No Longer Self-conscious of my Dark-circles!
Since I was around 14, I noticed how dark and severe my under-eyes looked, particularly in certain lighting or if my face was reflected in certain dark windows. It felt like they were set into my face and I couldn't cover them with concealer because of the lack of volume and thin skin. I was tempted to get filler many times but never followed through. Finally, after a few years of consideration, I decided to get a fat transfer for more permanent and natural results.
Since I live in Seoul, there's no shortage of options but I decided to go with Dr Lee at Sketch Plastic Surgery after seeing he performed the same procedure on YouTuber Megan Moon and Tony Medina from Seoul Guide Medical. I wanted someone who was experienced operating on western faces and experienced in fat transfer so he seemed perfect. His demeanour is extremely calming and he was honest about which areas would be good for fat transfer and which wouldn't and overall left a very good impression that I could trust him with the surgery.
He recommended under-eye fat repositioning as well as the fat transfer and said I should do at least 2 sessions. I know this is common for fat grafting, but due to my nerves and lack of recovery time, I've only opted for one so far. After one month, there is still a small amount of swelling in my cheeks but so far I'm happy with the results.
Those close to me don't notice the difference but to me it's huge. I notice especially when I'm in places like elevators or the subway with harsh overhead lighting and don't cringe at my reflection anymore. I can also use makeup to actually cover the remaining dark circles now whereas before it felt useless. The dark circles aren't completely gone but I don't feel like they take over my whole face anymore.
My recovery process was mostly smooth with minimal pain except for when I touched the swollen area or my thigh where the fat was taken from. I bruised quite a lot, especially my right eye, and this took over 2 weeks to completely disappear. Luckily, I had anticipated this and did the surgery during my school's winter break. Most of the major swelling was gone within a week. There is a tiny scar on my bikini line from the lipo but it seems to be healing well and is smaller than I expected. I developed some tiny, hard bumps under my eyes about 3 weeks after surgery but they weren't visible (I only noticed when I touched the area) and have since disappeared. I assume it was some of the fat that didn't make it :(
I hope that the results I see now will be similar to my final results. Because of the swelling at the start, it's hard to say how much fat I've lost already but hopefully there won't be much more. If you are considering fat transfer in Korea, I highly recommend Dr Lee Woosung and Sketch Plastic Surgery!
