Wanted this for a long time - left me with a hideous scar

DO NOT GO TO DR. HOUSSOCK!

I am officially almost 10 months post op & I had my hair transplant surgery about 3 weeks ago to cover the hideous scar that Dr. Houssock left me with. I’ll leave a separate review about the surgeon who did my hair transplant because I had a great experience with the practice.
Throughout this journey I’ve communicated to Dr. Houssock my concerns about the excessive scarring. Once I had what appeared to be a separation of the incision I knew the scar would be entirely too obvious. But I tried to be positive since that’s all I could do. By month 6 no hair was sprouting from the incision & she switched to saying that no hair would grow through the incision - only behind. This isn’t what I was told at all. By her or other surgeons. Once I accepted that a hair transplant would be necessary I approached Dr. Houssock about the surgery only for her office to send me a $8000+ estimate for the procedure. The only concession that was extended was a free PRP injection (valued at $1500 for just ONE injection. Which is highway robbery). She didn’t offer to see me and determine if a scar revision was possible or anything. Her office is clearly just focused on money and getting patients in and out. I’m a very reasonable person but her office just didn’t think they had any part to play in the scarring I’ve been left with.
Needless to say I have ceased all communication with her practice and I DO NOT recommend going to her. Especially if you’re a person of color. She does not have expertise in dealing with skin of color.
I’ve gone to three other hair transplant surgeons/plastic surgeons and they’re quite surprised that she wants to charge so much to fix the issue she created. Another surgeon said that because of the width of the scarring a second forehead reduction would be necessary to remove the scar. I don’t want to put myself through that all over again so I opted for a hair transplant. So far so good. I just hope the recipient areas get enough blood flow on the left side of my hairline because that is where the scar is the widest.
She clearly put too much tension during the procedure, and that’s an indication of her lack of expertise in assessing tension. The left side of the incision was is still sore prior to my hair transplant. I feel like there was a great deal of tension on that side so it is still slightly separated. That’s the best way I can explain the sensation I’m feeling. .
Bottom line, if you want a practice that ensures they’ll correct issues and not leave you worse off post procedure, avoid Dr. Houssock at all cost. Dr. Epstein in Miami is the surgeon I should’ve had this procedure with & I am regretting letting Dr. Houssock do this surgery.

I’m so sorry to hear about that awful experience. I pray the hair transplant gives you the beautiful outcome you deserve!
Thank you! I’m staying positive about this procedure.
i’m so happy that you are able to fix this! I’ve seen dr houssock instagram and all her patients sutures looks so messy! good luck on this transplant surgery
Thanks!

It’s really unfortunate because I was willing to still pay something for the hair transplant. But I felt $8000 was just a slap in the face considering the fact she left such an obvious scar.
Have you had your procedure with Dr Ahanarov yet? I am looking forward to seeing your results.
hopefully in june!! me too
that’s horrible :( i hope u get the best results
You should sue the doctor if you can
Look in to micropigmentation with permanent cosmetics to correct the scar. An expert color blender can help with some of that.
You have been very reasonable and diplomatic. You have a positive attitude.

Seven Month Update

Unfortunately my biggest ear about the width of the scar has come to pas & I'm now having to figure out what my options are because the lack of hair around the incision is really quite obvious. In hindsight going to a surgeon who utilizes endotines would have been the best option and is my recommendation to other people considering this surgery. The endotines would significantly reduce the tension if the surgeon isn't well versed in assessing scalp laxity but still wants to give patients as much lowering as possible.

Hi Kay; I'm in DC and would love to meet up for support when it's safe to do so. My suggestion would be to consult with another surgeon (dr. Gal or Dr. Epstein) and see what their suggestions are. Hair transplant? Tattoo/micro blading? There are options. I read a comment on your July post and someone was suggesting exposing the scar to sunlight to darken it and i have to say that actually makes sense to me. I had advised against it but I find myself with about an inch of pink on my left hand side which I'm hoping will fade to brown but hasn't yet.
Hi! Sorry for just responding. I didn’t talk with Dr. Epstein but he said I’d need another forehead reduction to get rid of the scar. I definitely didn’t feel comfortable with that idea so I consulted with other seasoned surgeons and was told that I could get great coverage of the scar with transplants. I took it upon myself to get two rounds of PRP before my transplant. Then I got another PRP about eight days post op. Then I’ll be getting my fourth and final PRP three months post op. I’m also considering getting steroid injections to flatten the scar on the left side because it’s quite raised compared to the rest of the scar. Hopefully I’ll be done with this forehead business by the end of the year.
Hi Kay,
I would like to suggest you try prp injections as they have worked for me and helped me regrow hair around the incision.

