Day 22
Had the temporary contact lens removed on day 7 a little uncomfortable but glad they re out. Vision between day 7 and now day 22 has improved but anything farther than 5. -10 Ft is very blurry still not quite as bad as earlier but still cannot read street signs. The light sensitivity is staring to subside but sunglasses outside are still a must. Pain for the most part has completely went away with only some uncomfortableness in the morning. This is the worst time of day until you get a couple doses of eye drops in. Down to twice a day on the steroid drops but regular eye drops are required throughout the day. Not yet completely comfortable driving but it's getting better. Near vision is very good about 18 inches in but the other vision is slowly getting better but is rather frustrating. The 3-6 months complete recovery is starting to look like it might be on the long side maybe. The biggest issue right now is the drying of the eyes. You have to be very aware of not putting yourself in a situation of traveling at any kind of speed without a windshield i.e.. motorcycle, bike, boat, jet ski those type of activities because your eyes dry out rather quickly and become irritated.
I am a week out from having PRK done on both eyes....
I am a week out from having PRK done on both eyes. The procedure itself would be best described as uncomfortable but not painful. I had both eyes done at one time because I am retired and off for the summer from my part time driving job. I would not recommend having both eyes done if currently working. It is rather debilitating. I am a week out and cannot comfortably drive yet because of blurred vision. The day after the procedure you go in to make sure everything is ok and I tested out 20/20. My eyes haven't been that good in 30 years so that was awesome but what comes next is very challenging to be sure. On day 2 the pain comes on pretty strong. The pain prescription is pretty week and I had my wife pick up some extra strength Tylenol for the pain that actually worked better. You have to use 3 different types of drops for a week and on days 2,3,and 4 is a challenge because you don't even want to open your eyes because of the pain. Don't plan anything on these days except taking it easy, you will be useless. The pain is best described as a burning sensation and sometimes like a spec of sand in them. Again pain medication takes the edge off but it still is extremely uncomfortable. Day 5 is much better but the blurryness is still there but for the most part the pain is gone and mess are not required. Thie blurryness is typical in the recovery process but I feel was understated by the staff. Day 5 and 6 also was a little surprising to me because my near vision has cleared up faster then my far vision. It has been the opposite for me the past 15 years. I can actually read a newspaper without glasses. But on day 6 the vision on anything more then 3 feet away is shrill rather blurry. I have my temporary contact lens which they put in on the day of surgery removed on day 7. They put those in as a bandage I guess. I will give an update after that. But if the test after surgery is any indication of what the final result will be I will be very happy with the outcome. But be aware that it is a lengthy healing process and in the short term painful.
