A Superstar Surgeon for the Transgender Community
I met with Dr. Rolfes and his team in May 2019 at their Wayzata, Minnesota, location.
I am a post-operative transgender woman, male-to-female (I’ve now had all my gender reassignment surgeries and every other gender affirming surgery in the book to complete my entire transition).
He is extremely LGBTQ-friendly and is well known in the transgender community, particularly here in the Minneapolis-St. Paul area. That said, I still did my homework on him prior to our first meeting, and there was maybe one, two or possibly three unpleasant experiences that others had with him.
Dr. Rolfes performed the *entire* suite of facial feminization surgeries (FFS), vocal feminization surgery (VFS), a further breast augmentation (BA) that also added a more natural looking cleavage to my breasts and chest, and finally a touch-up of liposuction under my chin related to his FFS that originally had made my face not as rounded and symmetrical as I would've liked.
From start to finish, my experience was nothing but A+++. Dr. Rolfes and all his staff are kind, caring, funny, chatty and will bend over backward to meet your specific cosmetic goals. They accept most insurance plans, including mine that was not in-network, and will go to bat for you to get procedures covered, while minimizing your out-of-pocket expenses. If your insurance is not in-network with him, he and his staff will move heaven and earth to get your insurance to pony up some money. I was covered fully at 100% by insurance, so I cannot speak to how his office may or may not work with folks who need to pay cash or set up a payment arrangement plan.
His work was phenomenal. I had mainly feminine features to begin with, so the work he did was certainly intense and brought clearly noticeable and stunning results in all of the surgeries I mentioned I had through him, but perhaps less intense in the sense that I didn’t have typical male features that needed major, major correcting.
I did wind up become very ill after my FFS and VFS in Sept. 2019, but there was no evidence that the infection in my jaw was the fault of Dr. Rolfes, or whether it was simply the huge amount of ailments I’ve had since I had my gender reassignment surgery in Dec. 2018. Either way, he took complete ownership of the problem, even as I was admitted to the hospital for a few days because of the severity of my illness.
While in the hospital, Dr. Rolfes attempted to make contact with my treating doctors and also provided me a way to contact him directly if the need arose. I was simply stunned at how a doctor and plastic surgeon could care so much about one patient.
Then came all the short term disability and return to work paperwork. Although I don’t think any doctor or their staff are thrilled to do this, they were lightening fast on getting the paperwork completed and submitted on my behalf.
Dr. Rolfes and his staff were excellent on follow up and ensuring all my recoveries were going well. Any communication with them is always friendly, prompt and addresses the issue — and any needed plan of care — with ease.
Overall, I am 99.99% satisfied with all his work. I would like to revisit my VFS with Dr. Rolfes once the COVID-19 pandemic subsides and his practice can once again perform elective surgeries. I only want to revisit my VFS because of *my* personal preferences on its outcome (and because my insurance covers 100% of any work he does!)
Overall, Dr. Rolfes and his staff are the best of the best with it comes to any transgender-related surgeries. They’re all entirely professional, witty, funny and genuinely want to see you achieve whatever transition goals you may have in the way of cosmetic surgery.
I’ve included some before and after pics of me to help give a real-life flavor of what I looked like, what I look like now and what you may look like directly after your procedure(s).
Cheers,
Bailey
