So I've got 4 tattoos (out of a lot) that are slated to be removed. I won't bore anyone with long tales of reasons, but concentrate on the procedure. I had a consultation at the Frederick Cosmetic Surgery and Skin Center and got a wealth of questions answered with patience. In the end, I signed up for my very first appointment... which happens to be the day after tomorrow! At the Center everyone was super nice and I was glad to hear they charge by time, not by the tattoo. They have multiple lasers at their disposal and have received fantastic reviews. Tomorrow I need to get to the pharmacy for the numbing cream. I'm a little nervous, but my calf and both wrists will thank me in the end. Feeling optimistic!

Welcome to the community, thank you for documenting your journey here on RealSelf. Please don't feel like you would bore anyone with the details of why you are removing them, so feel free to share - I am actually curious. Do you have photos of your other tattoos? The clinic sounds great, what lasers will you be treated with?

Getting ready to post my updated pics and wow am I impressed! They used a q-switched laser on the black and a ruby laser on the (mostly green) colored areas.

Well, today was my procedure. I went to see Sarah at the Frederick Cosmetic Surgery and Skin Center. Two hours earlier, I applied the Lidocaine cream and saran wrap as directed, but as I would soon discover it wasn't enough. I had booked 45 minutes for 3 tattoos and thought given my fairly high pain tolerance (or so I thought) I figured the numbing cream would be enough. I am, apparently, one of the lucky few who are not affected by Lidocaine. Two different types of lasers were used, and the only way I can describe the sensation was like live wasps under my skin. The areas are still wrapped, but once they've healed I'll be certain to take pictures.

So after a long fight with some pretty gnarly blisters, and after the insane ouch of the procedure, I can already say this is totally worth it! I ended up skidding down a hill and landed on a blister in jeans while moving, so that area is really scabbed, but the healing seems to be progressing fairly well!

Wow that fading on your black wrist tattoo gives me so much hope for my new one I want gone and it makes me want to go asap!! Wow that fading looks awesome. How old was that tattoo?

The wrist tatto was purple with black outline, about 8 years old. Nearly all the black is gone after the 1st session and really almost all that's left is the purple.

Thanks for the info!!
