8 Weeks Still Swelling!! - Fort Washington, MD

I had a modified mac face lift with an upper eye lid procedure 8 weeks ago!
Firstly, I wish people would be more honest in their attitude/professional opinion towards a facelift in the fact that '2 weeks later you can return to work' No chance!
I'm struggling with swelling and webbing to my eye. My PS has done a minor procedure on it to alleviate the pulling but looks/feels no better, it's actually increased the swelling to the forehead and rest of face.
I was given a weeks supply of dexamethasone 3x2mg. I see/feel no difference? I have had quite strong 'pins & needles' on one side of my face almost from the beginning. PS thinks I shouldn't have this at this point and prescribed a low dose Amitripltiline to block the nerve endings and hopefully subside the swelling. Again, no joy? Admittedly I have only taken them for three days but couldn't cope with the slurred speech, dry mouth or strange sensations in my hands. So have stopped them. I've stopped everything apart from anti inflammatories.
I feel I'm all over the place and still haven't returned to work - I'm sure I'm about to lies my job.
I can feel my face swelling, especially following a 'pins & needles' bout. Is this normal? I thought pins and needless were a good sign not a bad sign?
Please help I'm at my wits end :(

I'm so sorry you're having such a rough time. I had a smas fl, brow lift and upper and lower bleph a little more than 3 months ago and I agree that it takes a lot longer then the 2 weeks they all say. I returned to work after 7 weeks and I was still swollen and uncomfortable. I know it's hard to be patient but the swelling will go away as well as the tingling. I still have tingling but the swelling is 90% gone. {{{ hugs }}}
Thank you so much, I think I just needed some positive feedback that I'm not going to be stuck like this forever - time really drags when you're watching it! Was your swelling soft & spongy? Strange description I know but that's how it feels. Thanks again, you HAVE made me feel better :) x
Yes, that's how it felt...hang in there, it'll get better :)
Seven weeks. Wow. With me I just hope he doesn't have to surgically adjust anything. Right now my right earlobe is noticeably longer than the other and also a lump below my left temple. Should I notify him immediately?
That is help to me, too. Just not aware of what I should be alert about.
It's common to have uneven swelling, I wouldn't worry about it unless it starts to really hurt or burn. As far as the lump, is it large?
Had my stitches & staples out today, one week from surgery, all good, healing well, no infection just a little tight. Told not to ice face anymore, to use warm towels under chin/ neck to ease bruising which to be honest is minimal. Going back in 2 weeks for check up & to book for upper & lower eyelid surgery, my surgeon wouldn't do them with my face lift said I would get better results if I waited. I'm sure all your lumps & bumps will settle, it's just a time thing, chin up xx
I hope your feeling better, I applied every 1 to 2 hours iced jel packs on my face, less than 3 days later my bruising is minimal, just yellow skin, my feeling around my face is increasing daily. 4th day no pain killers or antibiotics so I'm hoping that within 2 weeks my face will be healed. I wish you good luck with yours, it will be worth it, go back & insist that they relieve your discomfort. Taiwan Surgery, fantastic
i became a fanatic about salt intake after my face and neck lift, because every time I ate anything the least bit salty the swelling increased. I also did LDM (lymphatic drainage massage, sometimes twice a day, and that helped a lot. Your PS office might be able to refer you to a reputable physical therapy masseuse. Best wishes and keep posting. We are here for you.
Sorry to hear that! I had Face, neck, brow lift and chin implant five days ago, I am feeling great, the swelling is going down very quick! My P'S put me on vitamins two weeks before surgery, I'm avoiding salty foods, having fruit smoothies (I can't chew nothing hard for 2 weeks, because the chin implant) and drinking lots of water with lemon, that's what the nurse suggest. I also read that if you avoid meats while you are in the recovery phase and eat fruits and vegetables our body will became a healing machine. I was thinking today that maybe will be possible to return to work in 2 weeks (I'm stay home mom) as many doctor's suggest, but I will see . Yes, the swelling should feel soft if it becomes hard my PS advice me to contact him immediately. I have those weird sensations on my scalp and around my face, like someone is massaging my face I am not worried about that at this point, I think is part of the healing process, I will ask my Dr on Friday. He said that approximately 4-5 months following your F/Neck lift surgery you can expect the final stages of your recovery. Hang in there! Hope you feel better soon and keep in touch with your doctor. Hugs
You are on a great food routine! Hope you have some Ensure (or whatever with low sodium) to keep up PROTEIN. I am 32 yr. pescatarian (fish/seafood only) and complex protein helps healing. You are gonna look great!
I'm sorry this has been a long, hard process for you. Here's a forum post about lengthy facelift healing times. For some folks it is much longer than they expected. Please keep us posted. We are here for you!
