I flew to Turkey on the 9th of October 2019 for a 3000 graft FUE procedure with Dr Ilhan Serdaroglu. I spent two years researching various surgeons and practices around the world and spoke with many regarding my situation and procedure. When i contacted Dr Ilhan, he provided a timely and detailed response. I searched high and low but could not find any negative reviews from any previous patients which was not the case with some of the other top surgeons i spoke to. I choose Dr Ilhan for a number of reasons, such as the quality of the results and communication i had with him, his qualifications and experience.
Ilhan is a qualified plastic surgeon and also a member if the following associations American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS), International Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ISAPS), International Society of Hair Restoration Surgery (ISHRS) and is a founding member of the newly formed the Turkish society of hair restoration surgeons. Dr Ilhan is a highly respect hair restoration surgeon in Turkey and one of the best. He is regularly in the media for his opinion on the hair industry. Another reason i choose Dr Ilhan was he only looks after one patients a day, and Dr Ilhan is very involved through out the process. I have read many reviews on realself about people experiencing a factory mill situation where they are waiting in the reception with 5-10 hours waiting to see the doctor for a quick consultation then taken away by “technicians” for the procedure. This is not the case with Dr Ilhan, which also proves how important both the result and care of the patients is to him. His practice is located in an upmarket area of Istanbul, his practice is smart, tidy and hygienic. Dr Ilhan was happy to answer any questions i had over email and after corresponding back and forth over time i was ready to book my procedure. I provided a date which he confirmed would work, Dr Ilhan then provided bank account details and i made a small international transfer as a deposit to secure my procedure date. I then provided my flight details, as both transfer to and from The airport are included in Dr Ilhans price, as well as accommodation which was a nice modern hotel which also includes breakfast. Upon landing in Istanbul on the 9th of Oct, i was taken to his practice where we discussed the procedure and process in detail. Dr Ilhan is a great guy and very personable and he showed interest in myself and where i was from. During the procedure Dr Ilhan carried out all the pain injections and graft extractions and was involved throughout the process. The procedure was painless and Dr Ilhan regularly asked me if i was comfortable or in any pain. I was provided lunch, tea and coffee throughout the pain. The procedure was intended to take 8 hours but was completed in about 6. I was originally advised i would have about 2500 grafts, but Dr Ilhan advised they would try for as many as possible and a 3000 graft procedure was achieved at no extra cost. My head was bandaged and Dr Ilhan then provided detailed instructions on how to look after the new grafts, the do’s and don’t’s for graft survival etc. i returned two days later for my first scalp wash which was performed by his team while Dr Ilhan popped in to see me and to inspect my scalp. Dr Ilhan then provided 2 types of sprays which are not included in the fue price but are recommended for several reasons, one is for shock loss which you use only for the first 4 weeks to help prevent shock loss to the new grafts. Shock loss is normal and affects different people in various amounts. My shock loss was about 90% others experience none. The second spray is a serum which helps to grow and thicken hair, as the new transplanted hairs are new and thin and take about a year to fully develop. Dr Ilhan also provides a vitamin shampoo to help provide the required nutrients to the new hairs. The serums and shock loss serums are 135 turkish lira and the shampoo is 65lira additionally. I got two shampoos, and have only just finished the first, so two should last about 10 months. Dr Ilhan recommended using the serum for a least 6months, i brought 4, with each bottle lasting approx 1.5 months. Dr Ilhan also recommended a pill called Xpecia which can be brought from any turkish pharmacy, these are dht blockers and also provide all the vitamins required to grow hair such as biotin. Serums and pills are only recommendations, ultimately a patient’s decision but if your going to go through all the effort of a fue procedure then why not give your hair the best chance of growing and gaining the best result possible. I am only at 4.5/5 months and my hair is really starting to grow and thicken. My really glad i choose Dr Ilhan, he is professional and one of the best in Turkey at what he does. He is easily the number one in Turkey for value. Dr Ilhan has kept in contact and answered any post fue questions i had. I will be back in Turkey at the one year mark travelling and have already touched base about catching up with him, for anyone who is unsure about getting a fue procedure or which Dr to use then i would definitely recommend getting in touch with Dr Ilhan or checking out his Instagram page to view results etc. He responds quickly and is happy to answer questions. If you have any questions for a patient i’m happy to answer those too. I’ve taken heaps of so i will slowly but surely upload them over the coming days and weeks.

100% agree. Great review of a great surgeon...

I don't know if he is the best. But what I know the worst is Turgut Maral.
March 13, 2020
He’s the best for the reasons stated in the review. It’s purely my opinion based on years of research and communication with various surgeon surgeons, some very well know and expensive. Did you go to Maral?
May 24, 2020
Why is Maral the worst?
September 26, 2020
I think he means that Maral is the worst when it comes to communication and how he talks to you as a person/patient. It's his way of the highway afaik. But his results are still good.
