how long did he say it would take to see results?

Hi HairAgainNow,
Results depend on how many viable hair follicles you have, when during your hair growth/shed cycle you are at the time of treatment, and how you respond to treatment. Based on these variables, visible results can appear anywhere from 1 month to several months, with full results anywhere from 1 year to 15 months. We monitor our patients' progress at the first month, 3rd month, and every 3 months after that until 15 months, so I am committed to all our patients' success with the treatment.
March 4, 2017
Hi Sir ,
With what you have said he should start seeing positive changes by now , why is the treatment still taking time to show results.
March 6, 2017
For some it might show results in 3 months, for some 6 , for some 12 months. Thats what they said.

PRP therapy for hair loss is a treatment that involves withdrawing a patient's own blood, processing it so that only the enriched cells (platelet-rich plasma) remain, and injecting it into the scalp. prp contains essential proteins that stimulate natural hair growth.

Can we get an update man? I'm really curious if this will work or not. I don't think it will but I would love to be proven wrong.
April 20, 2017
Hi ,
So far there is no improvement i have seen. I am waiting to pass thorugh 6 months and 12 months to see if its really gonna work ....
May 1, 2017
Do you think your hairloss stopped at least and shedding less or no hair?
May 4, 2017
When compared to the day i went for treatment, now i have less hair for sure. I have a video which was taken by me when i am going for treatment and when i compare that to my current pic, i lost hair.. So far i dont see any growth.
April 19, 2017
so no improvements huh? Would you recommend this to others? and how many treatments did you do?
April 20, 2017
Hi Heyrefs, So far I didnt see any new growth or Improvement. I am not in a position to recommend as they said it might take 6-12 or 15 months to see result. They will do only one treatment at first and after 12 or 15 months if they see some growth coming then they might give you another treatment. Thats what they said.

Update After 6 months - I dont see any change. When compared to the day i went to treatment, i lost more hair. You can see in below pics. As they said it might take upto 12 months to see change, not sure what to do other than waiting. In previous update pics, I shaved my head and its growing. Now as you can see in this pic, i havent done hair cut so I can cover the lost part using grown hair by combing sidewards. SO FAR NO CHANGE OR GROWTH.

Hi LookingforHairRegrowth,
We will continue monitoring your progress with your follow up appointments to track your progression. We are not a practice where we're done after your treatment, we show our concern and commitment with follow ups. Hope to see you back in our office soon for your next periodic follow up and we can review your results and discuss your concerns one-one-one.

Hi, Doctor. Im looking forward to this treament with you. But I would kindly ask to respond t my question here. First, why with this person to show result is taking so long? Also, I have seen your videos and read your comment and you have claimed that you have performed this treatmend hudresd of times however you only show pictures of the same people. Am i right, people? Beside, what about the second treatment after 15 motnhs, is it only if the person show any hair growth ? It shouldnt be also if the person do not show any sign of growth so that the second treatmen may have some effect? The affect that this person is claiming that he was told that only is he show any growth he would be a second treatment, we could all infer that this treatment is not 100 percent that it may work for everybody. Please, respond to my questions, Im sure hundreds of desperate people come to visit and our answer is very important for their decision on which treatment to follow. Thanks

Hi aloli,
Thanks for your questions. The time it takes for a patient's individual response depends on where they are in the hair growth cycle because thinning hair needs to go through it's regular hair shedding cycle before it can be replaced with thicker hair. This takes as little as 1-3 months in some patients, and some need as long as 12-15 months.

As for the examples, we do have more patient before and after examples of any other practice that uses the PRP+extracellular matrix by ACell treatment. With respect to our patients, we do need their permission to use their photos, and some do not wish to have their photos featured, even if their faces are not shown. Some people really don't want to it known they've had a procedure, and we respect that. We even have other doctors stealing pictures of our results and claiming them as our own.

The second treatment is done for people who had dying hair follicles that were not growing at all, and they were saved by the first treatment. These follicles went from no hair growth at all, to fine hair growth after the first treatment, so we do a second treatment at no additional charge to thicken these hairs. So it's not because it wasn't effective the first time, but it was more effective than anticipated on smooth bald areas where the hair follicles were not dead, but dying and brought back to life.

I hope these details about the treatment clarify things for you.

Hi aloli,
Not to influence your decision, but this is not the only review of the Hair Regeneration treatment on RealSelf. We do have other reviews on RealSelf about the Hair Regeneration treatment.
May 12, 2017
Hi amiya prasad!

