WORTH IT
After months and months and months of having my surgery cancelled and rescheduled I was soo thankful to finally have it done on March 12th 2021 in Sydney. I am so thankful for Dr Martinick, Dr Kotai and Teri for their wonderful bedside manner, kindness and friendliness. I have been wanting to get this done for many years and due to border restrictions I was constantly pushed back but wow am I so glad and so happy already with the results! I can already see how amazing the results are going to be and the hard and amazing work they did. Couldn’t recommend them more!!!!!

Day 1-4

Day 0. After light sedation I was worried I would be quite tired and nauseous as I tend to get nauseous under anesthetic but I was completely fine. I remember maybe 30% of my surgery as I had a good sleep due to not sleeping the night before. The worst part was the needle for the sedation (I hate needles!!) but other then that it felt like half an hour and it was actually 2 hours! Got slowly woken up and showed my results (immediate pictures) and I was super pleased. Dr Martinick, Dr Kotai and Teri worked really hard to ensure it was even, I ended up getting 2cm off and 2.5 on my side where it is higher. I walked over to the other room and was given the option for some chocolate and protein bars with my lunch which was delicious. Had my Apple juice with my first painkiller and had the big head net which made me look like a Telly tubby on. This was a bit uncomfortable (see picture) but I tied a big headscarf around and put my hood on. I had my mum with me and we walked back to the hotel (1.5km) which I was shocked I was fine to do but I felt great after!! I then propped myself up with cushions and had a bit of a nap before ordering food later. Overall no pain on this day and slept like a baby!
Day 1. Woke up not in much pain, I slept with a neck pillow too (highly recommend doing this) we walked back to the clinic to get the head stocking replaced to a head band! Felt absolutely fine, in the morning prior I even went shopping and tried on some new shoes to give you and idea of how easy this procedure really is on my body. Put a scarf on over the headband and went to the airport to fly home. I took only 1 of my three painkillers this day as I was feeling fine!
Day 2. Slept with neck pillow again and big European pillows propping me up, overall fine day, just stayed in bed and resting taking the occasional nap. Head band and bandage were annoying me but was able to shower with shower cap!
Day 3. Slept with neck pillow (going to do this for probably a week!) Had my mum assist me to remove head band and head bandage, head still quite swollen and bruised but super happy with my results. Started with washing of detol and aqueous cream but no pain just tightness!
Day 4. Slept with neck pillow. Feeling some tightness in my head, working from home so am doing half days but feeling pretty good just more tired than usual. No pain medication needed, applying aqueous cream but can see the scabbing process is starting to begin.

Let me know if you have any questions or want photos of anything specific :)

2 week update

Last week has been super super easy. Bruising has eased completely and I have been out and about not feeling self conscious about the scar that has evolved. Stitch removal was on Monday and I felt absolutely nothing, it was a very easy process (I had it done by a family member who is a nurse.) other than that I have been back to work properly, even attending meetings where no one has noticed!! Once again, if you have any questions please ask. It’s been such an easy recovery, I’ve felt relatively fine to go out in public with my hair down you can only see the peak of my head, which is a bit red but not noticeable at all. My friends who have known have been absolutely amazed at how amazing it looks! I’m so thankful to Dr Martinick, Dr Kotai and Teri!

Hey! I'm on day 5 of my recovery.. now that your stitches are out, what scar cream are you going to use? Trying to research as many different options as I can!

Hey! I was told to use the bepanthan scar cream with the roller. My surgeon mentioned to use it after a month and in a bit over a week away from that so that’s the main one I’ve considered. As from my research it’s really the rolling/massage over the top that assists with the healing! I’ve got a vitamin e cream as well I may use as that also promotes healing. But so far for me atleast it’s already healing really well by itself! Hope you’re recovery is going well :)

Hey! I am booked in for July surgery. I have a few questions if you don't mind.
Did you find you had any initial shock hair loss? Also, did you get very much swelling? Thanks so much!
April 9, 2021
Hey! Good luck!! That’ll come up so soon. I haven’t had any initial shock loss, they did have to shave my baby hairs around the scar area so that’s the only noticeable change. Swelling wise I only had it day 1&2 I really think sleeping with a big European pillow on a 40 degree angle with a neck pillow helped with this, I did this for 12 days! I sleep on my stomach so was worried about the friction of the pillow pulling scabs out :) (I’m also about to post pictures so you’ll see the hair growth around the scar line after 4 weeks)

Wow your update photo looks amazing!!! Are you happy you did it? Thanks so much for sharing your experience , makes me feel a little bit more at ease.

Hey! Thank you, it’s really barley noticeable which still amazes me! But yeah I’m so grateful and honestly is the easiest surgery I’ve done! Sedation and everything I have a huge fear of needles and I was terrified but it was so easy! Wishing you good luck, do let me know if you have any other questions!!!

Hello! I'm on day 2 post op and feel a bit worried as my eyes look a little different - raised or slightly surprised or something... did you notice this at all and did it all subside? Hoping it's just swelling raising everything!! Also, super paranoid about the size of my forehead but also feeling nervous about how different I look with a smaller forehead - almost like I need to get used to it! Did you feel that way? Stitches and not being able to see what I'll look like with hair styled is kind of hard.... I'm a bit emotional and hoping you can put my mind at ease!

Hey!! I completely understand your concerns my eyebrows were a bit much for a few weeks as they seemed super lifted! But honestly within a few weeks they were back to normal. With sizing I also didn’t tell a lot of friends and family and when I saw them they never mentioned I looked different or could notice it and that really helped, because I didn’t want it to be dramatic but we get used to seeing ourselves a certain way for so long it’s an adjustment but it’s the best decision I’ve ever made 100%. I even went out maybe 1 week after stitches and got my make up done professionally and the make up artist didn’t even notice the line but I did ask her to focus on that area as I was super anxious about it even with my hair down, honestly the first few days were rough too because I was so swollen and the area was scabby and my eyebrows look ridiculous but after the stitches I felt at ease. I definitely found myself changing my hairstyles while having my hair up as I was very worried about it being noticeable but within 6 months post op I could brush it completely back. It’s just playing around but trust me the best is yet to come as right now it’s really not a true representation of what it will look like and how you will adjust!
