I can’t speak enough praise for the MiraDry...

I can’t speak enough praise for the MiraDry system. I hope this review helps others choose the treatment method that’s right for them, and help those who are considering MiraDry. All of the community reviews on this forum convinced me to choose this procedure and answered a lot of questions and cured a lot of anxiety.

I have suffered from hyperhidrosis since my early teen years. I would heavily soak any shirt I had on. I would often avoid light colors/white as staining was obvious after only a couple of wears. Grey was out of the question because of how much you could see my sweat soaked pits. Bright solid colors, or black was the only thing that I could wear to hide it the best. I actually didn’t know it was a medical condition until very recently. I essentially got tired of always being self conscious about my sweat and started Google searching it. Like most everyone here, I too tried all of the remedies. Rotating brands of deodorant every two days, prescription strength over the counter deodorant, doctor prescribed deodorant, baby powder, everything - nothing gave lasting results. I looked into plastic surgery to “scrape” my glands away, but didn’t choose this because they essentially “guess” that they got them all. I looked into Botox because my insurance covered some of this. I’ve heard the Botox works great but you have to go in for repeat injections. I’ve also heard that the Botox actually doesn’t work after using it a while and then you’re stuck back at square one. My sweating became exceptionally heavy under stressful situations, even when doing nothing physically demanding, like job interviews. My sweat logged pits and shirts were a conscious thought ALL OF THE TIME. It was literally exhausting and frustrating to make an effort to hide my armpits all of the time to avoid embarrassment. I could be sitting on the couch watching TV in an air-conditioned room, and my pits would be wet. It was a guarantee every day that I would have wet shirts, sometimes even changing shirts in the afternoon.

There are about 6-7 offices in Michigan that offer MiraDry. One office is five minutes from my house. I called all of the offices and was quoted prices. Most were around $2800-3000 for a total of two rounds. I called the Skin and Vein Center: Dr. Eric Seiger, located in Fenton, MI. Stacy does all of their MiraDry procedures. I can’t say enough good things about her. She spent about 10 minutes on the phone with me answering all of the questions I had, never sounding patient and wanting to make sure I didn’t hang up without answering all that she could. Stacy is a certified MiraDry specialist, meaning she put herself through extra training and more extensive testing to earn this title. That, and a quote of $2300 convinced me to drive the 100 miles to her office to have it done. Stacy did both of my procedures. She is honestly the best; I wish every MiraDry patient could have her. She is very knowledgeable about the system, and kept me relaxed.

FIRST TREATMENT:

The first treatment went very well. I had 53 numbing shots in each armpit. I was a little anxious for the treatment, and I was going to start at a level 3 or 4. She never pressured me but she recommended that I jump right up to level 5 for my first treatment. The amount of seconds the system is “nuking” the sweat glans is minuscule compared from a level 4 to 5. Plus, I wanted to get my monies worth! From what I remember there were about 15-20 placements of the wand on each side. It was surprisingly not as bad as I was anticipating. You can definitely feel the wand get warm during its phases, but completely bear able. There were only a few spots near the outsides of my pits where it got a little “hot” but it only lasted for a split second before it was done. The whole process took about two hours. The worst part of the whole thing was the numbing shots. I received the shot in my rear end to help with the swelling, and I followed her recommendation for icing and taking ibuprofen. I iced my arms for the rest of the day, as well as nearly all day the following day. The next day, my pits were definitely swollen and puffy - very strange looking. Aside from a LITTLE tender, there was really no pain! The tenderness went away after a day or two and I was left with puffy/swollen pits that eventually subsided to normal after a week or two.

I had an extended amount of time between my first and second treatment. After my first treatment, I had no sweat from my armpits! Stacy said that this would be normal and some sweating would come back after a couple of months after the remaining sweat glans “woke up” from their shock. I would work hard – basketball, working outside in the sun, renovating houses. I would sweat everywhere else that I normally do but my pits would stay completely dry! I couldn’t even believe it. After about three months and continued extensive physical labor, there were only TWO instances that I would see sweat in the pit areas of my shirts. The sweat that was there was barely noticeable and was NOTHING like before. It was such a small amount that I had to look hard at my shirt to see if it was moist. I had about a 90% drop in sweating! This was such a drastic change I couldn’t be happier. It was such a positive change that I was thinking about not doing my second treatment. I ended up doing the second treatment anyways because I wanted to make sure I got ALL of the glands that I could because I knew how bad I used to.

SECOND TREATMENT:

I had my second treatment about 5 months after my first. It had nothing to do with my recovery but for other non-related reasons. I was extremely looking forward to my second treatment to zap the final amount of glands that could remain. I had the treatment about 1-½ weeks ago from writing this review. It could not have gone any better! It lasted for about one hour this time. This time I was given about 60 numbing shots in each arm due to some sensitivity in some spots the last time. Again the shots were the worst part, only because they stung every so often. During the placements of the wand, I felt NO hot spots in either arm. I elected to do level 5 again. After ten placements I actually had to ask Stacy if she put it on level 5 again because it was completely bearable! I took the shot in my rear again to help with swelling and iced during my drive home and for a couple of hours that night.

The next day, it was almost as if I didn’t even have the procedure done! My pits barely swelled and there was NO tenderness, no pain, and no discomfort. I actually went to work the next day where I have to wear body armor and I nearly forgot that I had the procedure done almost 24 hours prior. I didn’t ice on any day after the first and the minor amount of swelling that was there was gone within about three days. It’s been about 1-½ weeks since my second treatment and of course I don’t have any sweating. After the shock wears off in a few months, I am anxious to see how much, if any sweating comes back. It was such a little amount before my second treatment that there can’t be many glands left.

I can’t believe how much of a life changing experience this process has been. This has been money very well spent and well worth it. If only this system was available earlier in my life! I can now wear light colored shirts, grey shirts, and white shirts that won’t stain. I feel completely comfortable in dress clothes and confident that I’m not soaked anymore.