I have looked at the other reviews and only 7% of your reviews on this web page are reated to prp, and from that only one has been a success and manily becuase that guy had a head full of hair and was thining in the front. There are two other reviews who are waiting to see result. As a coincidence they havent seen any result within 3 month so they are waiting to see it from the 12- 15 months. There is other guy who has done previously hair transpalnt and claimed it really worked on him. However, he has not uploaded any picture that makes his story believable. And there is one guy who did not idenftify himself or give any exra information and say its a total scam. Im not doubting of your integrity but you have claimed it works on 99% os the people but out of the 7% reviews related to prp acell, not even half has seen result yet. Can you explain why if it doesnt work after 3 month, one has to wait up to 12-15 months to see result. Is there any other webpages where we can find people testimony with their successes with these treatments? because the data available here its clearly not enough. As as I said I am not doubting your integrity as doctor but me, and hundreds of people are desperate looking into some solid evidence that goes beyond the one you showed. So far, the testimony of people here are not sufficient.
July 10, 2017
Hey, aloli. Do not fall for this scam. You said you come from a working class family, so i'm guessing you don't have money to burn, just like me. I've been a long-time lurker on countless forums and i can safely assure you that this doctor and his regeneration therapy are just a big lie. If you really want to give your hair a chance, get on proven treatments like finasteride and minoxidil (i'm on both and spend around 50 usd monthly), save up for a transplant with a good surgeon and keep fighting. Your 5000 can be much better spent.

Could not agree more. If you can afford the experiment than do so otherwise stay away.
October 14, 2018
I heard prp contains DHT and testosteron and there is no dokter ho can can give me a good explanation some say its only a small amount and some say its seperated from the prp, I had 2prp sessions 5 weeks apart for my hairline and now 3months later my hairline is become much thinner, I read a lot of bad experiences with prp!!
May 15, 2017
that really sucks man, hope you see results soon or I think the only thing you and the doc should be discussing is a refund. I wouldn't let him keep injecting you with shots in hopes of "eventually" seeing results. I canceled my appointment w dr. Prasad when things just didn't add up to a level I felt comfortable with. I know certain docs are saying this is a promising procedure, but it seems like it's a long way from being proven true. Not a doctor though, so I'm not sure what's fact and what's fiction.

Hi deetsinthehouse,
Sorry to hear you cancelled your appointment. We don't "keep injecting" as this is not PRP treatment. The treatment is done once, and we follow progress regularly for 15 months, and then decide if a second treatment is needed. You should realize that hair grows and sheds in a cycle, and thinning hair does need to shed before thicker hair from the treatment can grow in. I also hope you look into other reviews on RealSelf (one just came in yesterday) for the Hair Regeneration treatment. Not trying to influence your decision as it is yours to make, but you are basing it on one review, when there are far more positive reviews and results of this treatment on this website alone.
May 16, 2017
Refering to the one that just came yesterday. That guy had 3 session of prp acell. Why is hat some doctors are giving more session whereas your are only offering one session? What is the difference?
User Avatar
May 16, 2017
Hi aloli,
The gentleman who wrote the review of me and Hair Regeneration yesterday was only treated once.

I think the more appropriate question is why other doctors offer three sessions instead of just one. It's important to know that I've been administering PRP and extracellular matrix for hair loss since 2011, so I am the pioneer of this treatment - other doctors are trying to follow what I'm doing. I also have more patients treated with this, and more examples (you can refer to some here https://www.realself.com/find/New-York/New-York-City/Oculoplastic-surgeon/Amiya-Prasad#photos and filter "Hair loss treatment"). All the patients featured in these images, and in my videos, were only treated once.

The difference between Hair Regeneration and other treatments are the algorithm and experience with working with extracellular matrix by ACell, and PRP. I worked with extracellular matrix by ACell before I developed the hair loss treatment, and it is known to be difficult to work with, which is why many doctors don't offer it, those who do offer it need multiple sessions, and only Hair Regeneration lasts more than five years.

I understand with your past comments that you are skeptical, but if you are serious about this treatment, I can safely say I have the most experience, and more importantly, the most satisfied patients with it. Although "LookingforHairRegrowth" has still not seen his results, some of the patients featured in the photos are results shown at 7, 9, and 12 months after treatment, and he hasn't reached this period yet. Also, he is still being periodically monitored by our office for results, as all our patients are after this treatment. I hope this clarifies things for you.
May 16, 2017
Do the results last just as long for the female patients you have treated?
User Avatar
May 17, 2017
Hi DBG123,
Yes, results do last as long for female pattern hair loss. We have yet to see any patient who needed treatment again because they have sustained thicker hair growth.

It is important to diagnose the cause of hair loss, particularly for women. Women have more potential cause of hair loss than men. If you are diagnosed with female pattern hair loss, the Hair Regeneration treatment has a similar success rate as with male pattern hair loss. I hope this clarifies things for you.
May 17, 2017
Thank you that is very helpful.

Although I haven't had a biopsy done, it looks as though I do have AGA as per several doctor's opinions and I believe my hair loss accelerates with stress triggers and hormones.

Whenever I noticed increased shedding my DHEA-S level was slightly elevated (around 11, while the upper limit is around 9.2). All other hormones was have been normal. I've been advised to go back on Spironolactone, since it has helped decrease (possibly stop) the shedding.

If I get this treatment done, do you believe I will continue to experience hair shedding due to the slightly elevated DHEA-S? Will I benefit from PRP with Acell given that scenario.

I don't want to be on Spironolactone forever. I have been off for at least 6 years or longer and have had 2 pregnancies during that time period.

Thanks again!

