My gynecologist offered to remove my tattoo that I...
$1,500
My gynecologist offered to remove my tattoo that I had been regretting for about a year now, she had just purchased the new Picosure laser and said she had had great results. She was pretty convinced that she could have it completely removed in 4 sessions and offered a patient discount price. She said I could pay it in payments so I figured what the heck, I'll try it. She also told me it wouldn't be painful that it was similar to a rubber band busting (boy was that a lie).
I went in to my first treatment in March 2015, let me just say it was a very painful process, so much in fact that had I known how painful it was I would have NEVER agreed to do it (even with the numbing cream).
After the first treatment it took a whole 2 weeks to completely heal, it blistered and was very painful. I did notice the smoke tattoo around the large dark tattoo was gone and some of the lighter parts of the tattoo had faded, I didn't notice a change in the dark part of the tattoo though.
She said the sessions had to be spaced out 6 weeks between sessions. Why? I have no idea, but after the first treatment I did not mind waiting 6 weeks. In fact I dreaded going back.
At the end of April I went in for my second session, just as painful as the first. I'm still not noticing much fading on the darker part of the tattoo with the exception of some spots that look bleached (I honestly think it will take more sessions than 4). The healing process seems like less time but still blistered, the healing was much more itchy than the first time.
I have posted pics below of one right after I had gotten the tattoo in 2011, another pic 1 day after the first session and the other pic is 1 week and 1 day after the second session.
I will continue to share my experience and pics as I go.
So far my suggestion is that if you don't hate your tattoo then leave it alone.

Scared to go back
Well, I was suppose to get my third treatment June 9th but I have prolonged it because I am dreading going through the awful pain once again.
To anyone considering this I would only recommend it if the tattoo you have effects your day to day life in a negative way. If it doesn't then LEAVE YOUR TATTOO ALONE!
At least until they come up with some sort of treatment that is not so painful in the future. Now if you have a small tattoo the journey may not be as painful.
Unfortunately for me I must continue because I have already prepaid for 4 sessions and at this point my tattoo looks horrible (because of the treatments) so it is a must that I remove it.

Hey there, thanks for the update --I completely understand what you are saying, I used to dread going for my treatments as I knew what I was in for...pain and more pain!! I don't know if I ever shared this with you yet, but Bactine spray really helped me - it provides lots of pain relief and helps with the itch. I also made a rose water in which I found very soothing. Keep in mind that your ink continues to fade between treatments and this may be a well needed break. If you have a moment, would you mind sharing your thoughts on pain and tattoo removal here. Have a wonderful day!

I agree with your message to people. I chose not to remove my tattoo for that reason. While I still have bad days and the feelings of regret come back, I'm choosing to push through and accept it. I still hope that further improvements will come for removal and I believe there will be. The need is there and where there's $$ to be made, I believe someone will come up with the answer. Good luck on your removal. We are here to support you.

3rd Session
I went in for my 3rd session on July 7th, still the same amount of pain. I expressed my frustration to the Dr because she said I would only need 4 sessions and the tattoo doesn't even look half way gone. At this point I'm debating if I should just get a cover up tattoo, it would be a lot cheaper than if I continue the Picosure process and it would be one time of pain.
On the pictures below the first pic shows the actual picosure laser, the second pic shows the tattoo with numbing cream right before the session, the third and fourth pics are 1 day after the treatment, and the fifth pic is 2 days after the treatment-on this day I had to tie a towel around my arm because the blisters were oozing pretty bad.
The blistering has been way worse this time for some reason but the after pain was not as bad. I applied Neosporin post treatment instead of the Aquaphor, and I took the suggestion of Eva G and also used Bactine spray, I feel those two changes helped so much with the post pain.
I'm on day 6 now and its is peeling badly (will post pic later) and there is a lot of itch, the Bactine spray helps with the itch also.
I will keep you guys updated.

Not sure if you check this anymore as it has been quite a long time.. But I'd love an update if you went for full removal. I have a similar tattoo in the same spot and am about to go in for my first treatment with Picosure. Any help/advice would be awesome! Thank you :)
