History
I'm a 36yr old mother of 3, 5'4" and 123lbs. With every pregnancy, my belly button and diastasis recti has gotten worse. I could see a wide gap in my abdominal wall by laying down and flexing slightly. I think I made this separation worse by doing planks while pregnant. My belly button basically became detached from my abdomen wall, leaving me with a stretched out outie.
I had 2 consults with highly reviewed board certified plastic surgeons in Las Vegas before choosing one whom I thought would give me the best belly button, based on online photos. It was a bonus that he did not charge extra for the muscle or hernia repair.
Belly button
I mentioned the belly button during the consult, but it was only moments before surgery when the doctor set my expectations of my belly button. He said that it would not be an innie and it would be flat. He was right; so far it has turned out flat. I'm only just over 2 weeks post op and still healing, but I don't think that outcome will change much.
Scar location
During our brief consultation the doctor said that he would make my scar lower than my c-section scar. I was surprised at that because my c-section scar was incredibly low. He was correct, my scar is technically lower on the skin. Where my scar currently sits is much higher than my original scar, however. It currently looks weird as if I've had a vagina lift. I'm hoping everything will settle as the swelling subsides and my skin isn't so tight. I don't think there's anything my doctor could have done better since, my guess is, the lifting is a result of removing so much skin. It makes sense that it would pull in both directions.
There's no doubt that my stomach is already looking improved and will look tons better when totally healed. Something that would have helped me through the anxiety of recovery though is having my expectations set ahead of time and concerns addressed regarding my belly button and my scar location.
One thing I've learned is that if you don't have much belly fat to begin with, your belly button is likely to look flat. I just want to help anyone else out there going through the same thing.

3 week PO: Healing and wound issues
VegasMomOf3August 15, 2019
I don't know what exactly is going on with my wound. It started separating a week ago. It looked so gross and scary, I didn't want to post pics. This is actually a major improvement. I had scabs or possibly dead tissue or necrosis that came off and new tissue seems to be filling in the wound separation areas. I've seen others with similar healing problems and it took them a long time to heal. I heard this problem can be a result of over-tightening, lack of good blood supply to the area, or the body rejecting the sutures.
My doc just said to continue with wound care and to let him know if there's signs of infection. Although it looks scary, I'm hopeful that it will heal just fine over time. I'm still happy I had the surgery regardless of this delay in healing. My swelling has gone down a lot and it's nice to look at my flat stomach without stretch marks and a weird herniated belly button. My husband has also been commenting on how great my stomach is looking.

My incision seperated and it took 4 long months to heal, now I'm dealing with the scar.

Wow! Sorry that happened! Mine is almost closed at 6 weeks post op; medihoney really helped. My doc said he could do a little revision. I think it's a quick simple thing in office using a local, if I'm correct.

5 week update and belly button pic

I'm feeling a lot better and ready to get moving again! My incision wound is healing, but taking a long time. I started using medihoney 4 days ago and it started healing a lot faster; previously it was healing very slow. I may or may not opt to have the scar revised later on. I almost rather have a bigger scar than have another wound needing to heal again.
I have very little discomfort now as my skin feels like it's stretched out a bit; previously it felt very tight and like it would take forever to comfortably stand straight again. I've heard from others that it's taken them many months to stand straight.
When I sneeze, there's only minor discomfort in the area my muscles were sewn together (distasis recti area).
As the swelling has gone down, I also feel like my belly button looks more natural and cute. I'm posting a pic as many people considering a TT are concerned about belly buttons and there are very few clear closeup photos of bellybuttons online to look at. I don't have any fat to hide the scar or to make it look more like an innie, so I'm happy with it.
At the end of my day I still feel a little swollen and kind of itchy in the pubic area, assuming from the swelling or caused from healing as I was sewn all the way into that area. Seems like I'm still less swollen than many people are at this point and I look forward to the final result!

A cute belly button is everything! :D
It's great that you are healed to the point of minor discomfort when sneezing. I'm 2 weeks post op and have been fortunate to not have experience one yet.
