My teeth used to bother me a lot when I was...

My teeth used to bother me a lot when I was younger, but I must say I kinda got used to them around my 19/20 years old. Yes, they are small, and I have a big gap in the middle, which does make me look a lot younger than I am, but I grew used to them, so I didn't much mind them, and especially not enough to put braces on (putting braces on small teeth is NOT attractive).
And then I discovered I had an impacted tooth.
Growing up, my family didn't have much money, so visits to the dentist were scarce and only to take care of the teeth I had. We were never in a situation I could even consider having braces while I was young, so I never took an x-ray at that time.
When I was 21, and finally made enough money, my dentist asked me to take an x-ray of my teeth to evaluate the state of my teeth (I had been grinding my teeth, and she suspected damage. Also, I had a cavity between two teeth). And that's when she tells me: one of my canine teeth never fell.
The actual definitive canine tooth is impacted, which basically means it is stuck inside my gums, behind and above the milk one (I'll attach the x-ray for clarity).
And now I'll pause to answer the obvious question: Nope, I had sincerely never noticed the size difference in my teeth. One would think! I guess I'm not as obsessive about how I look as I thought! It is definitely fun to point it out to people, it's one of those things that "once I tell you, you can't unsee it"! *evil-laugh*
At the time, I got my teeth all fixed up and was about to go to the orthodontist, when circumstances in my life changed and I had to move again.
Fast-forward to now (I completely forgot about the damn tooth, and at the time my dentist didn't seem too alarmed about it, so I didn't think it was an urgent matter), I had a bit of a tooth ache a few weeks back, and immediately made an appointment to a dentist here.
Good news is that I have no cavities. Bad news is that the dentist told me I need to fix this tooth because the milk one may fall off at any moment, which FREAKED ME OUT. Apparently, milk teeth don't have deep roots because they're not supposed to hang out in your mouth for that long. Result: I have to take care of this ASAP.
I already had my first orthodontist appointment, but I'll add that on a separate post in the interest of not turning this one into a book (she gave me a lot of info!). For now, I'll attach a crappy picture of my smile (I need to actually take some pictures, as my bite is also not quite right and to provide you with more details and side views), and my x-ray (you can see the lil' bugger on the left side, it's stuck up there!).

First orthodontist appointment

As promised, here's my update on my first consultation with my orthodontist!
So, I got this doc recommended by a friend, and schedules my appointment to see her.
She was SUPER nice and took a look at my mouth and pointed out the tooth is lodged on my palate, just behind my top row of teeth. She told me she can fix it with braces but that I will need a mini-surgery with a surgeon-dentist to expose the impacted tooth and attach a bracket to it, which she can then pull into the right place with the braces.
She listened to my concerns and addressed them all, too. We are getting rid of my middle gap, but I have to get rid of my frenum to do so (another little trip to the surgeon-dentist). She was even super understanding with me regarding my aesthetic concerns, she assured me that the ceramic braces are barely noticeable, and since she uses the damon ones, they are smaller and do not stain. She also assured me she would pull my impacted canine out and closest as possible before getting my milk tooth extracted, so that I won't have a huge gap on my front teeth.
Overall, a wonderful consultation!
She requested a few x-rays so that she can evaluate my teeth better, and she told me that next time we will do the impressions and once she has those plus the x-rays, she'll study them and she'll be able to give me a precise timeline of what will happen and how long I will have braces for.
Super psyched!
