SKINPEN- MICRO-NEEDLING Destroyed my Skin's Elasticity, Collagen, and Fat

I had my second treatment of micro needling with a pen device around 2 months ago and it literally killed my skin's elasticity, collagen, and fat. I had a nice skin before; just a few fine lines and wrinkles around my eyes when I smiled which was pretty normal for my age ( 45) and now I have wrinkles all around my face and when I smile looking like a clown. The esthetician who performed the 2 treatments did not have an explanation of why I have had these horrible results and just recommended to buy the skin care that they sell at the Dr. office ( of course it is super expensive) I have been using anti aging skin care by Eminence, getting Vitamins C facials every week, anti aging masques every day, and taking vitamins C and collagen; however, my skin is worst every day. Do not do it, you will regret it your whole life! I am super depressed and trying to go through this nightmare.

I wrote "before" " after" caption on each pics. Please take a look at the caption. Thanks.

Neither microneedling can improve neither can damage ur skin in just 15 days
August 4, 2017
I wish those pics were "fake" as you are suggesting, lady. I would not have my face ruined and I would not be going though this nightmare. However; not, my pics are not fake, and YES microneedling WITH the Pen device CAN DAMAGE YOUR SKIN ( or at MY SKIN) in 15 days and even right away.
August 7, 2017
All your replies have been lack of any knowledge and evidence based only on a few articles that you have found in internet. Starting with your first "reply" to my post stating " fake pics". What inappropriate is for you to "imply" (and say) that a person here who is taking her valuable time to write a review about her bad experience is posting "fake pics" showing the horrible results she got from the procedure. You need to have a "special mind" to dare implying something like that and even worst saying it without any scrupulous.
If you want to debate about this topic then let's debate; however, you will need more than a few malicious replies to debate with a person like me that beside of being highly educated, is dealing with "real results" from this procedure. So, do not just "replies" to member's posts because it is for free and you just have the need of feeling " knowledgeable and important" for a few minutes.
Finally, in any part of my replies to your "non-sense" comments , I have said that I that " derma roll is better than dermapen" ( as you wrote in your reply); I just said that they have different Protocols and maybe that is why your "dermatologist weekly administrated your treatments ( as you claimed) which I totally doubt since any medical doctors are going to put their licenses in risk for Medical Malpractice just to treat YOUR acne issues.
So, better if you educated yourself before just delivering malicious replies to other members who really are going through horrible times due to this treatment.
Finally, I am far from being a negative/hater person ( as your last non sense reply suggests); nonetheless, I am not going to allow a person who has no education neither personal experience in this subject to confuse other members with his ignorant replies
August 7, 2017
You should check out member " odettemustafa" ; unfortunately she also had same horrible reviews.
August 6, 2017
The same thing happened to me. Skinpen even made me look like I have acne scars because they went to deep.
August 6, 2017
Do you have any before/after pics? Did you skin get better after a few months?
August 6, 2017
I totally believe that the esthetician went too deep and it was too aggressive for my skin and that is why I got these horrible results.
August 6, 2017
I wish more women shared in this website their bad experiences with skinpen/dermapen; it would avoid other women going through this nightmare.

August 7, 2017
I think so, too. I did read that inexperienced estheticians can cause damage to skin. Have you had a second opinion somewhere as to what you can do? You don't want to go through the rest of your life feeling so terrible.
August 7, 2017
I have not , but I will soon.

August 7, 2017
oh my goodness! the person who administered the treatment must have not been experienced. My skin did improve. My heart goes out to you.
August 7, 2017
Thank you ...Well, she works at a dermatologist office and says that has long time doing this and that I am the "only" client that has had these bad results.. "Lucky me"
August 7, 2017
Did you have your treatment delivered with a pen or derma roll?
August 7, 2017
a pen. By a physician. She had me fill out a huge questionaire about my skin and did not go really deep with the pen. I was totally healed up in about 4 days. Trying to flatten out a surgery scar and overall skin improvement. I hate it when these "professionals" refuse to take responsibility for messing up. Don't give up.
August 26, 2017
Do you eat meat? I'm a vegetarian and I'm starting to believe that skin needs collagen from meat and broth.
March 3, 2018
Try going vegan my friends and I are, and have seen great improvements to our skin.

