On August 19th, 2025 I had 4 procedures done by Dr. Yasin Kursad Varsak:
Rhinoplasty
Brow lift
Upper blepharoplasty
Hairline lowering
Choosing my surgeon:
I was looking for a surgeon who first and foremost had the skill and expertise to perform all the procedures I wanted, and also fell within my budget. For the hairline lowering in particular, there is a small number of surgeons who are able to do this procedure, and an even smaller number who specialize in this procedure or have the proper level of expertise to perform it and achieve good results. Obviously, I wanted a natural looking hairline that fit my face, and I did not want a nasty, obvious scar. Nerve damage and permanent hair loss are also risks with this surgery. It took me many years of research and searching through surgeons before I came across Dr. Varsak.
I have always been very open to the idea of medical tourism, but it had not been until the last few years that I came across Turkey as being a top recommended country for cosmetic medical tourism, with highly skilled and educated plastic surgeons at a very affordable price; I had previously considered many hospitals and/or surgeons in places such as Mexico, Brazil, Singapore, Belgium, China, and South Korea. I could never bring myself to fully commit, however, as there were always a few hesitations or reservations that prevented me from feeling comfortable enough to proceed with choosing a surgeon. After reading and viewing several positive reviews, blogs, vlogs, and online threads from many forums including Reddit, I began looking at plastic surgeons in Turkey, sifting through hundreds of surgeons found through many accredited sites and through general web searches. After cross referencing multiple websites, articles and review platforms, I finally narrowed my top choices down to 5; and based on the speed and manner (or lack thereof) of the communication and level of customer service I received in response to my initial inquiries, that number went down to 3. I was particularly drawn to Dr. Varsak because he specialized in head and neck surgery, as well as facial cosmetic surgery.
After initial consultations, I decided on Dr, Varsak based not just on his thorough and comprehensive answers to all of my questions, but also his kind, patient genuine demeanor.
Pricing and payment:
I was provided with a quote from the office immediately following my consultation, as well as details about their payment policies. Dr. Varsak's team was there to answer all of my follow up questions and concerns and they were all extremely helpful and responsive.
Altogether, it came to $11,120 and I paid a 10% security deposit fee to hold my appointment and secure the price, which went directly to the total and was deducted from it.
Payment from the US to Turkey was not uncomplicated - they have high transaction fees there that we were trying to avoid, but attempting to wire the deposit through Western Union led to multiple failures. Ultimately we went with a Zelle.
When it came time to pay the remaining balance, my options were to pay in cash at the desk or pay electronically with the addition of a very high transaction fee; but they were very understanding and accommodating when I expressed that I was extremely nervous about traveling with that much cash; as a compromise, they created a payment link where I was allowed to pay half of the remaining balance with no extra fees, and I did pay the rest in cash at the desk.
I feel it is also important to mention that my initial quote was honored - no hidden costs or sneaky fees, the prices also did not change. Private transportation from and to the airport, as well as 2 post surgery overnight stays in the hospital with constant bedside care and 3 meals a day, were included in the total cost quoted. The cost of pre-operative medical tests, post-operative medications, and hotel was not included in the price and this was made clear when I received my initial quote. The transparency was greatly appreciated.
Dr. Varask did discuss the payment process with me following my final appointment and said he will work to partner with a bank in the US to improve the process and make it much more streamlined in the future.
Level and Quality of Service and Care
I had a designated Aide who communicated with me and saw to my care from the very beginning following my initial consultation to arranging my final private transportation.
He was extremely friendly, patient, polite, and communicative and offered to help make hotel arrangements as well as helped to arrange for private transportation to and from the airport, transportation to and from my hotel in Gebze to the Dr's office, and to my pre-op appointments, as well as post-op to pick up prescriptions.
Inpatient, overnight care:
The first 48 hours of post surgery recovery are so critical when it comes to care, especially for nausea, swelling, bruising and bleeding, and I am so grateful I was not left to fend for myself during this time. I was in extreme pain and discomfort which only began to subside the morning leading up to my discharge, and the nurses ensured that I had the right mix and right kind of painkiller at all times to help ease my discomfort. They also helped me stay elevated and keep my eyes iced as much as possible. The whole team was attentive, compassionate and friendly and I felt very safe and well cared for during a painful, vulnerable time.
The recovery room I stayed in was also very clean, beautiful and spacious, with a beautiful view out of two sets of large windows. There was plenty of seating available, two tvs, and even a mini fridge, which came in very handy to store the perishable food I had to bring with me.
Dr. Varsak came in to check on me during my recovery twice - once following the surgery to check in on me and make sure I was okay, and let me know everything went really great and he was very happy with how it all turned out. He was genuinely happy to see that I was awake and recovering well, and very cheerful and positive overall. The second time was the morning just before discharge - he checked everything one more time, checked in with me on how I was doing, and cleaned up some crusting and excess blood as well as disinfecting. He also removed the splints in my nostrils. Following his care, the pain I was feeling around my incision sites was greatly reduced.
Results:
I am sharing my first update 3.5 weeks post surgery; my face has continually shifted and changed these last 3 weeks but I feel like overall everything has finally settled into its normal shape as far as swelling, stretching, etc.
My nose is still swollen, especially the tip, but even so it is still very obviously much smaller and more refined. Everything is healing normally and I have not experienced any unusual side effects or complications. I am VERY very happy with the results. Dr. Varsak truly did listen intently to everything I said as far as what I wanted and what I did not want and it looks exactly as I was hoping it would. I am SO thrilled with the results.
My eyelids are also healing very well and they have settled into a position that looks very natural. They are not underdone or overdone and I feel like the lid space looks very natural and really makes my eyes pop. I love how he made the incision at an angle, which gave my eyes a bit of a subtle, tilted almond shape in addition to increasing my lid space to give me a youthful, fresh look.
I love the position of my brows, which is also not too high nor too low, but makes such a huge difference. The position, shape and angle are very natural and flattering.
My hairline looks very natural - he was mindful about natural results and took extra time to take measures that would make the hairline look natural - it is also not too low, but was brought down enough that it makes a substantial difference and really improves the look of my entire face. The incision will continue to heal over the course of several months and my hope is that the final scar will be almost invisible. While there is numbness on the top of my head and I lost muscle control with my right eyebrow, these are known to be normal side effects and I am supposed to regain feeling in my scalp as the nerves regrow and reconnect, as well as my normal forehead and eyebrow movement.
