60th Birthday Present To Me - Upper Bleph - Gainesville, FL

ORIGINAL POST

After seeing another review on RealSelf for Dr....

WORTH IT$1,950
After seeing another review on RealSelf for Dr. Sadove in Gainesville, Florida, I went for a consultation and booked my appointment for Thursday. Dr. Sandove is running a RealSelf special for upper eye Blepharoplasty for $1950. I'm posting a photo showing two images of myself. The one on the left is from 2014 very relaxed. The one on the right is a month ago and if you will notice that I have raised my eyebrows to minimize the hooded look. A surprise look and a smile is the cheapest cosmetic trick out there! I'm hoping with my upcoming surgery, I can just be myself (lol) and not have to appear "surprised" all the time. Hoping that my final results will look comparable to the second photo. Wish me luck!

Dr. Sadove recommended no aspirin or blood thinning supplements, etc. for three weeks before hand. I also started Arnica x6 today to see if it will help to minimize swelling and bruising after surgery. Getting a bit nervous, but comfortable in my choice of doctors.

I'm sure the eyes will be a breeze for you after having your breasts done, Susan! I may go for a mini facelift if I ever get brave enough. Maybe having my eyes done will give me the courage I need. Thanks for your message and compliment! =)

I'm home, surgery went well, only had the IV sedation for the injections, they did give me something to relax me:-)) I was awake but comfortable. They did place a shield under my eyelids during the procedure to protect my eye. I have allot of swelling in the upper lid. No post op pain so haven't taken any pain meds. I return tomorrow afternoon for a follow up. They did give me eye shields to tape over my eyes when I'm sleeping. I'll be thinking of you tomorrow, good luck, I'm sure you won't regret your decision. I look forward to your updates.

So happy to hear your surgery went well and so far very little pain. Surprised they have a follow up for the next day as mine will be when I go to have the stitches removed, six days from surgery. Gosh... They are planning on giving me a valium and then the injections....no IV. Perhaps that's why the price is low. But as long as I can take the "bee stings" near the eyes, I should be okay. (yikes). Thank you for writing!

Wondering how you are doing? I had my follow up appointment yesterday, the doctor did good eye exam, checked swelling, cleaned sutures, in general just checked that all was going well. Perhaps he does the next day follow up because he is an ocular plastic surgeon?? Sutures come out next Wednesday. Still have swelling but I'm expecting this to be the worse day for swelling. He said I need to tape the eye shields on each night at bedtime so I don't accidentally rub my eye and disrupt the sutures.

haha...thank you Gail. yea, the surprised look was very surprised =) I'll do a before and after in a couple weeks using the one on the left and another relaxed pose like that one, so the before and the after's are better to see. Thanks for your feedback.

Review and Updated Pics...Upper Eye Bleph

Went in for surgery yesterday. All in all a really good experience. A valium and numbing gel before the lidocaine injections. (ask for the numbing gel...some doctors don't generally use it, but I found it very, very helpful to ease the injections).

The doctor had me sit on the side of the bed and he very carefully marked my eyes, after much evaluating. When I said please take as much as you can, Dr. Sadove said, "not too much, not too little". I really liked that. Looking at the marked up areas in the mirror it looked like it was a big area he was planning to excise. I was surprised -- and glad. =)

There were probably 4-5 pricks with the needle on each eyelid. Barely noticeable, maybe two that stung a bit, but the numbing gel really helped. The surgery did not last that long, maybe an hour or less. Could not feel anything. Afterwards, when I looked in the mirror I was pleasantly surprised. Adding two photos. The close up of the lids closed is about three hours after surgery. The other pic is this morning, the morning after. The lids are red and swollen. No pain to speak of. Pleasantly surprised. No pain relief needed this morning, but I need to slow down as I feel so good that I'm afraid I'm not resting enough. I was reprimanded by my sister and another friend. Okay. Will take it easier after this post.

Looking forward to having the stitches removed. I'm sure there will be a lot of itching coming in the next few days, more bruising, but it will be SO worth it. More photos later. =)

You look great, your swelling doesn't look bad for the day after surgery. I had more swelling the day after with some bruising below my eyes. I think you will be very pleased with your outcome.

I agree with the other comment. Your swelling looks minimal. I had more bruising that came out days after the surgery (I thought I was going to get away without any because I didn't have any the first days), so anyway don't be alarmed if you get some bruising that happens days later even under the eyes. I was very happy with my results after the stitches came out. And I used Mederma scar gel as soon as the Dr told me I could, to minimize the scars. Good luck!

Thanks...I'm taking the Arnica, but not as many as I should. I'm pretty sure I'm going to bruise, but the color of bruises doesn't hurt....and for that I am thankful =)

I had my sutures removed today, piece of cake. My lids are still a little swollen and bruised but overall looking good, I'm happy with my result. I have another follow up appointment in 3 weeks. Hope you are progressing with your recovery and are pleased with your results.

Stitches out yesterday. 5 Days post. Happy =)

I had the upper bleph done last Thursday. Been applying ice cold washrag four or so times a day. No pain meds needed. The nurse said I didn't need an antiobiotic cream and that I shouldn't put anything on my eyes, but I did use a little coconut oil every so often to try and keep the area around the eye moisturized. Yesterday (Tuesday) the stiches were removed by Dr. Sandove. Ouch. I think the worst part of the whole procedure. Pick a surgeon who does continuous stitching with minimal knots. The few knots I had were pretty uncomfortable coming out. Dr. Sandove's stitches were very uniform and even. Which I liked! I've seen a few on here where the stitching could have been much better.

All in all, I'm very happy with the results, but expect the swelling to go down since it's only been six days since surgery. So the lid area should be smaller, but I will be happy regardless, I don't think I had any bruising since the surgery. The lid was very red and swollen and below my eyes I've had puffiness. But I push myself more than I should and I don't know if it's from that or just general puffiness from the trauma. I am in excellent shape and eat well so maybe that's why everything went so smoothly. Just thinking aloud. Two weeks and Dr. Sandove wants to see me again. I'm sure he will want a photo for his portfolio! =)

Took two more photos today to show the difference a day after stitch removal. Yesterday it was hard to smile and today feeling much better and a very bright outlook on the future. More inclined to wear my hair up for the summer!

I just checked your most recent photo without the sutures, your eyes look great, your surgeon did an amazing surgery for you. My eyes look very similar to yours at this stage, I'm sure you will enjoy your new refreshed look:-))

Thank you for that! Having the right doctor makes all the difference. I've seen several upper blephs on here where it looked like the doctor didn't remove enough skin. I would love to see how your eyes turned out! =)
