getting sick a lot which I did and it hurt too as I was using stomach muscles but very little came out when I did get sick and felt better and able to rest once I did get sick. But day 2 and day 3 were much better. I was walking on day one but slowly I think just because of lack of energy. Day 2 and 3 much more moving. Drinking on day 2 in the afternoon was a bit hard. I'd swallow air a bit and cause gas. I'm use to drinking lots of water like 3 litres a day. So drinking water is one of the cons of the surgery for me. I'm worried that on a hot day I won't be able to down a cold glass of water. But baby steps I guess. So I'm currently sipping water, apple juice, and protein drinks. I will post photos of my before and after surgery. I also wanted to mention that my pre diet surgery was nothing like I expected. I've read all kinds of people on a 2 week liquid diet. My only requirement was lower food intake reduce sugar, carbs and fatty foods. And on the day before tests and surgery no food or drinks including water after midnight that was it!!! Which was a nice surprise. The hospital was extremely clean, always someone cleaning the rooms on my floor, lots of nurses and hospital staff, which surprised me as in Canada we are in such lack of. Had free wifi the whole time there was a chair pulled out into a bed for my sister to sleep on the first night and they brought her food and drinks. The surgeon was in to see me every day asking how I was feeling and said my surgery went very well no issues and was very happy with my progress. He's added me to Facebook for progress updates and to answer questions. I still have access to my case manager through WhatsApp for as long as required.
