Finally I Am Ready to Do It! Necklift, Lower Facelift and Lower Eyelids Blepharoplasty! Excited and Nervous!

Hi ladies. I’ve been reading about lower facelift reviews on RS for the last couple of years. Thank you for posting your experiences. They really helped me a lot! So I decided to post a review here thinking it might help others who are interested in these procedures.
I consulted five doctors over the last 2 years and finally made my mind and chose a surgeon. My surgery date is August 2 and preop on July 20. I still can’t believe it I’m doing this! A little background about myself; I’m 56 and have taken really good care of my skin. I don’t smoke; I try to eat healthy and exercise regularly. But skin sagging with age is unavoidable no matter what. Only in the last 2 years or so I’ve noticed the jowls start to form and neck skin started sagging. I just look tired/angry even when I’m perfectly rested and happy. I read that aging changes often appear to happen quite suddenly and this is exactly what I’ve noticed about myself.
In my 40s and early 50s I got botox and fillers but stopped a couple of years ago as it has become so expensive to maintain. I knew one day I would want to have a fl. The most difficult part has been choosing the surgeon. All the surgeons I consulted seemed very experienced. A couple of them quoted me over 20k!! In the end I decided to go to Dr. Wyatt To in Frederick MD. My consult was back in January and he was the 4th surgeon I consulted. He does only faces and does it under local anesthesia. It’s a bit scary thinking that I’m doing this under local. My consult with Dr. To lasted about 45 minutes and he thoroughly analyzed my face and answered all my questions. It will be a SMAS lift with neck lift. He told me the results should look natural and not overdone. To address volume loss he suggested fillers. Dr. To doesn’t do fat transfer. I had fat transfer under the eyes in 2014 but lasted only a few months. So, I will try fillers after the surgery.
My surgeon wanted a clearance from my eye doctor so I went last week. My eye doc said I have very dry eyes and it could get worse with lower eyelids surgery. So he recommends that it should be done very conservatively. I had the upper eyelids done last August and fortunately I didn’t experience any dryness, blurry vision or any other complication. Any thoughts from those who had their lower eyelids done?
The office showed me lots of before/after photos and the results are amazing. The office is about 2 hour drive from my house and the doctor wants to see me the day after surgery so I will spend the night in a hotel near the office. The total cost is around 10k!! It's a lot of money to spend and I hope it will be a good investment for my face :)
I plan to take off work about 16 days to recover at home. Do you think it’s enough time to fully recover? I work in an office setting btw.
If you have any suggestion for supplies I need for recovery or you have any advice please leave a comment. I appreciate your support.

I am back at work today after having all the procedures you mentioned. Still a little swollen but look pretty good for 15 days. Good luck. I had a very good result from a dr. In Birmingham, Al.

Good for you and Congrats. Has anyone noticed anything or said anything? I'm not planning to tell anyone at work. Thanks for posting.
July 10, 2018
I had to tell them. It's still noticeable with some swelling but not much bruising. I also had laser resurfacing and I still have lots of redness which I attempted to cover with makeup. So far, I'm going to be pleased when it settles down.

Glad to hear you're happy so far. It will only get better. What does the laser surfacing exactly do? Smooth out wrinkles?
July 10, 2018
Smooths out wrinkles and tightens skin. It's like baby skin now. It's going to look good when the redness goes away. What dr. are you using?

Good to hear. Dr. Wyatt To.

I'm sure you will be pleased. I can't wait until I'm fully healed.

Looking forward to your after photos as I am very close to Virginia Beach and was hoping to hear and see about results from surgeons here.

You will be very happy! We all heal at different speed. I am 6 days post-op and did some small shopping yesterday. I didn't need low eyelid surgery, but my PS mentioned that it may trigger dry eye syndrome. Think that this will not happen to you, but prepare for it and do extra research. Taking internally seabuckthorn oil may help with dry eye syndrome. Research it! Before you go for surgery make good organic broth (chicken or beef), get some yogurt or kefir, berries that low in sugar and high in antioxidants. You will need soft food for 2-4 days. Good luck and I am happy you made your decision.

