I am now on the 35th day post op and feel great!!! to catch up, I will try to go back to the day I had surgery.
I showed up in my new soft pjs to the hospital at 5:00am and my surgery started at 7:00. Everything went very smoothly and soon I was in the recovery room with my husband sitting there waiting for me to wake up. I woke up with a surgical bra on and much smaller breasts than I went in with. I was so excited. At that time, I felt no pain and was there for a while, then was allowed to go home. My bed was all ready for me with a wedge pillow and lots of pillows that made me feel really comfy. 3 hours later, my right breast swelled up like a balloon. I called the PS and told him what was happening and he asked me to send him pictures from my phone to him of what it looked like especially next to the other one that was normal. He texted me and said " come in right away and I will do exploratory surgery and see what''s going on. You have a hematoma."
so my husband put me in the car, this time with my little service dog Penny who is a pomeranian with a big heart and lots of love. When we got to the hospital, my surgeon was there really to help me and told me he would be there for me. and I had my dog on the bed with me and she was looking in my eyes to see if I needed her and started licking me on the arm and didn't stop until they wheeled me into OR. When I came out my surgeon said, he drained the hematoma and found underneath it a blood clot he was glad he saw. I soon went home and was back by 11:00pm to my house. My breast was back to normal for just having a breast reduction. I started taking the vicodin the dr gave me and it did help for the most part, but i did hurt quite a bit the first 2 or 3 days. I rested a lot and used ice on them and it helped so much with the pain and swelling. I was very bruised and looked pretty bad. My PS told me my breasts would look awful for the first two weeks and not to obsess about that. I took that to heart and I looked much better in two weeks like he said. I did rest some, but I admit, I ran short errands by the 4th day and took a 4 hour class on the 6th day, resting in between everything. My Post Op appointment went well and he said I could now take a shower. The drains bothered me more than anything because the surgical bra was tight on top of where the drains came out. 3 days later he took them out and I felt so so much better. By then I pretty much only had pain when I overdid it. He said I could lift up to 10 lbs and my dog was 9lbs. That was hard on me, but my husband was a jewel and helped me with everything including putting the dog on my bed. I layed in bed and listened to my ipod and read a lot and used my computer on a little desk that sat over my legs. I did buy some soft sports bras that had hooks in front from Walmart and they were wonderfully comfortable while still sort of a compression bra. I was allowed to wear those after two weeks. I started taking walks on day 15 and build up my strength resting after and drinking lots of protein drinks and juice. I had lost 50 lbs before the surgery so I was feeling pretty good. Today, on day 35 I saw my PS and he said, I can do everything now that I could do before and could wear normal bras, although he did say to make sure they hold you up and support you. I bought some pretty bras today and I am now a 38 C. I can sleep without the bra for the first night tonight. I am so happy with the results of this surgery. for me, I feel an incredible amount of confidence that I did not have before. I am 56 years old and feel better than I ever have in my life. Best thing I ever did for myself! Zena1

I have been wanting this surgery since I was 20 years old, but was afraid when I was that young. Now finally I have lot enough weight to have the surgery so it is scheduled for late October the 21st. It will be cooler then and be nicer for recovery. my insurance is going to cover all but the co pays. I am so grateful for that. I was very afraid that I wouldn't be approved by my insurance because I don't have all the qualifications they demand to get the surgery, but my Dr. wrote a letter to them and it was approved the next day.

Welcome to the community. October is the perfect month for this surgery. Not hot and you beat the bad weather. You will feel pretty good at one month post op.
