Dr. Lee Restored My Confidence

WORTH IT
For most of my 30s, I felt very self conscious about my neck and jawline. I avoided wearing my hair up or any clothing that might draw attention to my neck. I tried threads, Morpheus 8, Evoke, and other non-invasive, costly treatments. I also tried losing weight to the point of being underweight, just to see if that was the problem. I'd only see a subtle improvement, at best. I felt like my neck and jawline did not reflect how old I felt, how well I took care of myself, or how old I really am.
Rather than continue to spend money trying additional non-invasive treatments, I decided a lower facelift and neck lift was my best option. I wanted a doctor who specializes in lower facelifts and neck lifts and found Dr. Lee through RealSelf. I liked that all of his patients had a very natural outcome.
My consultation was in August and I immediately booked my surgery for March. During my consultation, I really liked that Dr. Lee asked me to look in the mirror and point out to him what concerned me about my face. He did not jump in and point out my "flaws". We only discussed what I notice and dislike about my own face. (I only mention this because I have a few things I am very critical about now as a result of unsolicited comments from other doctors. I don't need anything else pointed out to me that I might not already be aware of!) And he did not push the surgery, he was very genuine in his assessment of my features. He even suggested that I might be satisfied with the results of profound RF given that I'm on the younger side for a facelift but I really just wanted to invest in the most dramatic and guaranteed outcome, with the understanding that there would be some scarring.
The recovery was relatively easy. There was a little pain but nothing the pain killers didn't resolve. The only rough parts for me were the side effects of the IV sedation and pain killers (I tend to get very nauseous) and having to take it easy for several weeks. But overall, given that my face was literally sliced open, I was surprised that I felt pretty normal after a few days. It's been a month and I still have some numbness and tightness, as well as some stinging from my nerve endings re-awakening. But nothing unmanageable. My scars are still healing so l feel it's still too early to assess those, but on one side they are already barely noticeable.
Was it worth it? Absolutely. I was hoping for my neck and jawline to reflect my actual age, but I feel like this surgery took 10 years off my face. I don't cringe when I catch my face in the mirror. I feel like wearing makeup and dressing up again. It's funny that my loved ones would tell me I was beautiful and didn't need the surgery whereas I felt such contempt for this part of my face that it tainted every day of my existence. While getting this surgery didn't fix all of my problems, now I have a pep in my step. I'm thrilled with my results. Dr. Lee is an artist. When I look at myself, nothing looks alien or unnatural, it's like seeing my best memory of myself looking back at me. I almost have to pinch myself.

You look great! How are the scars healing up?

Thank you! They're still a bit red, especially behind the ears, and the one under my chin is raised a little. I saw my dermatologist this week and she said they're very well done and healing nicely. I'm a little self conscious to wear my hair up but otherwise they don't bother me. I am still diligently applying the scar cream and avoiding the sun. Nobody has noticed them, I had to point them out to my in laws :)

Just wanted to add that I went to the dermatologist for something unrelated, not because of the scars.

I had my surgery with Dr. Lee four days ago. I showered yesterday but felt like I wasn't able to get much of the gook out of my hair. How often did you wash your hair?

Hello! I am just checking in to see how you are liking your results as time has passed. I am considering a lower facelift with Dr. Lee and wondering how your scars around our ears and hairline are doing. Let me know and thank you so much!

You’ll be in wonderful hands if you choose Dr. Lee! Dr. Lee’s team is super caring and responsive. They call and email to make sure you remember appointments and complete all your pre-op requirements (labwork, ekg, Covid test), spend time with you during appointments to go over and questions you might have, etc. They are very reassuring on surgery day if you’re at all nervous. They are always happy to answer any questions you might have. And Dr. Lee is, of course, also very attentive and caring and takes the time to answer your questions and make sure you are well taken care of both before and after your surgery.

Absolutely beautiful results! Can you share more about the details of the procedure(s) that you had + recovery time? I am in the SoCA, and would also love to know how/why you chose Dr. Lee. There are so many good surgeons in the area, it’s hard to make a choice without a personal recommendation.

Thank you! I live in LA but chose Dr. Lee because this is his specialty and I loved how natural his patients look. I also really wanted to use local anesthesia, not general, which he offers. I actually met with Dr. Lee before consulting with anybody else and really liked him and his team and just went with my gut and booked him right away.
I found him though Real Self not by personal recommendation but I read through all of his reviews and comments on the reviews and the overwhelming majority of his reviews are very positive. On his Instagram I also appreciated that the after photos were "real" and not insanely filtered.
The procedures I did were the FaceologyLift with liposuction of the under chin area where I had some fat. There incisions from my sideburn area hidden in the hairline then on to the inside of my ear, in the crease of my lobe then up the back of the ears and then hidden in my lower hairline on the back of my head.
The procedure and recovery weren't that bad. The worst part for me was nausea for a few days due to the pain killers and IV sedation. I had drains in for two days because I had excess fluids on one side (usually the drains get taken out the next day). The swelling was really bad around day 4-5, I looked like handsome squidward. But by the time I got my stitches out a week after surgery I only really had some light yellow bruising on my neck and the residual swelling looked kind of good like I'd had fillers haha I actually missed it when it was finally gone. I drove myself to that appointment and that was fine even though you'll still have tightness at your incisions. The scabbing on the incisions was gone by the next follow up appointment at one month. So I'd say you need at least a week of serious downtime due to the stitches and swelling and pain killers (if you need them). No resuming regular exercise for 3 weeks. If you're a mom or have pets, what was hard for me was not being able to lift my toddler for a month.
I'm 7 weeks out now and have some tightness/numbness at the incisions but it continues to improve. For a while I had some occasional stinging along my neck area which is from nerves healing. Sometimes my ears feel a bit sore, like if you sleep on your ear with it bent. Nothing too bad.
Let me know if I forgot anything.

Thanks so much for your thorough response! Really appreciate it, and I will be adding Dr. Lee to my list of doctors to visit for a consultation.
