I am now 6 months out from surgery. I look and...

I am now 6 months out from surgery. I look and feel great. My recovery was seamless and short. I was back to work 3 days after surgery. I had to postpone my exercise routine for about 6 weeks following surgery, but after that I was back to normal activity. I felt extremely prepared for surgery and recovery prior to surgery, as it is my job to walk patients through this process. Having had the procedure now, I feel that I can relate to patients more and give them firsthand recommendations through the recovery process. One thing that many patients seem to be concerned about following surgery is nerve regeneration. Immediately following surgery, the nerves are numb. In the following weeks, those nerves start to "wake up" and regenerate feeling again. This can happen in a variety of ways; nipple hypersensitivity (which was my experience), sharp shooting pains, hot/cold sensations, feelings of tearing/ripping. It sounds crazy, but it's completely normal. These sensations usually only last a few seconds, and then they're gone. With the exception of nipple sensitivity. Mine lasted about 2 weeks and I had to double up on my sports bras until it subsided so my clothes didn't rub so much. That was the only hiccup in my recovery if you could even call it that.
As far as pain goes, the worst part is the muscle soreness and it only took a week or two to subside. It feels much like an intense pushup workout. I was only on pain medicine for 2 days and then I was able to switch to ibuprofen. I wasn't able to sleep on my stomach for several weeks, which was a little difficult for me since I'm a natural stomach-sleeper.
For the first few weeks, the implants sit high. This is due to the muscles still being stiff and not relaxed yet. Once the muscle settles down, the implants will "drop" to their natural position. Many patients worry about how high the implants sit at first, but after a few weeks they start to get closer to their final position.
I will say that if you're teetering between two sizes and you're afraid to do the bigger size, don't be. I can't speak for every surgeon, but I know that Dr. Burgdorf will not put an implant in that will make you unnatural or fake (unless that is your desire). We see patients hesitate to go 50-100cc's bigger prior to surgery, and then wish they had taken Dr. Burgdorf's advice after surgery. It's a scary thing to have a surgery that will change your appearance, so I think that's why a lot of patients hesitate on size. Once they're in, we can certainly swap them out for a larger size, but that's another surgery cost. Why not get the best result the first time? I would advise you to trust your surgeon's opinion- he takes your end result into consideration when choosing an implant but won't go bigger without your express consent.
I am so thrilled with my results. I can buy dresses now without having to have the chest altered. I can buy bathing suits with matching top/bottom sizes. I can buy bras and lingerie at Victoria's Secret (they don't make lingerie in A cup). I'm a full C now and absolutely love the way I look and fill out my clothes. The best part is that people don't know I've had surgery by looking at me. It's not obvious. It's proportionate to my body and looks like this is how I was made to be.

I had breast augmentation surgery and absolutely love my results. Dr. Burgdorf was completely honest and realistic about what my result would be and helped me find the right size for me. He made me feel extremely comfortable with the entire process and I never second-guessed my decision. He helped me to acheive a really natural look without looking fake. My surgery was 3 weeks ago, and although I still have some swelling, they already look great and did the day of surgery!

I am Dr. Burgdorf's patient care coordinator. After being in consultations with him and seeing the results our patients are getting, I decided to have the procedure myself. I was extremely confident in him and his expertise. He is an excellent surgeon and walked me through every step of the process so that I felt prepared and excited for my surgery.