I'm happy too I made this decision. My preop is on Friday and I will discuss the dry eye syndrome with my surgeon. The eye doctor said it's fine if it is done without over correction. So we will see. Thanks for suggesting the chicken broth, yogurt and berries. I will look into the seabuckthorn oil as well.

Preop Visit

Hello lovely ladies. I had my preop visit last Friday. The doctor went over the procedures and took photos. I shared with him some photos when I was younger so he can see how my face changed with aging. He prescribed antibiotics, anti-anxiety pills, anti-nausea patch and pills, and pain killers. The office also provided some items for me including vit C, arnica and silicon gel. I will have to be at their facility at 7:30 am on the day of surgery. So I'm planning to stay in a nearby hotel for two nights, the night before surgery and the night after since he wants to see me a day post surgery. All fees have been paid and I'm ready for surgery!

Hello Inorman. Thank you for your support. A week from today unbelievable how time flies!

I'm 5 weeks out and loving my results. I had no pain just a little time consuming caring for the incisions and laser resurfacing, plus lower eyes. You're going to be so pleased. Good luck!!

Very happy for you Sims. Did your doctor remove skin from lower eyelids?
July 28, 2018
He did from the inside. I've had a good result. Just a little swelling from when I sleep on my side. I've had a hard time sleeping on my back. I had better luck when I slept in a recliner the first 2 weeks.
July 28, 2018
Sims, do you have any pics up?
July 26, 2018
u are lovely and will be thrilled with result. I had lower eyes done in late 50's and had dry eye for a few weeks but it cleared. I had a deep plane at age 70 and am still thrilled 2 yrs later. best of luck, barbydoll

I'm glad to hear you're still happy with your fl results. Thanks for leaving a sweet comment. I too hope I will be happy with the outcome. It's a lot of money to spend and time to recover.
July 29, 2018
hey with all those meds you will at least have a good time!!! just kidding of course. I took pain meds for just a few days then NSAID. sounds like u did good research. best luck, barby

This is my first time to take anti anxiety med. The dr. recommended I take one pill the night before surgery and then 3 pills one hour before surgery. I really hope I sleep during the entire surgery. It still doesn't feel like my surgery is on Thursday.
July 29, 2018
I definitely think you should follow his recommendation. I expect u have someone with u as u may be a bit more sleepy than usual in the morn. I believe the 3 pills will keep u fairly calm if not unconscious during surgery. wishing u all the best. I looked at my worst photos each day to remind myself the reason I was putting myself through the anxiety!

I can't believe I'm done already. Surgery went very well and I am recovering at home. Sorry I couldn't update sooner. I have been feeling washed out. Resting at home. No pain but I feel tightness in the neck area. The sides of the face are numb. Going back to the doctor's office on Monday for sutures removal. I plan to write in detail later.

Thanks dear. I love the neck already. Face is swollen but today the swelling went down. The nurse told me today and tomorrow swelling would be worse.
August 4, 2018
Swelling easily creeps back with a single saltine cracker, it happened to me, so please be careful there. So happy things went well for you. Looking forward to your updates. Happy Thoughts and prayers!!

I had a tummy ache today and ate a few crackers without thinking. Thanks for the advice and well wishes.

I see :) I have less swelling today but still I don't look like myself. My face looks wide. Happy recovery to you.
August 6, 2018
Not quite looking like yourself is surreal. It's like I see me, but that's not me. Is your nausea better?
User Avatar
August 6, 2018
I didn't have any nausea. My surgeon prescribed a nausea patch to be worn by behind the ear and a pill that I took the night before surgery.
August 6, 2018
That's great. I guess I misunderstood you were eating saltines. I thought it was nausea. I can not imagine having to vomit in this situation.

It’s not fun at all. Quite terrifying. I wish I knew about the patch. What’s the patch called for a future reference please.
August 7, 2018
It was no big deal, easy peasy. I come and go as I please and no one sees me so I went in at 10 am and left at 3 pm. I don't know how some women stay home. I was about to lose my mind.

Sorry I just saw this. The patch is called Scopolamine. He also prescribed a pill Emend (Aprepitant -anti nausea).
