I was trying to avoid a hysterectomy by having an Endometrial Ablation in November, 2013. This turned “Niagara Falls” in to a manageable situation. Then around early spring 2014, I was excited that my periods finally stopped! Then, each month thereafter, I experienced increased pain around my cycle time what had me in a fetal position crying – so much so that I often was in Urgent begging for a Toradol injection. Apparently my period had no place to go. I now call this an epic Ablation Failure!
I was already investigating having a Tummy Tuck to celebrate my 50th. So I scheduled my hysterectomy surgery in January, 2015 to take advantage of the new deductible calendar year.
Tagging the Tummy Tuck onto this surgery is saving me approximately $3,000 off the Tummy Tuck alone. But I also have a $2k deductible on my health insurance to consider. In addition to savings on some surgical room time, anesthesia, getting an unknown hernia repaired, etc. I also will spend 1-2 days in the hospital which should be a nice way to baby-step into my recovery. My OBGYN is coordinating all the pre-surgery blood work, doing the opening incision, etc. to get the most out of my insurance coverage.
This site has been very helpful in learning about the procedure, and finding out that I didn’t qualify for a “mini tummy tuck” as I have too much fat and skin. More importantly, reading everyone’s stories, I started assembling some of the items others have shared to make their recovery easier.
I picked Doctor Christine Stiles, MD a plastic surgeon in Frisco, Texas. There was one review on this site about Dr. Stiles, but when I started taking to my other doctors about “Oh, I’m getting a lady surgery and ….” Many of them knew it was Dr. Stiles before I mentioned her name. They all said very good things about her including “She’s meticulous” many times.
The surgery is in 3 weeks (January 29th) and I am starting to get very nervous. I will update with photos and the goodies I've assembled next week.

These are pre-op pictures, as promised. I might have put on undergarments that did not extenuate my form. Here's to an after-shot that makes it all good.

Pre-Op appointment .... check
Okay, things are starting to get real! I left the pre-op appointment with a bag of goodies, instructions out the wazoo and a WALKER! Yes, Dr. Stiles lends out walkers to her patients :)
This weekend I picked up a pack of granny panties in case I am unhappy with pinning the drainage tubes to the binder. Thinking the granny panties (wearing 2 pair) and tucking the drains in will be the way to go -- makes bathroom trips easier, yes?
I also purchased a moo-moo type nightgown. It is soft as a feather, and has a zipper front.
I am getting scared and emotional thinking about surgery tho. I can easily cry if I let my thoughts play around.