2 months after mocroneedling with Pen device

Anon04924
I Just took these new pics for those that think that my previous pics are " fakes" and say that microneedling with a pen device can not cause skin damage in such short time...Well Ladies, YES, all my pics are totally real and YES, microneedling with a device can cause this damage in your skin. Unfortunately this is how my face looks today. I wish with all my heart that all this horrible experience was not real though.
My skin has lost ALL its elasticity, collagen, and fat. Saggy skin and deep wrinkles under my cheeks, mouth, and chin. I also have big holes on my cheeks area and the marks of the pen. I literally look 30 years older :( Super depressing...I really wish that my body starts rebuilding " new collagen" soon.

Did you have any fillers in before your procedure...I think needling destroys the filler. My skin didn't look the greatest after my treatments either and I decided not to do more. I had 2. I would start using retin A and emu oil. It helped a lot
August 5, 2017
Thnks for your suggestions, I tried retin A before, but my skin got very irritated with it. I had fillers, but it was around 5 months before the first microneedling and only had it in my lips and smile lines, so I really do not believe it was the reason for these horrible results.
August 5, 2017
Do you have any " after pics"to share of your treatment? Is your skin better now?
August 5, 2017
I don't. My skin didn't loose as much elasticity, but I did feel that my skin looked worse with a lot of broken capillaries that took time to heal. If retin A is to harsh, use a good retinol and start low and work your way up to a stronger dose. Only use it 3xs a week to start. I know it's hard to get used to, but it really helps
August 6, 2017
Where did you order your emu oil? I heard there are some claiming to be emu oil and to be careful where you buy so that it's authentic.
August 11, 2017
Reverseskinaging.com is a good resource
August 11, 2017
Did your microneedling include any radiofrequency?
October 20, 2017
Make sure you don't use stuff that will clog pores.
August 5, 2017
Holy crap! I really wish you had put the location of where this was done. I live in Windermere and was planning on doing this.
August 5, 2017
It is Dermatology and Skin Cancer Center. My recommendation is do not do microneedling with a pen device. The reason I did it was because I read great reviews on this webiste, but now I realized that most of the reviews are based on microneedling with a derma roll and not with a pen. I think that that makes a big difference in the results.
August 5, 2017
Thank you so much for the reply! I agree with you, most reviews are not using the pen.
August 5, 2017
I completely believe you as I had a similar reaction to my second dermapen with PRP treatment. It created lines under my eyes where there were none and fine lines on my cheeks. I also tried to find out why my skin reacted that way but no one will give a straight answer. I feel like the treatment was done too aggressively. I've been using vitamin C, growth serums and ceramides to help the texture of my skin.
August 6, 2017
Thank you for sharing it with me! It means a lot! Have you had any improving on your skin after using those products? Did your skin ever looked the same as it used to look before the treatments? I am afraid that I will never get my skin's collagen and elasticity back. Do you have any " after pics". Thanks!
August 6, 2017
Yes can you give more detail of what you are using to heal.
August 7, 2017
Same here, i did dermaroller 1.0mm on my left side face near the upper lip. I rolled with slightest pressure until i see pinpoint bleeding, the weeks later i realised my pores are bigger and i can see lines of the track. I look older now and people always though i am eldest when they see me with my big brother. I did it almost a year now and no significant improvement.
August 8, 2017
I just had the second microneedling done about a month ago so I haven't been using the products long enough to really tell a difference. Honestly, I am about to go and get botox done because the lines under my eyes bother me so much. I am also talking with another doctor who specializes in microneedling for some extra help. This might sound completely crazy but I wanted to know if a less aggressive microneedling (with a dermaroller rather than the derma pen) might actually help correct the damage. Right now, I am doing research and am loading up on every single collagen building product that I can to fix it.
August 8, 2017
I hesitate in saying what I'm using because I'm not entirely sure that it's going to work but I just need to do something about my skin. I will create a post about my experience with the derma pen so that I can put in more details about my experience and my recovery (hopefully).