Hi DBG123,
Your information is certainly helpful. We have treated many patients successfully with similar conditions, and managed to get them off spironolactone. However, I would still need to do a examination of your scalp before saying with certainty that this is the right procedure for you, as it we can't do it through comments on any sites. We can discuss it through formal consultation at one of my offices, or also one-on-one with me on Skype. Appointments can be set through the contact forms on RealSelf or contact forms on my websites. I hope to hear from you soon!

Thank you Dr. Prasad.

I live in Toronto and will be coming down to NYC for a consult + procedure same day if I'm hopefully a candidate.
I've narrowed my choices to 2 doctors (yourself and a female hair restoration specialist who is well-known in the field).

A few questions...
1) Does hair loss need to be stabilized for the procedure to be effective?? I'm currently losing anywhere from 100-200 hairs daily. I'm 16 months post-partum and am definitely passed the post-partum shedding timeframe.
2) What would classify a female as a poor candidate for this procedure? And what would make a female a good candidate for this procedure?
3) How thorough of a scalp examination do you conduct during the consultation?
4) I've been told I have AGA. Does having TE as well pose a problem?

Thanks again. I'm in the midst of figuring out my schedule so I can fly down to NY this June/July and am having a hard time figuring the right choice for me.

May 29, 2017
Hi DBG123,
1) The Hair Regeneration procedure is the stabilizing treatment if your hair loss is due to pattern hair loss. The treatment is not for telogen effluvium, but telogen effluvium is temporary shedding due to stress, which can correct itself with time
2) Women with pattern hair loss are excellent candidates for the procedure, but other causes of hair loss not
3) We do a full microscopic exam of your scalp, examine the hair thinning and loss in your scalp, and identify areas where the treatment would be most beneficial. We can do a full workup if necessary, as review any hair loss history, current medications, and timing since pregnancy.
4) The Hair Regeneration treatment is primarily for androngeic/androgenetic alopecia. It is best for telogen effluvium to run its course before treatment, but we can take it into consideration.

You can arrange for a video consultation through Skype prior to the appointment to save you some time and effort. Cost of consultation can be applied to your treatment cost.

I hope this clarifies things for you.
June 2, 2017
Thank you. I'm in the midst of setting up a Skype consult with Ania for the 3rd week in June as you are all booked up until then. My main concern is losing more time by waiting for the Skype consult and then having to book and wait for the treatment, which I'm assuming will take another month.

Although, I'm a little confused about what would be achieved through a Skype consult. Would you be able to tell at the time of the Skype consult if I'm a good candidate and if I have AGA/Female pattern hair loss?

Do you treat/inject the full scalp? Do you also apply microneedling techniques? I heard that some forms of anesthesia can cause shock loss, such as the use of a ring block and epinephrine...has that happened with any of your patients and what was the outcome - just wondering what to expect in that sense? Lastly I heard there may be some unwanted side effects from using Acell - is that true?
User Avatar
June 6, 2017
Hi DBG123,
We will go through your family history to establish a genetic cause of hair loss, go through some of your old pictures to establish progression, and at least get an overview of your scalp to look for signs of pattern hair loss.

The whole scalp is treated with the Hair Regeneration technique. I generally prefer to use injections rather than microneedling as it is more targeted. We use an injectable and topical anesthetic for the treatment, and neither causes shock loss. The treatment may induce some shedding of thinning hair so thicker hair grows in its place.

There are no unwanted side effects associated with ACell's extracellular matrix. The only side effects expected is some tenderness in the scalp a day after the treatment, but this usually only lasts 24-48 hours, and is not overly uncomfortable or painful. I hope this clarifies things for you.

Dr. Prasad - thanks so much for answering my questions.

I've gradually started a ketogenic diet recently. Not so much for weight loss (though I would be happy to trim down), but more so because it seems to have positive long-term effects on overall health. I've read that many people experience hair shedding about 3-4 months into this diet - which is my main apprehension. Would you advise against this given the fact that I likely have AGA? Is this something I should avoid generally? Avoid just before PRP? After PRP?

I don't want to risk making the situation worse while I'm trying to improve it.

I am taking a high-quality pre-natal vitamin, 2000 iu of vitamin D, just started an iron supplement and vitamin C. I am currently breastfeeding 1-2/daily as well...

I look forward to our consult.

Thanks again!

Hi DBG123,
Any change in diet may be recognized as a stressor by the body, which can react with hair shedding, but this is temporary, and not hair loss. I don't think a change in diet will be factor in your treatment, but we can discuss this further during your consultation.

Looking forward to meeting with you! All the best.

Hello Mr Prasad. I had a few questions about this treatment. The first question is that will I need to take finasteride with this treatment or can it maintain growth and stop progression of hair loss on its own? I am 19 and I do not want to mess with my hormones, so I have decided to not take finasteride just for the sake of better mind. As I am 19, my hair loss is in its quite early stages with major thinning only on left temple area while my right temple area is much stronger. Will the injections be throughout the scalp tho since I suspect I may have a bit of diffuse hair loss throughout the scalp. Thank you for reading, looking forward to your reply.
