Had my 2nd appointment today!
Note : I know I just uploaded my 1st consultation with the ortho, but that was actually 2 weeks ago. I just decided to start documenting stuff here recently, hence why the dates are off. From now on it should be fine ^^
So, I just had my second consultation with Dr. Ouadi. Good lord, I am so happy I picked her! She is super nice and is not only really professional and considerate, but I get the feeling from her that she knows what she is doing, which is great!! I've had my fair share of crappy experiences with dentists, I'm wary of bad professionals!
Anyway, I went in today to give her my x-rays and to take my impressions for the braces!
I had 3000 questions, which she promptly answered (thank goodness she is patient, because I can get very control-freak on stuff at times!), and she even facilitated some papers for my insurance company, which is AMAZING (the [RS bleep] wanted to classify my braces as aesthetic and not cover it. My point and argument with them was that since I need surgery AND braces for my impacted tooth, it is NOT cosmetic. She was awesome and helped me sort through it).
The consultation didn't take very long. After taking my impressions, she told me that she will study the impressions and my scans and we can meet again in two weeks and she'll walk me through the entire process of what will happen and when.
Apparently, I will get my braces fit in about a month (Dec 11th), and soon after I'll get my surgery to expose the impacted tooth. She doesn't know yet when I'll get the second one to remove my labial frenum (the lil piece of skin that goes from the center of your lip until the middle of your front teeth, inside your mouth), which is keeping my front teeth apart, she will tell me on the next appointment for sure.
Another good piece of news : I lost a pre-molar a few years back. Since we didn't have money as I was growing up, I ended up losing that tooth due to lack of care. Fortunately, rather than having to get an implant, she told me we can pull my last molar up front, into the space of the missing tooth, and then maybe pull my wisdom tooth up front as well. That was great news for me, because my dentist had told me that maybe I was already too old to do such a thing.
I have my next consultation scheduled for November 20th, just a quick one to know more details about how the treatment will go down. After that I'll take a trip to the US and when I get back I'll get my braces put on! It's better to wait to have the braces put on until after my trip abroad, so I'm satisfied with this arrangement ^^
I'm super excited, cannot wait to have all the metal in my mouth! Not that I'm particularly looking forward to the process, but rather to the end result (as I told her "the sooner they get on, the sooner they come off").
I also got some pamphlets from her office, and saw that she uses self-ligating braces, which have smaller brackets than the traditional braces and, in my case, are also made of ceramic. Looks really promising, especially on my small teeth!
I'll update you guys after my next appointment (or whenever I have news ahah)

First orthodontist appointment
As promised, here's my update on my first consultation with my orthodontist!
So, I got this doc recommended by a friend, and schedules my appointment to see her.
She was SUPER nice and took a look at my mouth and pointed out the tooth is lodged on my palate, just behind my top row of teeth. She told me she can fix it with braces but that I will need a mini-surgery with a surgeon-dentist to expose the impacted tooth and attach a bracket to it, which she can then pull into the right place with the braces.
She listened to my concerns and addressed them all, too. We are getting rid of my middle gap, but I have to get rid of my frenum to do so (another little trip to the surgeon-dentist). She was even super understanding with me regarding my aesthetic concerns, she assured me that the ceramic braces are barely noticeable, and since she uses the damon ones, they are smaller and do not stain. She also assured me she would pull my impacted canine out and closest as possible before getting my milk tooth extracted, so that I won't have a huge gap on my front teeth.
Overall, a wonderful consultation!
She requested a few x-rays so that she can evaluate my teeth better, and she told me that next time we will do the impressions and once she has those plus the x-rays, she'll study them and she'll be able to give me a precise timeline of what will happen and how long I will have braces for.
Super psyched!