- Skinceuticals CE Ferulic (there are cheaper versions of vitamin c serums available online and they are almost as effective from what I've read).
- TNS Essential Serum
- Retinol
- Cerave PM Face Lotion
August 9, 2017
Sorry to hear about that you are going through the same hell as me. Please Keep Positive . Thanks for sharing!
August 9, 2017
I do not have an answer for that, but if I was you, I would not try microneedling again. It sounds like you did not get the results that you expected with the first treatment. Try facial with vitamins C and Eminence Peels which are super healthy ( made with organic products) and work pretty good.
August 10, 2017
I totally understand why you're saying that. I did three treatments total. The first one was not with PRP and it wasn't nearly as aggressive as the other two treatments. I didn't see the kind of damage the first time around as I did with the last two. I believe in the science behind the treatment but I also sure as heck believe that when done inappropriately it can do more harm than good.

Right now my skin is adjusting to the retinoid products that I'm using and I know that I'm using quality products. It won't be anytime soon. I'm giving my skin a chance to heal on its own first :)
September 21, 2017
I'm sorry but there's no way that a dermapen would magically "create lines" around your eyes. Worst case scenario it could cause drag marks from cheap devices, but it would not cause you to get expression lines that you didn't have previously. After treatment, while your skin is prepareing to peel it can exaggerate existing lines, but once that skin has peeled it will go back to how it looked before.

I think this whole original post is complete bs. A freaking dermapen isn't going to cause someone to gain that much excess skin. The poster had already had excess skin as you can see it in her previous posts, however the photos weren't up close to her cheeks and in bad angles/ lighting as they were after.

By judging from the pictures (both before and after) it looks as though she was/is a smoker or drinker and has not been adamant about sunscreen use or spent a decent amount of time in the sun.

I think it's more logical to assume that she lost a decent bit of weight and is also just aging. As no treatment can stop aging. You continue to age the day after your treatment and as you are getting it done.

Yes sometimes dermapens can yield bad results due to inexperience, using 2mm needle depth on the whole face instead of a single scar, getting treatments to frequently, not changing needles or using sterile equipment or a patients skin not responding well to treatment, but claiming that a dermapen will cause THIS extreme of a change to skin is just rediculous, especially after two treatments. So I advise real self readers to take this post with a grain of salt.

Hi. Mr. Google! How is your skin now? I wanted to try at home dermarolling but your story is scaring me. I have acne scars pretty bad. I have medium brown oily skin that is on the thicker side with large pores. I read that oily skin does not heal as well, and that pores heal by getting larger. I guess not even dermarolling is a solution for me. How sad I am because my skin is a mess and one term said "it looks like your skin had a war on it". I will never forget that. I truly understand somewhat of what the patients that have had their faces ruined by money hungry, ethics and empathy lacking, lying doctors. What ever happened to " first do no harm"?
October 23, 2017
this post is microneedling with a device/pen not a dermaroller. if you'd like to do in-house dermarolling, might want to visit a clinic and get a thing or two out of the aesthetician before doing it on your own. i know other member who does it and it works for her. we have the same skintype reading from your other posts so i would not dare doing even a dermarolling on my own.
October 23, 2017
hi roothy, i just know that oily skin won't heal as well as other type of skin and pores heal by getting larger. where do you get that info?
December 31, 2017
Mr Google, 1.0 is truly a clinical depth and should only be used by a professional and only in certain areas of the face. At home use should only be a .25mm max for product penetration. I'm not a fan of the rollers as they are re-used, possibly with dull needles. They are generally so fine, dull easily. Picture trying to cut steak with a plastic knife? You will damage the epidermis, worse yet, the dermis if you go too deep. Some professional chemical peels might help your texture, lots of hydration.

I 100% agree with you!

Since I have published my story here, I have received many messages from other women saying that they have had the same bad experience with this treatment. I wish more women shared their bad experiences with skinpen/dermapen in this website; it would avoid other women going through this nightmare. Most of the reviews here tell amazing experiences from this treatment and that is why I wanted to try it.