You can see my results here:
https://www.realself.com/review/forehead-reduction-excited-finally

It's basically 3 sessions done a month apart. You start noticing results after the 3rd session.

Best of luck sis.
I started doing PRP as a prep for my hair transplant (which I had done in March). I decided to go to another doctor because Dr. Houssock wanted to charge me almost $8,000 to do a transplant. I felt it was in bad taste given the fact that she caused the scar. I’ve gone to other plastic surgeons and they’re quite surprised she wanted to charge me for the transplant. I absolutely would not recommend her for any type of surgery especially if you’re a person of color.
I’m so sorry this happened to you! :( You’re the second person I’ve seen who had a bad experience with the outcome of their surgery. I hope you’re able to find a surgeon to fix this for you. wishing you the best!
praying for you

Three month update

Just sharing photos. The scar is disappearing but by bit. The corners are the slowest at healing & no hair has come through the corners of the incision & I’m going to bring that up to my surgeon. I’m thinking of waiting until early next year to decide if I’ll do hair transplants because I may just be a slow healer so I may not be seeing full results just yet. My forehead is smaller, I just need my hairline to fill in. The Silagen is really helping & I’m still using it twice a day. My scalp itches like crazy sometimes & when I tap the top of my head my nerves tingle towards my hairline. Lol. It’s such a weird (not bad) sensation.

Such a great improvement from last time. Keep doing what you're doing. Hopefully it's just shock hair loss and hair will grow once again (shock hair loss is a side effect) Do you know if your surgeon used endotines? Also, was your incision in. Zig zag pattern or just a straight line. My surgery is on 10/29 so been doing a lot of research. I've found out that these two things (endotines and zig zag incision). reduce tension on the scar. I'm using rogaine to stimulate hair follicles so I don't suffer shock hair loss.
Thank you! The corners still have some healing to do & the scar in front is still quite obvious in natural light. But it’s much better. She did not use endotines & the incision was in a zigzag pattern. Who is your surgery with? Hope you have a smooth procedure.
Dr. Gal Aharov in BH. I trust his work. I'm just so worried about shock hair loss. I have very fine and thin hair to begin with. Almost canceled and forfeited my deposit after reading a review of someone who lost hair on top of her head. But it's growing back after six months. Endotines are KEY. They take pressure off the incision.
I’ve heard mixed feedback about endotines. If the surgeon doesn’t overstretch the scalp a patient can get great results without them. I think it’s a surgeon preference thing. Dr. Jeffrey Epstein in NYC/Miami uses them. I wanted to go to him but he temporarily shut his NYC office down.
Definitely take any immune boosting meds your surgeon suggests. That could also speed up healing for you.
Looks a lot better! I think you should do another lowering to remove the huge scar. Transplants are expensive and you might need more than one round. Also they sometimes don’t grow through scars. I had transplants and regret them so much
Another hairline lowering would absolutely not be needed. I wouldn’t put my body through that again. I see you didn’t have a good experience w/ transplants in Turkey. Sorry to hear that. There are doctors in the US I’m considering, but that wouldn’t be for another 4-6 months from now. Best of luck with you next surgery. Hope you get the results you want!
Aw okay! Good luck to you also !!
It looks much better! Have you considered prp injections for hair loss in the scar? I've seen some good results with it.
Thank you! If I end up needing to get hair growth treatments, I plan to go the transplant route. My surgeon says I’m still healing so I’m hoping the hair starts to sprout around month six. Fingers crossed!
I’m going to Dr Natalie attenello in Beverly Hills. She makes the scar barely noticeable with her work.
Hello; Had my procedure on 10/29. Just wanted to leave a comment to say make sure you are using sunscreen on the scar or keeping it covered from sunlight. Mine is under a head band 24/7. Sunlight is BAD for scars. It will cause the scar to be pink or white or hyperpigmentation. I'm not even taking the chance with indoor light lol. My scar will be hidden for one year.
Hi Nated, how is the healing going? I'm also 6 days post opt from Dr.Gal. Did you experience any shock loss?
Congratulations on getting this done! It has changed my life and I'm not yet fully healed. No shock loss thank God. Healing nicely. Hairs growing through the scar. My scar has some pick areas (an inch on my left side) which I'm hoping will turn brown. I think it's just a matter of time. I was using scaraway silicone gel but I have switched to mederma based on someone's review here. Giving it till the end of April, which is my surgery anniversary.
