2nd fat transfer complete

It has been a long time coming, but I finally completed the 2nd fat transfer about 1 week ago. I got sick before the previous surgery dates so the procedure had to be pushed out. The staff was very nice and accommodating even after multiple reschedules. I've added a few pics to show how the first fat transfer was holding up after 2 years, plus a current pic now that I'm about a week out from surgery. This time fat was harvested from my abs and thighs. Those areas are slightly easier to recover from because they are on the front side of the body. When I had lipo from my hips and flanks everything was on the back side, so it was more uncomfortable to sit and transition postures. Things went mostly the same as last time, except they've changed the prescriptions so there is less nausea when waking up, and they told me to keep compression on my breasts for 3 months when last time they didn't want any garments to be too tight. They also put foam over my abs to help with the healing. 470 cc's were transferred to each breast, and I'm loving the results so far! I haven't been able to get pics of the lipo because everything is covered by the garments but I'll post more updates in a few weeks as things progress.

7 month update

It’s been 7 months and everything is going strong! I took out the censors so the results are easier to compare (I had to delete pics and re-add, so apologies for any issues with the time line). There have only been minimal changes since the 3 month mark. I have been running, doing yoga, weight training, and HIIT. It felt weird at first running, lifting heavy items, laying on my stomach, doing chest isolations, etc., but that was more in my head than anything else. After a few weeks I felt more confident, and less like I was going to damage them at every turn. The large lump in my left breast is still present and I mentioned this when they called for the 3 month follow up. Dr. Bednar called me later that evening and suggested a day trip to the office so they can check it out. When I arrived, they got me in a back room and Dr. Bednar manually inspected the area and confirmed I have a knot in my left breast where the worst of the scarring was before. He suspected it was scarring and not a cyst, but he did a mild injection of numbing on each side of it, and then went in with a larger needle to aspirate any liquid. I was nervous about the pain but the needle for the numbing was so tiny I hardly felt it, and when he went in with the larger needle I was numb and couldn’t feel a thing. He tried both sides but couldn’t get anything out, which indicated we are dealing with scar tissue and not a cyst. To be 100% sure he did an ultrasound and confirmed the area is completely solid. I decided to do a 2nd surgery because this will give him a chance to break up the remaining scar tissue further, fill in the area with fat cells, and build on what is already here. We looked at areas to harvest and decided to do the stomach and inner thighs. He looked to see if he could use fat from the original lipo areas, but promptly turned me back around and said that was perfect and we wouldn’t be touching anything there. He doesn’t think he’ll have enough to transfer 400 cc’s again, we’ll probably get about 250 – 350. My frame is small so another round of 400 would probably make them too big anyway. I’m more motivated to work on the scarring on the left side, and add a little more volume throughout. My goal is to get them back to how they looked 1 month after the first fat transfer. He said the results at this stage are permanent. I have scheduled the next surgery for late January 2022 (that’s how far out they are booked)! Part of the reason is COVID, a lot of international patients had to reschedule so they are backed up trying to accommodate these, in addition to the new patients they are receiving. My schedule is flexible since I’ll be driving, so I’m on a wait list in case something earlier becomes available. I will post more if anything noteworthy happens, or with updates after the second surgery!

3 Month Update

3 months later………..

What a journey. I never knew 3 months could feel so long. My breasts have decreased since the 6 week mark. I started the procedure measuring 32A (barely) and now I’m measuring 32C. They are beautiful! They are filled on top and the sides but very natural looking. Could they be bigger? Well yeah, of course, lol, but size was not my goal. My goals were to fill in the sunken in appearance of my breasts, release the scarring from my explant surgery, even out the a-symmetry, and add a little volume. The procedure accomplished all of that and more. If your main goal with fat transfer is size increase just be aware of the limitations of this procedure. It is rare to see a significant size increase with just one procedure, it usually takes multiple surgeries to get the desired result. This surgery is expensive, the recovery is tedious, there are risks of irregularities with liposuction, the long term affects are basically unknown, lumps are common, and with all of that the size increase is pretty modest. I am still very happy, but it’s a lot of investment for a small gain.

Some of the negatives, the scars at my breasts and lipo areas are still pretty obvious, and though they’ll fade over time they’ll always be here. I have a good-sized squishy lump in my left breast that is slightly smaller than a golf ball (the lump in the right breast has gone away). I have knots in my right-side waist and sometimes I feel a tingling sensation there. These issues were expected, and I can live with them. What I couldn’t live with was how my breasts looked before. I plan on trying to have the cyst drained if it does not resolve on its own. I am still massaging the crap out of the knots daily and I am hopeful they will smooth out over time. I’m not sure if flank lipo is more intense than hip lipo, if it’s because he was more aggressive in this area, or just bad luck, but the flank lipo has been 10x worse to recover from than the hip lipo. I never developed knots or dimpling in my hips and the feeling has completely returned, whereas I have dimpling and knots on my right side waist and persistent numbness in my lower back and sides. The lipo looks great, I can feel the issues more than I can see them. The changes to my figure are subtle but very nice. I’m hoping my right side waist gets whipped into shape over time, but even if it doesn’t it’s an overall improvement from before.

Let’s chat about the hip/booty lipo for a minute, because I know this is a hot topic for a lot of you. Probably because most women who are considering BFT clearly like curves/lady lumps. I mentioned this in my first posting, and even included a video, but Dr. Bednar likes to go to the hips because they have a high concentration of stem cells. Stem cells transfer best and they seem to “stick” more than others. In most fat transfer reviews half a cup to a full cup increase is standard, but with Dr. Bednar it is not uncommon to see a full cup to 2 cup increase. He seems to get better results and better retention because of the technique he uses. Going into this my preference was to harvest from my flanks, stomach, and inner thighs and leave my butt alone. I really liked my pre-surgery booty and didn’t want to take that risk. I also think the 2 symmetrical incision points at the butt crease are highly obvious and difficult to cover with a swim suit. I mentioned this to Dr. Bednar during the phone consult and he argued his case, saying I probably wouldn’t get the results I wanted if I tried to adjust the way he did the lipo. I hesitated booking with him and looked around for a comparable surgeon, but I kept coming back to him. His aesthetic for the female form is incredible, and he can deliver results that I could not find elsewhere. On top of that he seems to specialize with my situation (thin, athletic, previous explant damage). I figured he does things a certain way for a reason, and has clearly proven success with his technique, so instead of trying to adapt his technique and end up with subpar results I took the plunge and booked with him. I am super happy with my booty after lipo but it was the most nerve-wracking part of the whole process for me. There are lots of great fat transfer surgeons out there, and a lot specifically don’t like to harvest from the hips, so if you are really uncomfortable taking from this area you might want to find someone who will perform the procedure exactly to your specifications. I’m not saying Dr. Bednar won’t adjust the lipo, I’m just saying it might be a bit of a battle.

The office said I would have full retention at 3 months, and that I can resume all normal exercises at this point. I am going to test that claim and see what happens after I incorporate cardio, weight training, plyometrics, yoga, and an occasional alcoholic drink into my lifestyle. I’ll be posting again in a few months with the results, fingers crossed!