You should also say the name of the esthetician or Dr. who practiced this treatment so that other persons don’t ever go there
August 11, 2017
You are right ! Just tried to edit the doctor info and was not successful. Any ideas ?
It is Dermatology & Center Cancer in Windermere . The treatment was provided by the Esthetician.
October 10, 2017
I'm so sorry and your so pretty! It's just a lesson learned. Your skin will hopefully recover. I just had one today and was being urged to but 2 more, I actually wanted to try a peel but was told micro with prp is better. Well, on my way home I had regrets....my face is red and hot. Tonight it feels tight and HOT! I've never done any facial work on face. I have a bad feeling, while it may fix one area the other areas might get worse. Just saying. It's truly sad to get coaxed into these things, people LISTEN to her review! It might not be what you want to hear but it's the truth. Microneedling should be used in severe issues such as severe acne scars. I honestly feel like Ive been dragged across the road on my face..ugh. and then they tell you to be gentle on your face. See the contradiction. My advice peels only in doctors office! They to can damage if with the wrong person.
October 13, 2017
You know for the next person reading my above comment about microneedling. I'm at day 4 and to be honest, I've seen improved skin. I have zero reason to lie. I am a super paranoid of skin care after seeing the horror storys. I went to a master ethitician. At first when I left I was like... oh know...my face was red and looked parched. Honestly my pores are mildly reduced but my skin is not as donut textured,so better, check the reviews of who does the skin!
October 15, 2017
Glad you are having good results from skinpen-microneedling! As I shared in my profile, the results after my first treatment was good and that is why I decided to get a second one.

I would love to see before/after pics.
October 15, 2017
Again skin looks way better. My advice is look at the women who do your skin. If there skin looks good and they are masters at it, go for it. Honestly, these horrors story's are probably rare cases because think about it, why would clinics keep these items if they caused damage. Get the right worker!
October 16, 2017
Dear Canabis,
I would love you to share pics of your skin before and after microneedling administrated with a "skinPen" device.
On the other hand, the office where I got my treatment is " Dermatology and Skin Cancer Center" owned by Dr Hudgen who is a very well known Dermatology in one of the most expensive area in Orlando, Florida. So, I really do not think that the " clinic" was the issue. I spoke with her about the horrible results; however, she had no idea why it happened to me.
Can you share some of your before/after pics?
October 25, 2017
Oh I hadn't seen your request for picture, I will try to....however I'm angry at my self because I didn't do a before which is so important. I was going to do a outside pic of side of face and after for my records and didnt. To be honest with you, in the end I think I've got improvement in some areas where some will return to blah.
It's so distressing to have faith in a group of doctors to get ruined by them. Uggh! Faith will help!
October 25, 2017
Canabis, if you do not have "before' pics taken right before the treatment at the doctor office then you can look for any pic taken by you ( or friends) before the treatment. I am curious to see the improving since nobody in this website has posted pics showing good results with the skinpen ( DermaPen, Eclipse, etc). I have received some replies claiming wonderful results, but nobody has pics to show it. Thanks.
October 27, 2017
Hi, I'm so sorry, I'm not ignoring you, I hope I didn't appear rude in any post (certainly didn't mean it). I'm considering leaving a review with real self on my micropen/prp treatmeant. See I wanted to get full sun light on side of face showing pores and mild nut noticeable donut textured skin. Still I may show after, I don't have any comparable before tbh. Have faith your skin will bounce back better.
December 27, 2017
Day 4 is too early to say you see improvement. They say the results take up to 1 tear to develop.... However some of the destruction might show/shows earlier.

This site is full of too early judgements. They should ban the rating till enough time has passed.
December 28, 2017
Yes, I have heard that before. It seems like the people who claim “ wonderful” results with skinpen never took pics of themselves before and after the treatment . Interesting !
December 28, 2017
2017user, not sure to what you are referring with “ Day4”. I had my skinpen treatment around 8 months now and my FFT around 7 weeks.
Please ladies read the whole journey before posting . comments . Thanks

caro34: I replied to canabis who wrote " I'm at day 4 and to be honest, I've seen improved skin." that's what I replied to. Sorry about the confusion.

hi canabis, i just came back from summer holiday (but in a country where the summer is breezy though the day is shiny). i see an improvement in texture very quickly. this is after i became a hermit for months after my laser procedure in Sept last year. so do try to be out in the sun just for a moment. it's great for our body and soul too :)
