Dr. Potparic has performed periorbital fat grafting for over 25 years with good results. The most significant problem with fat grafts is their unpredictability; an average of 30% of injected fat in the periorbital area will survive after 8-12 months and stabilize.
Some patients may need additional fat grafting usually 8-12 months after the first procedure to build up the necessary volume. This is always discussed as a possibility with the patient before the first fat grafting procedure. If additional fat grafting is needed it is considered a separate procedure and charged 50% less than the first. This fee includes the surgical fee, facility fee, and local anesthesia; if twilight anesthesia is needed or requested by the patient, an additional charge is added since this involves the service of the anesthesia provider. Secondary fat grafting requires an operating room, specific instrumentation some of which are disposable and relatively expensive, and 2 assistants to harvest and process the fat graft. The expense of the secondary procedure is the same as the first fat grafting. This fee schedule is discussed with every prospective patient before first fat grafting procedure and again when second fat grafting is considered. We believe that in the case of this particular patient there must be some misunderstanding and apologize for that.
