More photos
I saw Dr Bart again a few days ago and he took some better "after" photos. (The last ones were taken immediately before electrolysis and just after a small hair transplant so not idea.) I've added these and also some photos that were taken one week after my FFS surgery in December 2018 showing the extent of swelling and bruising. The final picture with the hairband shows how any hairline scar is virtually invisible. Likewise, scars from my facelift carried out in May 2019 (only about eight months ago) appear non-existent. Again, I'm very happy with the results and would highly recommend 2Pass Clinic!
Great Experience at 2pass Clinic with Dr Bart Van De Ven
I have to admit that Dr Bart van de Ven and the 2Pass Clinic weren’t my first choice when it came to FFS. Soon after I started looking into surgeons, I set my heart on another European organisation. However, my consultation with them left me feeling underwhelmed for some reason and before putting down a deposit I felt I owed it to myself to see some other surgeons. By chance, Dr Bart was coming to London and I managed to get a last-minute consultation with him, albeit with the main intention of ruling him out and reinforcing my initial choice.
I couldn’t have been more wrong and Dr Bart’s consultation filled me with confidence in him and 2Pass, as it seemed so much more tailored to my requirements, unlike the first consultation I’d had in which I felt I was offered a standard package of procedures. Furthermore, Dr Bart proposed a second round of surgery including lower blepharoplasty (something I was desperate to have done), facelift and cheek implants. Even with that, his total cost was still lower than the other quote. Based on his excellent consultation, this time I didn’t hesitate and I transferred my deposit to 2Pass within a couple of days.
I cannot speak highly enough of my not one, but now three stays at the 2Pass guesthouse! I stayed there for my initial FFS in December 2018, for my facelift and blepharoplasty in May 2019 and again in July 2019 when I acted as a guinea pig and let them practice their first hair transplant on me. The rooms and communal areas are fantastic and are modern, comfortable, well-equipped and spotlessly clean. All the staff there are amazing and are so attentive, especially Petra who lives there full-time and looks after the patients so well and with so much kindness. Being in the environment of the guesthouse with other patients around made so much difference, especially to the recovery period, and I was fortunate to have met some lovely people during each stay there. I would especially recommend this for anyone, like myself, travelling alone for surgery.
Regarding the surgery itself, I am very happy with the results. In the first surgery, I had a type 1 forehead recontouring with hairline recontouring, browlift and orbital rim shaving, rhinoplasty, lip lift, chin and jaw recontouring, tracheal shave and nasolabial lipofilling. Then, almost five months later, I returned for the facelift, lower blepharoplasty and implants for cheek augmentation. Also, Dr Bart further reduced my upper lip slightly. Surprisingly, I felt little pain both times. The greatest discomfort and inconvenience were from the jaw surgery, but other than that it was just lots of swelling and bruising. Oh, and a constantly running and blocked-up feeling nose for a while!
After both surgeries, the swelling took some while to go down and each time lasted several months at least. I am incredibly happy about scarring, or rather lack of. Straight-away, I could see that the forehead incision was very fine. Furthermore, it is fractionally behind the hairline and now after almost a year doesn’t really show at all. My lip lift scar is slightly visible on close inspection, but this was redone in May, so only six months ago. The tracheal shave scar is probably the most detectable but is right up under my chin and so certainly isn’t obvious. The facelift scars, again only six months old, are also incredibly faint, especially where not inside the hairline.
If I was to be hyper critical of anything, I would say that I do at times feel ever so slightly saggy under my chin and around my mouth, as though the facelift could have gone a little further. However, I’d much rather that than it go the other way and look overdone and unnatural. Also, I’m still having regular electrolysis and that causes quite a bit of temporary swelling to the face and neck and affects my skin. Overall though, I am incredibly happy with everything, especially my forehead, the way my eyes now appear more open, my new nose, and big reduction in what was previously an enormous Adam’s apple. And for that, I can’t thank Dr Bart enough.
In terms of transition, it is a slow process for me, especially electrolysis and growing back hair after a couple of small transplants. But I feel it is starting to come together and, although FFS isn’t the be all and end all, it already makes an immense difference to how I feel about myself and my appearance. Whenever I experience some dysphoria and frustration at the slow pace of transition, all I have to do is look at a photo of myself from before I met Dr Bart and compare with now and a big smile comes to my face thanks to the vast improvement he has made to it!
