I decided to get the "Mona Lisa" procedure done...

WORTH IT$1,800
I decided to get the "Mona Lisa" procedure done primarily to combat vaginal dryness which was a result of getting a full hysterectomy at 37 years of age (I am now 54). Basically, I got tired of needing to use lubrication when sexually active...
The treatment consists of 3 separate Gyn. visits spaced 6 weeks apart. It is not painful at all. The best way to describe it is to imagine a pain free drill bit looking laser that's inserted fully into your vagina, methodically scraping the cells until it exits so they rejuvenate and produce natural lubricant. It takes less than 5 minutes per visit. Patients are advised to avoid sexual activity and keep all objects out of the vagina for 2 days following each treatment. Once you have completed the three visits it's advisable to have one laser treatment each year to prevent the dryness from recurring. You can add it to your yearly Gyn visit. It's anticipated within the next few years health insurance will cover the Mona Lisa laser procedure, but for now you'll need to pay out of pocket.
On the first visit, I did not notice any change in my dryness at all. After the second treatment their was some noticeable difference. I told the doctor I didn't see much change from the first time and he said the second treatment would be more aggressive, which was the normal protocol. After the second treatment their was a noticeable difference in the dryness issue for the better...
The third and final treatment was the one that completely eliminated vaginal dryness, and now I don't need lubricant for sex - just a sexy guy to get the juices flowing... :-). I would say it's worth it, even if you don't have sex that much... The dryness is uncomfortable and the vagina needs natural lubrication to stay healthy. With menopause, whether natural or surgically created, the vagina can suffer especially if you don't take some of the stronger hormone replacement drugs.
Anecdotally, I asked the doctor why its called the "Mona Lisa" and he said the physician who developed the procedure was from Italy. Well, the lady is smiling.... now we know why!

Thank you for posting this. I am due to have the Mona Lisa Touch treatment soon and was very frightened as I had read many bad reviews on this site for the Smartxide Dot Therapy treatment used on the face. I was thinking of not having it done, but after reading your post I will give it a go. You say it didn't hurt?

My Dr told me the treatment used for the face is not good at all for the "V" It is designed to shed skin and the Mona Lisa touch is not. The face and the "V" are not even the same in any context so that made sense to me.

Just had it done on Tuesday (Fri today) and it was fine. A tiny bit of discomfort, the lidocaine cream used was burning briefly, like my nails when they first go under the ultra violet light for a gel manicure, but it was all very brief and I felt perfect within an hour. I was afraid to urinate afterwards, but no discomfort at all. Maybe my imagination, but I already feel "better", maybe a little more natural lubrication. I can't wait to try it out, and can't wait for the next two treatments.
The cost was a consideration, it was not a frivolous decision, but I'm already happy about it.

Just had my first treatment and not noticing much but I did develop itching the day after. Did you experience this? My doctor said to use Vagisil for the itch which I am doing. Are you still seeing benefits 3 months out? Thank you for sharing your journey.
I love you review! What an interesting description of the laser, "a pain free drill bit" hahaha! I am glad that you found the procedure comfortable and are happy with your results. The mystery to the Mona Lisa's smile is solved!
