Making the Important Decision to Get a Hair Transplant

WORTH IT
Two weeks ago, I underwent a FUE hair transplant. I plan to update on the results in the coming months, but I thought it important to share my path to find the right medical partner to perform the surgery.
Opting for a hair transplant became a pivotal decision for me after dealing with hair loss and trying with usual suspect medications (finasteride & minoxidil) for a long period of time. Despite investing years in trying different treatments, the results were okay to start, but in the past few years, I was starting to lose the battle against a receding hairline. As I reached my 50th birthday, I decided to make the move towards a more permanent solution.
I met with several hair replacement medical offices around the Atlanta metro area during the discovery phase. The consultation process played a crucial role in my decision-making, offering a great understanding of the intricacies of the FUE technique (which I had decided early on was right for me), and helping align my expectations with realistic outcomes. It became apparent very quickly that not all offices and doctors are the same and while they were all selling the same result, not all inspired the confidence in me with the manner that result would be delivered. Some offices welcomed questions while others leaned heavily into a patronizing “Just trust me” approach. Ask your questions and get comfortable, it is your head after all.
I found Dr. Jeremy Wetzel and the staff at Anderson Center for Hair (Alpharetta office).. After initially meeting with their patient coordinator, Nelson, to learn about Anderson’s philosophy with FUE and their process, I met with Dr. Wetzel to deep dive on what my surgery would look like. My questions were answered and I felt very comfortable and confident leaving the consultation. Later that week, I booked my surgery for 4 weeks out. It was a relief to have this important part of the process settled.
The procedure itself proved to be relatively comfortable and the day passed without any drama (yay!). While still early in the recovery process, everything has unfolded more smoothly than anticipated. I know I made an excellent choice going with Dr. Wetzel and the team at Anderson Center for Hair
I’ll be sure to keep updates coming, but if you’ve ever questioned if you should explore pivoting from just medications to a hair transplant, I suggest you at least go through the discovery process. It’s a lot less intensive and scary than I originally thought and I’m absolutely looking forward to the results.

One Year Follow-up
SFitzAtlantaJanuary 17, 2025
After 1 year, I went back to see Dr. Wetzel for my follow-up. Bottom line on top, I'm so happy I went through with the transplant.
My recovery after the December 2023 procedure was fairly boring. The transplanted hair fell out after a few weeks, as expected, and new growth starting to sprout by the end of January. Come the first of March, I was seeing a lot of growth in the transplant area and my donor area was completely healed and (luckily) looked untouched. I was able to get my first haircut at the end of May and felt like I had a full head of hair by the first of July.
As part of the meeting, we took photos. I'll leave the Before and After here without comment except... WOW!
Do not wait for a hair transplant, it will change how you look at yourself and how others look at you.
10/10 would suggest Dr. Wetzel at Anderson Center for Hair, now at their Sandy Springs off.
